Cyclingnews.com announce that:
Ivan Basso has come out on top in the Final Overall ranking of the Giro d'Italia. Basso won stage 15, 16 and 17 on his way to victory, and got a half dozen top 10 stage finishes. His biggest rival was Vincenzo Nibali, a team-mate of his, who finished 1:52 seconds down on Basso. Besides Nibali there was really no competition for Basso, as the final podium spot in Verona went to Damiano Cunego who finished more than 8 minutes behind Basso.

Peter Velits claimed the KOM jersey and Cavendish claimed the Points jersey after utterly dominating the sprints. Cav finished with 227 points while Petacchi the runner-up finished with a meager looking 152 to Cav's 227. Francesco Masciarelli took top honours in the U25 classification while Liquigas also came home as the top team.

Philadelphia International Championships
Squad:
The stage was fairly hilly but we brought a sprinter just in case it went down to a sprint. David Boily and Henao are our designated leaders and we will work for them throughout the stage.
We pick things up with 50km left, and a break of 4 slowly being reeled in. At this point it looks like it will end up in either a mass sprint, or the favourites will attack and stay away to the finish. 30km now and we are awaiting the first move by the favourites with the break nearly being caught.
20km and still no sign of movement from the favourites. We slightly shift our focus to Van Heerden the teams sprinter. 10km still no moves and all the hills are behind us. The sprint begins and we don't get off to a great start. But CVH starts moving himself up.
It was not enough as CVH finishes 16th while Briggs takes the stage.

Yeah. I think the VH's are the only foreigners we will keep after this seaon. We just needed a bit of a boost, before some of our younger riders develop more. Plus Transfer season starts after Slovenia.

Tour de Slovenie
This is one of the teams objectives for the season. We are expecting a top 10 in the GC when everything is said and done. We think we have a very capable squad to acheive this goal, because we have brought our 3 best climbers to the race, David Boily, Sergio Henao and Flavio De Luna, who has improved his climbing ability over the course of the season. But with the race having more flat stages, than MTT finishes, we have also brought a very strong sprinter in Martin Gilbert.

Sometimes I just want to bash my head on a wall.
Two days ago I played 2 stages with no problems from the disk check error thing, but of course that didn't last, I've got the problems again, and only now finished stage 1,2 after a whole Fing week of trying to play the stages. Expect to have the reports by next weekend because the Fing error shows up for replays too, and I can never get past it. Its been 2 hours and still haven't played the replay. I have no clue why it doesn't work for me and does for everyone else after changing the letter of their drive. Still the first two stages are very exciting.

Tour de Slovenie Stage 1:
The stage doesn't really shout anything to me. I think it will be very wide open, because a break could stay away, or the sprinters could fight for the win, or a punchuer could attack on the final hill and solo to the finish.
it took quite a while before the break could be formed because everyone wanted to be in it, for the first stage. Eventually these 4 made it away. (From left to right: , Renev Wilmann, Joseph, and Agarkov)
Over the final hill Wilmann gapped the rest of his breakaway group and Wilmann was alone, with 15km left.
Now Wilmann is inside the last 1.5km but the peloton is right behind him.
Wilmann holds on for the victory, even though it was by a thread. Everyone was given the same time.

Tour de Slovenie Stage 2:
Today looks like a sprinters stage, but it is again lumpy like yesterdays stage.
The BOTD. Lots of riders got in it today including De Luna. The peloton seemed reluctant to chase them back for most of the stage even though there was well over 10 riders.
De Luna took the KOM points here. This mountain summit had the most KOM points available on the day, but there was still one more.
Now a lot further into the stage, actually quite close to the finish, the BOTD can look over their shoulders and see the peloton in the horizon. This spells the end for the BOTD.
The sprint starts and David Boily is up there with the best. He actually looks to be passing the others, as the round the final bend.
But out of nowhere Ian Wilkinson, passes the rest, and wins the stage in one of the greatest sprints I've ever seen. He just shot out of a rocket and passed everyone in the final 500m. Here's us following him through the sprint:

Now here he is, on the final corner. Notice the riders in the front. You'll recognize this from one of my above pics, but this one is from Wilkinsons point of view. This is about 900m's out.
