I can't find the detailed route for that edition but I have found all the mountain passes so I will try to make it as similar as posible but maybe in some cases I could mistake the side where they went up or down.
Stage 2 is quite easy I think because there is a lot of mountain passes and the route is quite defined.

Brilliant, it doesn't matter if the route is not 100%, as long as the important climbs are in there. |

Last 3 stages GPX are done. Not exactly the same kms, but quite similar, because some new roads have been added in these 12 years and tracks4bikers choose the new routes and I don't know exactly wich road they use (sometimes I suppose they even use the highways).
This night I will try to make stages 2 and 3, because I have to use Openrunner because are longer than 200 kms.
I am waiting to get some more information about Stage 1, with only two mountain passes in the last kms and many kms with no defined route.
I will also try to make another route on my own for another variant if you or anyone want to use it. 6 stages, last ITT and one uphill finish, and the other 4 ending in 3 of the main cities of Basque Country (Bilbao, San Sebastian and Vitoria) and the other ending in some place of Navarra. |

Ready stage 1 from my own route for Vuelta al Pais Vasco.
Starting from Zarautz and ending at San Sebastian, with last kms quite similar to Clasica de San Sebastian. Six major climbs:
Urraki (1st)
Alkiza (3rd)
Andazarrate (2nd)
Ventas de Orio - Igeldo (2nd)
Jaizkibel (1st)
Erlaitz (1st)

Vuelta al Pais Vasco 98 is nearly done. Stages 2 to 6 complete. Still waiting to get some info about stage 1. I think is a circuit stage of 108 kms with 2 mountain passes, but I don´t know exactly the order. |

I'm a big fan of this race so I'm glad you choose to make a variant of it. |

All the GPX for 98 edition are done. Not exactly, but quite similar. Later I will upload a pack with the GPXs, and the maps.
Still waiting to finish my own route. 3 stages done.
EDIT: Pack is ready and uploaded. Inside, apart from the 6 GPX files, you find a Map for Stage 2 and a Readme with all the Info of the race and the links to Tracks4bikers to understand the circuits.

Not at all. If you need other routes in Spain (specially in the North) I will be very glad to help you.
Probably this night I will finish the other variant. I will also upload it if you or anyone want to make it. 5 stages are ready and only the last, with the arrival in Bilbao in front of Guggenheim Museum, is not done.
1. Zarautz - San Sebastian (last kms quite similar to the Classic).
2. Irun - Puente la Reina (hilly but with no really difficult climbs).
3. Estella - Vitoria-Gasteiz (from the city of GP Indurain to the capital city of the Basque Country. Not really difficult.
4. Vitoria-Gasteiz - Monte Argalario (uphill finish with very hard last 50 kms).
5. Barakaldo ITT (Timetrial with a short and hard climb in the last part).
6. Bilbao - Bilbao (last chance to win the Vuelta with a medium mountain stage with terrain for attacks. Arrival in front of Guggenheim Museum).

After this I have some other project I need to help with, but maybe at a later point. Why don't you try do make stages yourself? With your knowledge of this area, it would be great if you started making stages. |

I've tried with some stages but I'm not enough skilled with these stages full of climbs and circuits. Specially circuits, I can´t deal with them.

Can anyone write the description file for the variant when I'm done with the stages? |

1998 Vuelta a Pais Vasco by Cremalex and Kissaha
Notes: Don't expect a ton of connecting roads or extremely realistic scenery, but the route is mostly correct. I had to do some changes due to the limitations of the editor. And some of those climbs is actually that choppy IRL, so not so much I can do about that.
