What a fail by Garmin that was. Why didn't they try for Hunter or Dean.

Hushovd was not boxed. He was at line with Farrar and Hagen, he had the opportunity to sprint, he tried, but couldn't make it.

Lol. Hushovd chose Farrars wheel instead of Cavendish wheel, which costed him a top two placement. When Hushovd tried to go for Cavs wheel, Farrar jumped in infront of him, and made him loose the theird place. A shame.

give up ..you guys have Hagen who is already much better sprinter then Hushovd..who has no speed anymore. Roubaix..some classics (Boonen style)..there is blenty to do for Thor. Just support Hagen..he is best sprinter you got.

Edit: Still nothing in youtube.. wrong decision ASO. You just giving away a hugh publicity

Garmin were going for Dean, not Farrar

Vaughters

To clarify, the plan was for Julian today. Tyler was the 'sweeper'..however, we got caught on the front 300m too early, so Tyler tried.

Great to see him win today. He needed that, I think it'll have helped him gain confidence.

Also great to see a guy cry on the podium to show how much he wanted it.

Nice to see that the Top4 today were all U25. This will be the next generation after Zabel, Petacchi, McEwen, Hushovd...
Like to see more duels between these guys in the next 10 years Grin

All 4 have been projected to win a green jersey in their career so yes it will be good. If Rojas and Ciolek could get trains it would be even better.

I hope Rojas gets a big win soon. Out of the top 4, he's the most underrated, and is better on the climbs than any of them. I hope he becomes the new Freire.

I just wish the same thing, it would be so nice for him, a great revenge for him on life, and the wins his brother would probably have had too... I think he could seriously think about a sprinter jersey once.

I've always thought the same but then I suggest that opinion and it gets fatally rejected. Glad im not the only one.

Without wanting to sound like a wiseass, I believe people think that mostly because at Rojas' age Freire was a double world champion.

Personally, here's how I see it. Some riders develop early, others late. Petacchi for example is a sprinter who developed very late. Cavendish very early.

Rojas' hope to be "the new Freire" would be to be a late developer......except he's not. He's the earliest developer you can find. He was amazing as a youth........and then it stopped.

He's 25 and he's the same rider he was at 19. So, he's unlikely to get any better.

At 19 he was so amazingly good for a 19 year old that he turned pro at that age with a huge team. Who does that??

But you can never, ever, EVER say a rider is going to be X good or Y good, because a very large percentage never get any better, or even regress.

Which is why, for example, I reserved judgement on Andy Schleck until he showed how good he was in his first Tour. Despite his stellar youth results and his debut Giro.

Because everyone was saying Rojas was a budding superstar.....and Popovych was the new Merckx. And Valentino China was a GOD.

Didn't quite turn out that way, did it? Pfft

It does seem that way. But I think he will improve slightly. Maybe not his sprinting but maybe climbing or TTing in the next 3 years. I hope anyway.

He's not that bad on cobbles anyway (look at his 3rd stage classification), so he could think about G-W (already two top10). Lets hope together Valverde321 Wink

I am of course pleased to see Cavendish bounce back to take the win Smile

Garmin did a great lead out for Cavendish today. A lot of credit has to go to Renshaw, but Columbia would have struggled without Garmin. Hansen's early withdrawal really compounded the loss of Hincapie - plus the increased GC aspirations for Rogers/Martin.

Dean was the weak link in the Garmin chain really - had it been Dean leading Hunter, they may have done better.

Meanwhile Petacchi highlights that while he is often the man to beat, he also had a tendency to be poorly positioned at times - something that never seems to be the case for Cavendish, again thanks to Renshaw.

according to this :https://forum.team-saxobank.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3335

China was riding for Saeco in 1998+1999+2000. In 2001 he went back to Elite 2 level riding for "GS Garda Calze-Resine Ragnoli" team, and participated among others in the Giro de Italia 2001 for U26 riders. But he had a disappointing time and decided to retire in September 2001. The Italian Elite 2 team Sanpelegrino-Bottoli tried to convince him to continue on their team in 2002, but I think he in fact retired in 2001, only 22 years old.

Uhm I've seen Cavendish being badly placed tons of times before he had his HTC train

it didn't matter in those days becaus he could simply sprint from place 7 to 1. (like Petacchi often did by the way)

ABridgeTooFar
Garmin sucked big time. Dean went on the wrong side of Hunter and Farrar went on the wrong side of Dean. Renshaw was a beast: elbowing Thor on the run in and take the correct line around hunter/dean. Amazing job.

And on Robbie McEwen's twitter he told us why he is not winning every stage Wink : "Just found out i'm probably allergic to tetanus meds. They gave me a shot after crash - no wonder I feel so shit"

But still good on him for making the top 10 again.
