Contador will probably have this finished by stage 10 again

I would think that the weaknesses he showed on the climbs at Dauphine Libere would have the entire field chomping at Contador's bit this year. No way he takes this down when you got SAXO and Radio Shack both gunning for the maillot jaune and perhaps the most competitive TDF field since lance v ullrich
Shock

Weakness? For Mid June he was extremely strong. Name one guy who was in great form at the Dauphiné and didn't suffer because of it at the Tour?

The answer is none.

Radioshack? They have no one. Leipheimer might have a chance if there were two 50+km TTs. Maybe.

The only one who can actually challenge Contador is Andy Schleck, and that's only because by not peaking for the classics he's far better rested than Contador.

And he's still only got an outside chance. He needs to have luck on his side in stage 4 and win a lot of time there.

That was in no way competitive. it's the most competitive field since the mid 90s.

Yeah like last years Dauphine where Contador lost to Valverde & Evans, but destroyed everybody in the Tour...Dauphine & Suisse is not so important than people think...It only gives a hint about their current form

I just don't understand. How could this possibly happen. Never in a million years did I think this could possibly happen. I'm shocked.

I have a question. In the Tour, what jersey is Evans going to wear? The world champion jersey or the leader in UCI rankings one?

Thanks

Wilier
Nibali won't ride the Tour, which is a shame, but understandable.

Tried to drop Janez 9 times on the climb up DHuez and had no gas. I will concede that Pistolero always shows up in his top form for the tour, but there is a reason why so few riders repeat in Paris.

The shack wont win the thing, but you are kidding yourself if you think that Lance isnt going to at least try to win the Tour. He wouldnt still be racing if he didnt think he had a chance. BTW it has pretty much been the worst kept secret in cycling that Lance would rather see Contador lose, than any of his teammates win the Tour.

The only one who can actually challenge Contador is Andy Schleck, and that's only because by not peaking for the classics he's far better rested than Contador.

And he's still only got an outside chance. He needs to have luck on his side in stage 4 and win a lot of time there.

Again, conceded that Andy is still the closest shot to win, but the field is more spread out this year, and I believe that Contador will be facing attacks by 2-3 teams every day in the mountains. Even if the Schlecks or the Shacks dont win overall, this race is a war of attrition and Contador has very few allies on his side this year. My overall point was not that Contador isnt the best rider on the course, or that he wont win the TDF, just that he will be facing a very deep field of riders who are all looking to unseat the reigning champion

Competitive doesn't mean closest, it means the largest amount of contenders.

Competitiveness is about more than just top 2. It's about having many riders who are capable of winning.

My favorite part of that is that two years ago, ESPN ran a brilliant article on Garmin the day before the Tour. But as soon as Lance shows up, they go back to being idiot fanboys.

It's kind of like this:

And yes, I am comparing Lance to a cat.

Which is interesting, given how much the doesn't-know-much-about-cycling casual fan thinks he's a nice guy or even cuddly.

Does any of you think that Thor Hushovd will win the green jersey this year as well?

Ezio
Why not? He's capable of it, no doubt. Though he's not the fastest sprinter, so he'll have to do som stunts in the mountains like last year to win it again.
