Settimana Coppi e Bartali Stage 4
Well today is the penultimate stage of the race. If I'm going to gain bac ksome time on the other favourites it'll be today. It will be a long and hard day but I know that tommorow is a flat stage where I can recuperate.
Heres todays BOTD. No one special in it.
On the final climb of the day Garzeli and Ricco made an attack.
I had to counter the move of Garzeli and Ricco. Then I went past them after a brilliant move. Then Albasini and Bellioti made an attack amd I tried to counter that move but it was too much. I was in the second group all alone.
Then with 5km to go, Sella and Ricco make a move t oget up to the leaders; Albasini and Bellioti.
It was a hard struggle but I eventually caught up to Sella and Ricco and even Albasini and Bellioti. We formed a pretty large group for a mountain stage. With 1 km to go Garzeli and Ricco were at the front of the group so they had the best chance.
And so Garzeli outsprints Ricco to take the win. The biggest surprise on this stage was the fact that Contador was nowhere to be seen.

Tour of Romandie
This years version brings us some good mountains and 2 TT's. One of which is a mountain TT stage which should be very interesting. Garmin- Transitions have brought a strong squad to this race because the sponsors are not to happy with our performnces so far this season. Our main goal for this race is to use it as a warm-up for the Giro as some of the riders on our team have been choosen to ride the Giro d'Italia. Heres our squad for the race:
-Cameron Meyer
-Christian Vande Velde
-Travis Meyer
-Ryder Hesjedal
-Daniel Martin
-Michel Kreder
-Jack Bobridge
-Peter Stetina
Hey its Ryder. The team directors told me that my form was too good so I got most of the last month off from racing. I still had many training camps and I worked very hard. This is my first race in a while but I will be a helper for "CV". I love working for him so it should be fun. Tommorow is a TT but its short so no one should loose much time to any ofe the other favourites. I'm really excited to have been picked for the Giro. Its one of my favourite races next to the Tour, Vuelta and hilly classics. I wasn't allowed to race any of the hilly monuments this year but next year I feel I might have a great shot at one of those.

Tour de Romandie Stage 1 TT
Its a short TT but we can still loose some time if you have a bad ride.
Ruben Plaza finished a plus 10 on the stage winner
Alejandro Valverde was the next favourite out of the gate. HE did pretty well finishing just under 20 seconds off the leader.
Travis Meyer had a surprisingly good ride finishing 4th at the time and in the end he got +19.
Peter Sagan the great hope. He rode pretty well but not too good. +42
Thomas Lovkvist one of the favourites for the GC. +15
Jack Bobridge. He rode well today.
Levi always rides a good TT. Today was no exception. He sets the current itme to beat at 9:15
Roman Kreuziger hada good ride. The GC leadership on Liquigas might be split between Kreuziger and Sagan, if Sagan rides well but Kreuziger should be the clear cut leader so dont get your hopes up.
Ignatas Konovalovas the guy who won the 21st stage of the Giro last year is getting ready for a repeat of last year.
I was riding well and was alomost on pace with Levi's time. But in the end I died off and fell to 20th place with a +20.
Alberto Contador was the last rider out of the blocks and everyoe knows he can ride a good TT. He had the fastest Time check and then went over the climb with 1.4km to the line. But Contador wavered and Levi ends up with the best time.

tour de Romandie Stage 2
A break got away and got a lead of 7 minutes but they were brought back to 1 minute with 10km's to the finish. I worked really hard all day and it was a TOUGH day.
Levi Leipheimer attacked so "CV" went after him. My work was done now so I just cruised to the finish from here on end. Vande Velde made it to the leaders group with every team leader. Really no team leader was missing but they were there with the BOTD riders.
Well Levi outsprints everyone. HE looks like a big competitor to "CV". After the race the Media had mis-interpreted a conversation with Christian and Levi but I know that they were just talking 'cause they are good freinds of the road. I still joke around with "CV" about the Olympic Mens Hockey Gold Medal game but its just for fun.

Tour de Romandie Stage 4 TT
Its going to be a tough day. This TT suits CV though so maybe he can do well.
I was the first significant rider out of the gates. I already had the time check record for today and then I beat the best time by over 30 seconds.
Gutierrez came along and beat my time by 20 seconds I think. He went very fast today.
Contador was the favourite to win the stage but he actually had a pretty bad time. +24
Vande Velde went and went fast. HE beat my time chck time and almost caught the rider in front of him. When he went across the line we all cheered. HE had the best time.
Now the only rider left to go and he went very fast. but in the end he tied "CV" but "CV" still got the win.

Tour de Romandie Stage 5
Today is the most critical stage of the entire race. JV has told me that I have to stay with Christian as long as I can to help him keep energy. A break away group made it out to about 6 minutes on the peloton but they were caught on the 2nd last climb.
#63 is me and #61 is Christian. I was helping him as much as I could which really drained me. Luckily there wasn't too much further left in the stage.
I noticed the Radioshack's riders who were pulling hard at the front were weakening so I told Christian that this would be an oportune moment to attack. Leipheimer had to follow Christian as he was 2nd in the GC and roughly a minute down in time.
After breaking away from a group including, Valverde, Leipheimer and Kreuziger Vande Velde managed to get a gap and even lengthened that gap in the sprint. This was a perfect win for Garmin and hope to see similar results in Italy.

Tour de Romandie Stage 6 Final
Okay well I dont want to put the focus on me because this is about me but today if Vande Velde gets jsut 9 seconds he wins the Tour de Romandie which would be great for sponsors.
Today Dan Martin slipped into the break. It was a tactical move so that RadioShack would have to work to bring the break back. Unfortuneately Caisse did 90% of the work.
With 9 kms to go all the favourites attacked including Vande Velde. Well actualy that was a lie almost all the favourites attacked, Contador stayed behind. Resting for the Giro perhaps?
Now with 4km to the finish. Novoa had a 40 second lead on the rest of the breakaway riders and over 3 minutes on the GC contenders.
Novoa wins. But doesn't celebrate. Probably too tired after that long stage.
The BOTD riders have already come in and now the GC contenders. That yellow jersey is Leipheimer. Apparently Vande Velde had a 17 second gap on him. Not saying thats a bad thing because that means Christian wins the Race but that doesn't look like 17 seconds at all.

After taking a quick look at the list I came up with some thoughts on some of the GC Contenders and the Sprinters.
Main Rivals For Christian Vande Velde
Bradley Wiggins- Sky. This guy has the team to back him up and is one of the better climbers in the race. He's also a great TimeTrialist which doesn't help things for us.
Ivan Basso- Liquigas He's also surrounded by a great squad including Vincenzo Nibali. Basso is a little better climber than Wiggins but he lacks the TT skill of Wiggins.
Damiano Cunego- LampreThis guy has won the race before and knows how hard it is to win a Grand Tour. He's not got a great squad but he can still ride well if on form.
Andreas Kloden- RadioShack He has arguably the best team in terms on domestiques so a top 3 is definately possible for this German.
Other notables
Stefano Garzeli
Kim Kirchen
Jose Rujano
Main Rivals for Farrar in the Sprint
Daniele Bennati- Liquigas This is the race he has been looking forward to his whole year so I don't think he's gonna let the wins slip by him here. He's got some good lead-out men but the only question is if his team is willing to work for him and Basso
Alessandro Petacchi- Lampre This guy loves the Giro. He has always been fairly good at this race so he's definatly a contendor for the sprint jersey.
Robbie McEwen- KatushaHe's definatly a capable sprinter its just the small problem of getting over all the hills and climbs on the flatter stages.
Allan Davis-AstanaSeeing as there's no GC rider on Astana's sqaud the teams focus should be on Davis. He's also better on the hills than most other sprinters.
Andre GreipelThis guy is the strongest sprinter in the field for sure. Plus half the the HTC Sprint Train is here so he is the main favourite. We will have to use a variety of tactics if we are to beat this "unbeatable" train.
Other Notables
Koldo Fernandez
Sebastien Chavanel
Manuel Cardoso
Robert Forster
Ben Swift
My Goals for the Giro
My goal is to get a top 50 in the GC and to of course work my hardest for Christian. I like working for him so I'm totaly fine with the role I have been given for this years version of the Giro. Maybe if I'm lucky I could get a stage win but thats doubtful.

Usually the Giro is pretty boring to read about in 2010 stories, because it's always the same startlist. Luckily, you have some slight changes from what's normal, with Klöden instead of Popovych. As Klöden is one of my favourite riders, I'll cheer for him
Vandevelde should be able to achieve something big as well, and maybe a stage win for Ryder?
And what's the meaning of the name of the story? I don't get the "bacon and maple syrup" thing |

Well thats good to hear that its a good startlist.
I hope Ryder can get a win but it will be hard. And hopefully Kloden can get a win as long as Vande Velde finishes in the same group.
Okay the story behind the bacon and maple syrup thing is that they are Canadian foods. Like if you order pizza and ask for a eg, Hawiian pizza you get pineapples and ham (atleast here) so when you order a canadian pizza you usually get ham, Bacon etc. on the pizza. And the maple syrup is probably Canada's most famous food (atleast imo). I wanted to have a "Canadian" title.
