Funny you mention the New York Red Bulls.
Thierry Henry leaves Barcelona and signs for...the New York Red Bulls. |

Liverpool have signed Joe Cole on a four-year deal, subject to a medical. |

Man City sheikh becomes more and more crazy. Now he wants to sign Ibrahimovic for 600000€ a week! That`s about 31.000.000€ a year. That`s even more than NBA player get. Even after taxes that`s much much more than the next football player.
If he continues like this, the best players will sit on the bench in future. |

Real Madrid just sold Marcos Tebar to FC Girona (2nd Division).
Funny thing: transfer fee was 100€ ;D
So it was probably just for a new record. Next to the most expensive player they sold one of the cheapest now |

Lampard got injured, so did Terry I think (?). The national team could miss them for a fair while.

If this VdV deal goes through, then a) my greatest dream, of one of my favorite players on my favorite team, will happen, and b) Spurs have one of the most beastly midfields in the world.
Our central mids: Van der Vaart, Modric, Huddlestone, Palacios (and Jenas, but he sucks)
Our wings: Lennon, Bale, Kranjcar, Gio dos Santos, + Modric and VdV can push out wide.
Out front end might be injured, and our D might be as well (with unfortunately suspect backups) but don't tell me that isn't a Champions League quality midfield.
Also, look at this potential squad for an import Champs game.
Goal: Gomes
D: King, Dawson, Corluka, Gallas
M: VdV, Modric, Lennon, Bale
F: Crouch, Defoe
B: Cudinci, Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Dos Santos, Assou-Ekotto, Pav, (can't remember if UEFA has 6 or 8 subs), Palacios, Woodgate
And that doesn't even include Sandro, who could be really good.

That squad is. That starting lineup really isn't.
Throw that starting squad into a CL game and it better be at home against a crappy team, or it's going to be torn to shreds right through the center of midfield on defense, while offensively it'll leave the wingers isolated with little support and the ball won't get anywhere near the offensive midfield as it'll be light years away from the defense with no connecting link in between.

Thought the same thing, isn't Lennon a winger as Bale, and Modric and Van der Vaart isn't really holding midfielders either.
Crouch and Defoe would get a hard time scoring goals against organised teams aswell. |

If Spurs indeed get Van der Vaart i think Harry Redknapp should consider fielding a 4-5-1 with Bale/Lennon on the wings, Huddlestone or Palacios as a holding midfielder with VdV and Modric roaming free behind the lone striker. |

Unbelievable things are happening in the Romanian football, which shows that the 'communists times', when teams such as Steaua and Dinamo Bucharest had to win no matter what, are far from over.
2009 champions and 2010 runners-up, Unirea Urziceni, are apparently in financial collapse. In the last few days 7 players moved from Urziceni to Steaua, while the other players also left the team but with other destinations.
In return 18 players moved from Steaua's second team to Urziceni, which basically gives Steaua 2 teams in the first division. I think everyone knows who is going to win the games between those two teams...

I agree completely, but Redknapp (and this is the one strike I have against him) seems committed to the 4-2-2. |

I am sure you meant 4-4-2 But yeah, he sure is. And he loves the Defoe/Crouch partnership. But i have my hopes that he didnt bring VdV in just to be in direct competition with Modric. Spurs will be a better side with those two on the pitch together. |

Yeah Tottenham looks like a really strong team this year. VDV is one of my favourite players, so I will follow Tottenham closely this year. |

That happens in Spain too, so I'd say it has nothing to do with 'communist times'. Madrid and Barça can spend 4 times more than their closer rivals (Valencia or Sevilla), despite their debts sky-rocketing to ~900,000,000 euros. I dream with their disappearance, but it'll never, ever happen. Not in Spain. |

Probabily Unirea will not play and Steaua will win 3-0.Why Steaua's players lose their energy?
