Tour de France - Stage 18
img296.imageshack.us/img296/2250/pcm0074qr7.jpg

A hilly stage today, and probably our last chance to make a dent in the GC. The day after tomorrow is a 50km ITT, and we'll definately lose some time there. 4th is ours, no doubt about it. But we're so close to the podiium we can taste it!

A few scattered breaks went out today. Astarloza made an attempt but was reeled in. With 120km to go they hold a large gap.
img530.imageshack.us/img530/6354/pcm0060fb0.jpg

Coming up on the 2nd climb, CSC, Columbia and Lotto have worked the peleton to within striking distance of the breakaways.
img300.imageshack.us/img300/1226/pcm0062wo2.jpg

And we're onto the climb. 32km to go and it's more or less all square. Sanchez awaits his moment. We'll need to get a little closer to the top with all the strong riders still up front.
img526.imageshack.us/img526/5844/pcm0064xm4.jpg

But today we don't get to control the events as Evans goes first. Noone responds and Sanchez eats his gel and watches the others.
img300.imageshack.us/img300/7963/pcm0065zw6.jpg

3km to the top Leipheimer has attacked. Sanchez counters! Comes up a little short and is forced to work his way up. Menchov is not here!
img526.imageshack.us/img526/6854/pcm0066mg2.jpg

We're over the top and Evans is alone in front, with Sanchez are Leipheimer, Contador, Schleck, Kreuziger and Kirchen. Menchov is caught behind!
img291.imageshack.us/img291/6727/pcm0067ua6.jpg

11,7 to go, more riders join the group but still, no Menchov! He'll lose time!
img296.imageshack.us/img296/8487/pcm0069io0.jpg

5,5km to go. Everyone is lining up for the sprint. Evans has a small advantage at the moment. Sanchez is suffering now!
img300.imageshack.us/img300/8866/pcm0070aw7.jpg

600m to go and it's looking like Kirchen in front of Schleck! Noone has very much strength left and everyone is just keeping their place.
img300.imageshack.us/img300/9353/pcm0072kr5.jpg

Kim Kirchen takes it! Frank Schleck is 2nd and Cadel Evans is 3rd! Menchov is in a group behind and ends up losing a good minute. 4 seconds seperate him from Levi Leipheimer with Leipheimer in front. And another 27 seconds after is Sanchez.. so close...

How much did we lose in the crash back in the first stages? Frown
Anyways, no more storyupdates for today guys. I'll finish up the tour tomorrow with a flat stage, the ITT and then we roll into Paris Smile

Looks like you're destined to finish 4th, which I must say is a great accomplishment with Sammy SanchezSmile

It will definately do, i think Sanchez peaking a bit late when the other may have had dropping form has done it nicely. I definately struggled more early on than in the end of the race. Now why isn't Sammy the greatest TT'er in the world Smile

But i'm happy about 4th, 4(i think) stagewins and the pointsjersey Smile

I've been contemplating something. About the whole transfersituation.
Since our budget is very limited, and the targets out there are at best mediocre(if we stay all basque) Another solution could be in the cards.

What i could do is keep to signing Basque talent(allready in the works) and instead of trying to sign a GT rider, i could award my captain or captains with a small boost in the important stats. So as to get them closer to the standard of the competition. Like Sammy doing so well in the tour could warrant him an extra 2 or 3 points that we can distribute as we like. Same with Haimar if he does well in t he Vuelta. Of course, depending on their performances and without overdoing it. How would you guys feel about a solution like that?

i think 2 points could do the trick. and maybe a rule that max one point stat boost in an area. or perhaps put the points where he did good in the places he's done well? like good training awards well or something. but if you do that you should stay all basque!

That's the idea. I was thinking, in Sammy's Case to give him 2 or 3 points to distribute. With a max of adding 2 to any one skill.

It'd be less for Mikel, maybe just 1 bonuspoint.

It's a solution anyways.

helGn
i think its fair. altho if you get a hugh budget next year then you might think about removing some of that money since you gave your riders the statboost

Will adjust if it gets so much better. But i doubt it Smile

I'm not a big fan of alternating stats. So I'm against it. I love your struggle for a top 5 spot. You are achieving your sponsor goals and winning stages, so don't be to hasty in wanting to win a GT. With the struggle you're having winning a stage like the Alpe d'Huez, becomes much more exciting for all of us. Which it should be.

And you will be given a bigger transfer budget in October (at least that is normally the case in PCM '07), which should allow you to contract a nice talent.
Aren't there any good transfer free riders??

And how big is the talent you scouted? With the rate this story is going they can be top contenders in a few months. Wink

Imo, its a bad idea to start editing the stats of your riders to make them better - if you wanted to win the tour, you should have picked a different team.

Your performances so far have been impressive - without the crash you would probably be lying 2nd overall. Dont ruin it.

Hmm, i actually agree with you guys. The struggle is what makes it fun. I can hope that Igor Anton develops wildly in the coming months istead. You're right, stats is a bad idea.

helGn
that is acually a good point SN, but i i wouldnt hold it against mads if he chooses to alter stats or maybe switching team?
i think its better that he enjoys the game and keeps playing than getting bored with it and stops, i want a new DFL lenght game Wink

YtimK
didn't post once in this thread for now but I have to say that I absolutely love this story! Mads keep the good work up without altering the stats as already mentioned struggling for top 5 in GC and winning mythic stages with Sanchez is way cooler..

Also, if you hadn't had such bad luck on the second stage of the tour, you would likely been on the podium i Paris. That is an accomplishment with Sammy IMO.
