Raphael has really become consistent but he unfortunately still lacks what it takes to win, but I'm sure he will get there in the future |

Superprestige Zonhoven
Merely days after Julien Alaphilippe claimed his right to be called “Hottest talent in Cyclo-Cross”, Dutch’s Jack of All Trades, Mathieu Van der Poel, striked back by winning Zonhoven in impressive manner. The young Dutch, once an hopeful aspirant to replace Lars Van der Haar at the Rabobank CX Team, has now all eyes resting on him.
For myself, the race has been largely a chasing tail, as I have missed several decisive splits and came in only 10th. Better luck next time.

Superprestige Hamme-Zogge
… and the trend continues and is certainly kind to you, when you’re a young prospect, destined for great things. After Alaphilippe and Van der Poel, the third great contestant of the future became the present: Wout Van Aert won the sprint against his rivals Alaphilippe and Van der Poel and claimed his Pro victory in the highest class.
For me, the race was reduced to tactical games once we realized that we underestimated the boys for good. They are wildcards and none of us knew how to deal with them for now. So hungry for victories. I felt a bit jealous, but soon the pain of the clinging cold got the better of me. Focus on racing, I told myself. And so, I got hungry too. For results. But unfortunately, Pauwels & Co. overtook me on the sprint finish. I finished ahead of Mourey though, on a 10th place - again. Later I heard that Sven Nys crashed and might have got an injury in the last rounds of the route. Get well soon champ!

@Vali: Yeah, they are causing some real high waves. Just like in real *cough* ^^
@sutty: Needs to get more points though, 10th places ain't good enough if you want to finish Superprestige Clas. on the podium at the end of the season.

Superprestige Gavere
Something must have changed by now, because Van Aert and Van der Poel have dominated the next race. Meanwhile, Bart Aeronauts profits from their youthful ambition to animate the race as he snatches the Superprestige lead.
I did show some late effort into the race but wasn’t fully there. A bit down the weather and you’re already missing the times. Yet I managed to keep in the group of favourites, somehow hanging on and finishing ninth in the reduced sprint.

We're seeing a lot of things here we see in real life. Van Aert and Van Der Poel taking the cake
But I'm confident we'll see other things over time. An Italian rider, maybe |

It's nice seeing the younger riders getting some success recently, surely it must be Visconti's turn to win one soon
Will he still have the Italian jersey when he switches to being Austrian for the start of 2016 or does it only come into effect for the start of the road season and not for the January and February CX races?

Okay had the time to catch up a bit more now.
Not sure if he'll stay in the field much longer. Maybe he'll keep using it to keep his shape over the winter, but I can't see him doing full CX seasons anymore.
It seems he has more talent on the road, too, or at least it would appear so.
Curious how it'll play out. There's more to do and more to earn on the road, but I think his real passion lays within the field.
Or maybe he would return to the field when he is like 32 or 33 and retires from the road to come back full time to the field. Looking at 38 year old Sven Nys, it doesn't seem impossible at all. |

Thanks everybody, it's great to have some people follow the story after its return.
@Sammy: Since he won't be riding CX officially for a team in early 2016, he will ride on his own costs, paying staff etc. I think he'll just wear the Austrian jersey for the time being then.
@Ian Butler: Unfortunately, PCM isn't made perfectly for CX. I'd love to have more gameplay variety, right now it takes a bit of imagination too. This of course plays a role eventually in Rapha's perspective too. But I always look forward to the CX season and I don't think it'll go away anytime soon. It's a vital part of the story.
Plus, I really, really want to see Rapha in the CX World Championship jersey.

World Cup Koksijde
Sandy roads for Koksijede are always a special place to ride, especially in front of those crowds. It was a calm race with decent pace which split the peloton after some laps and only a group of 9 riders remained for the second half of the race, including Nys, World Champion Pauwels, Walsleben, Van der Poel and Van Aert. Aeronauts was up front at some point, then I attacked.
When I switched my back, I heard my dad tell me, that Vanthourenhout and Pauwels were chasing hard behind. Later then, Nys and Mourey distanced the pack. Many switches in the race were a result of this, but with me always ahead of them. Eventually, Mourey, Van der Haar, Meeusen and Walsleben had caused a big enough gap to get a great group dynamic going. I was lucky that some of them weren’t that willing to work together than others, they were still playing some games in the sandy road of Koksijde. This made it to a fight of survival in sand dunes. Fully knowing if I’d go too fast or too slow, I’d be soon caught. I was breathing heavy. Too heavy for my taste. Long solo effort for Cyclo-Cross standards. How many laps on my own? Probably 4.
They were coming real close at times. When I looked back, I hardly believed I was still up ahead. With the certainty that I’d fade, I went into the last lap. I had to switch my bike, although I hadn’t planned to. When I took the last turn, I still thought they’d catch me. Until there it was in front of me, and they were all behind me. My first World Cup victory!
I was happy but not too much time for celebrations. I wanted to get straight back into training, next week was Superprestige Gieten up on the calendar. The side of my first professional CX victory.

@Ian Butler: It was a great, special ride for Rapha.
@sutty: True, the World Cup is certainly within reach.
Superprestige Gieten
After my first World Cup victory, the circus went back to the side of my first CX victory in fact. Superprestige Gieten was a wonderful experience and race last year, so I was thrilled to see what I could do here, one year old, one year better.
But unfortunately it seems I havn’t learned much. After two attacks from the big bunch, I was missing the power to keep up in the last lap. I lost some places to guys like Meeusen and Wellens who kept riding up from behind. Sven Nys was following by second attack and I wished I could have hold his wheel over the cobblestones and bunnyhops, because Nys made a special comeback after some weaker races to win the race today. I didn’t hold up the Top 10 and got caught by Aeronauts soon at the line, finishing 11th.

Wow it seems i have missed an awesome victory, congrats on a great solo by Raphael
Apparently he is enjoying the world cup races more than the
superprestige ones, as he is still in the fight for the title there |
