On the topic of music festivals, i'm going to a 5 day festival that starts at the end of March. It has mainly older bands and musicians, but should be great. This year they have Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from Led Zepplin, Santana, Iggy and the Stooges, Dropkick Murphys, Paul Simon, Ben Harper (who plays 3 sets), Jimmy Cliff, The Cat Empire and Steve Miller band just to name a few

I haven't heard it. But from the sound of it, it's something I'll regret hearing/seeing, so I won't do an effort to catch up |

Only name I recognize out of that list is Kings of Leon. I guess that's what happens if you only listen to music from the 60s
If I could organize a perfect festival, I'd be (in no particular order):
The Doors, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Big Brother & The Holding Company (Janis Joplin), The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jefferson Airplane, Bruce Springsteen, The Velvet Underground and Neil Young. I still forgot some names, though
Count me in Ian, but invite also Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Cream, The Who, Clash, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Motorhead and many more.
I wonder if there is any existing high profile group (created after 1990) i can listen to, without feeling there is something wrong. Uhmm, maybe Queens of the Stone Age and Wolfmother. Also Eminem was decent artist, but not compareable with old Wu Tang and likes. And Foo Fighters or Muse have some nice songs, but still nothing like the good old times.

And i almost forgot Queen, the best pop band ever!!!
Edit: Also thanks fcancellara for reminding such great bands like Black Sabbath, Steppenwolf or magician man Bowie, his Heroes is one of the best songs ever.

Right, Queen, forgot about them!
Maybe Nazareth, though they're not quite as good as the others above, still worth listening too. Same goes for UFO, I guess
There's a local Belgian Band that's just bloody brilliant and reminds me of the 60s, but I can't think of any high profile group either... Like you said, Queens of the Stone Age come close. Muse has some excellent songs. And, of course, Deep Purple is still touring, so they're contemporary |

Try Wolfmother if you dont know them already (you probably know "Woman" single). Great retro style music, reminds me a bit of Black Sabbath, just not so dark and with some modern aspects.

In a few weeks the entire internet will agree with you.
How hard can it be?

Come on, man Don't be so reluctant. What's the worst that could happen? You may lose 30 seconds of your life, but you may also see something very funny

My 2nd favourite band behind Pearl Jam. I love their style of music and technique/the way they play, also have had a few opportunities to see them live, where they were amazing. I didn't know they were that big internationally though?

30 seconds are 30 seconds more than this crap deserves...
Edit: Sometimes i hope all this stupid people will one day post a video of their mass suicide and all who like it will do the same.

Contemporary stupidity hardly calls for a mass suicide, though
However, I'd rather spend all my combined 30 seconds from all internet hypes on some more Beatles-songs. |

I dont know how well-know they are, but they win some music awards i think. My friend told me about them, so i listened both their albums. The first one especially is great! Joker and the Thief and other songs, great.

Are you sure that it is contemporary? And that zillion of views of that gangnam crap is normal.

Well, I'm not in favor of eulogizing the past (who wouldn't miss LCD-tvs?), but it seems the world was at its best in the 60s. Well, not the world, but the free-thinking, hippy, loving generation who tried to make the world a wonderful place. Unfortunately they failed and now everything is more corporate than ever. (but this is for the difficult thread ) |

Unfortunately the 60s were so happy times only somewhere. In Czech Republic and Slovakia, the people were being killed and imprisoned because they did not believe USSS is producing concrete ships, or that they listened to foreign radio, or said what they think.

We are much better off now. Ok we have to deal with stuff like Beiber, but er can still enjoy all the classics.
Plus we have much better standard of living. We enjoy all the best bits of then as well as all the modern benefits

Very true. Though I'd give a lot just to see The Doors performing live, alongside Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix |
