With the Criterium International done, it's time to collect your Pais Vasco startlists. Remember, it's PCM11!

Sent mine, always nice to see a new race getting started. Wink

Thank you. The race will probably start af Catalunya is finished (to keep a bit of realism)

Cool, will send mine tomorrow. Some mountain stages and a time trial?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The Favourites

David Harmon: For me it's going to be Veenhof today. The finish is slightly rising, and his main opposition of Kittel will lack the full support of his team, due to Kloden in 1st.

Sean Kelly: Kittel has the pace, I back him to do it on his own if necessary.

Magnus Backstedt: Of course it'll be Kittel! Veenhof is Mr 2nd Place.

Catching Up...

164 rainy kilometres which should end in a bunch sprint. The stage was 3 categorised climbs early on and we may see teams trying to make it difficult here to split up the pack. However the final difficulty resides over 100km from completion, so most likely any dropped group will have time to get back.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0002_zpsa38894c8.jpg
Laurent Didier of IoQ set this morning alight with a blistering early attack. He was joined by Daniel Callegarin(Fastweb), and not far behind were a further trio of M.Gilbert(Barrys), Kwiatowski(Lunar) and Blel Kadri of Nintendo.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0003_zps8ebd7647.jpg
Didier left his jump to late on the days first climb, only managing second place behind Callegarin. With the the first of the 3 difficulties traversed, all favourites sat safely inside the peloton, enjoying a comfortable pace

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0004_zps485969ac.jpg
Blel Kadri secured himself the 500Euros availabe for first at the days opening sprint prime. The break had coalesced by this point, and had opened the lead to 2'06

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0005_zps437d24b4.jpg
At the days penultimate summit, Blel Kadri took his second prime victory. This time in the Kotm Contest, winning the Cat.3 Serrall Del Mig ahead of Callegarin and Kwiatowski

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0006_zpsf739a7e1.jpg
The Frenchman from wildcards Nintendo-Ambuja took victory once more on the days final climb. This time it was Kwiatowski in second, as the pelotons gap grew over 5minutes.

The last highlights we have of this morning show a controlled peloton, with SGL-Magix picking up the pace at the front. They've got all the impetus to chase today, with both the GC lead, and the stage favourite.

Live Coverage

Welcome back to Catalunya for Stage 2 which looks well set up for a sprint finish. You join us with just 35km remaining in todays stage, the breaks lead standing at 2'33. ITV, ING and SGL are all on the front of the peloton working to bring back the front group of 5 men, who've been out there since 12km into this mornings stage.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0009_zpsc9c9659a.jpg
With 23km remaining and their advantage all but gone, Didier, Callegarin and Kadri decide to attack once more, hoping they can pull out the advantage once more but in reality there chance of staying away is all but gone.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0010_zps9187eb53.jpg
Didier has dropped his opponents and gone solo with 20km to go. He holds a slender 1'20 over the peloton, but he clearly backs himself...

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0011_zpscbcc937f.jpg
14.6km... The catch is made. We'll get the much expected sprint finish, will any of the outsiders get the jump on the 2 big favourites?

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0012_zpsa4b5bab0.jpg
11km... The relay is still in full swing at the moment but just behind we see 3 trains beginning to form. On the left are SGL, though lacking in numbers, on the right a 3man ING train, whilst Napolitano has the central line in his ITV team.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0013_zps8416f8e1.jpg
7km... The pace is soaring in the front, and none of the trains are ready to come forward just yet. It will be a matter of timing this to perfection given all teams have such short trains.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0014_zps61743461.jpg
5km... Now we see the move. Hunter has found the back wheel of Kittel in the German team, whilst ING have the longest line. 3 leadout men for Johan Veenhof.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0015_zpsfae6b9ee.jpg
3km... Gadret is giving it everything and has managed to reduce Kittels train to just one remaining helper. Veenhof definitely holds the advantage at this point, does he have the speed?

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0016_zpse0829da8.jpg
1800m... ING make use of there extra man, deciding to launch the sprint with Leezer early. ITV are coming back on the inside line once more, but Veenhof has to be favourite now, perfect leadout from his team so far!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0017_zps38a21a40.jpg
1300m... All Obst can do for Kittel is to take him to the ING train, where Veenhof still refuses to launch. Tulips Jorgensen is in a sandwich between the favourites, whilst several others are coming off early sprints from behind.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0018_zps74afb663.jpg
800m... Veenhof launches! He's got a massive gap and Kittel looks slightly boxed. Surely no one can catch Mr 2nd place today!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0019_zps370196a7.jpg
Time to celebrate for Johan Veenhof. His team get it absolutely perfect this afternoon and he finally rewards ING with his first win of the season. Kittel claims second behind him, whilst its a 3-4 for Tulip with Jorgenson, and... Nicolas Roche!

Amazing sprint from Jonas. Really didn't expect a podium from him in this race Grin

And this really wasn't the day I expected Roche to get his first points either Shock

A short but potentially treacherous stage today. 134km containing both an mid-stage difficulty of the Coll de Estenalles(1), before the main difficulty of the day, The Monestir de Montserrat. The final summit is just 11km from the line, and the final 8 are downhill, so we should see a lightening finish between the GC men.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0004_zps7f98497a.jpg
With exactly 100km remaining a group of 5 men finally managed to gain a gap of over 1minute. The men in said group were; Matthias Frank(MCS), Christophe Kern(Lunar) Brice Feillu(Barrys), Bert De Clerq(Lierse) and Angél Cardoso(PGR)

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0005_zps9d07b0b8.jpg
Surprisingly the only man who already had KotM points, (Kern) was the only man not to contest this mornings first climbing prime. PGR's Cardoso was quickest on the Cat 2 ascent, ahead of De Clerq and Feillu.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0006_zpsa39ef866.jpg
One has to wonder what PGR aren't paying the Portugese Cardoso. Despite the prime only awarding 3 points he was desparate for the 1st place sprinting from 1500m! Clearly the 500Euros was of major importance!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0007_zpsf69915e8.jpg
Initially Kern was judged to have taken the victory on the days Cat 1 ascent mid-stage. However, the commissaires later decided that this was an Error, swinging in favour of De Clerq instead as we bring our catchup to a close.

Live Coverage..

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0008_zps47d9d2f7.jpg
We're sorry to interrupt your Nordic Skiing, but we've got updates in the Volta Catalunya, and lets face it, Cycling is much more interesting! We're starting live coverage 10km ahead of schedule due to the attack from Jakob Geissinger and Woet Poels on the descent of the Montserrat. We have 36km remaining in the stage, where Allianz are setting the pace and sit 2'20 behind the main breakaway.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0009_zps90ce15b8.jpg
TCS' L.L.Sánchez has spotted an opportunity on this long descent, attacking as the riders hit the 30 to go mark. A long attack worked on stage 1, clearly the riders are hoping the same will happen again today!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0010_zpsdd7e6ee7.jpg
The favourites have spotted that Kloden is isolated in the peloton and the main favourites are keen to put him under pressure. As they arrive at the intermediate sprint, a group of 3 sit 42" clear of the peloton. They are Sánchez.L(TCS), Mollema(ITV) and Sánchez.S(Allianz)

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0011_zps92dfddbd.jpg
23km... The breakaway still sit 1'07 ahead, but the group of favourites has now swelled to 5 men. The trio have been joined by Henao(CCC) and Geissinger(MCS) and now have 48" over a Caterham led peloton.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0012_zps90a91861.jpg
17km... More drama now as Van den Broeck and Cobo try to light it up. The groups are closing up again however, the peloton now just 28" behind the favourites.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0013_zps4cd453ba.jpg
15km... Kloden is being forced to work on the front of the shrinking peloton with 15 to the line. Out in front the break have been almost caught by the group of 5, they are chased by another 5; Cobo, Van den Broeck, Ruiter, Roche, Basso and Moreno.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0014_zps23900c83.jpg
14km... The groups have merged into a mass of 20 riders ahead of the peloton. Meanwhile the main group has seen 2 men come back for Kloden in the shape of Di Gregorio and Valjavec who seem to be shutting down an un-cooperative favourites select in front

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0015_zpsf408a97f.jpg
12km... 14 men are about to reach the summit of the climb, and the official gap to Group Kloden now stands at 3'23! Betancur managed to cross solo in order to defend his Maillot Blanc, and Menchov is steadily making his way forward as well.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0016_zps5fcc5bec.jpg
8km... Samuel Sanchez has come to the fore and is ripping up the group of favourites. He's reduced the group to just 8 riders, including Roche, Cobo, L.L.Sánchez, Ruiter, Mollema, Moreno and Geissinger. Just behind are 2 further riders, Betancur and Henao.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0018_zps53d6ddc4.jpg
5.5km... The Sánchez' are ripping it to pieces on the descent. Only Roche is able to follow, they have 3'31 to Kloden who has lost his jersey today, and 21" to the nearest favourites.

2300m... The trio still have 24" to the chasers Ruiter, Moreno, Geisinger, Cobo and Mollema. Betancur and Henao are at 1'00 and behind them come the remainder of the group in dribs and drabs across the road...

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0019_zpscc09b8ef.jpg
700m... Luis Léon is the first man to launch, quickly followed by Nicolas Roche. The irishman has to be considered favourite from here, given his sprint ability shown yesterday!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0020_zps4e8397ee.jpg
Allianz-BMW leaves it to late for a celebration, but comes flying past in the dying metres to claim him the stage. Moreno is in G2 23" behind, so will claim the leaders jersey today.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0021_zpscc12e96f.jpg
Eventually, 3'56 behind limps an exhausted Kloden. He lacked the team today, and as a result must wave goodbye to his leaders jersey.

I was checking this thread to see if there was a new report literally 5 minutes ago

Woohoo, Motorex didn't disappoint! Frank in the BOTD (we really are in more than 75% of the breakaways so far this season, I believe) and Geisinger was very strong and is now 7th in the GC!

It is really getting time for our first victory of the season, though.

We're sorry to interrupt your Nordic Skiing, but we've got updates in the Volta Catalunya, and lets face it, Cycling is much more interesting!

Loved this part Grin

A bit disappointed in Basso though, I realise today wasn't his thing, but I hope he'll do something besides following the main group at some point.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
