Zomegnan says the reason for Xacobeo's invitation is simple:
Without it, the Giro wouldn't be shown on spanish TV. Wait, what?

I guess all the favourites will stay together and Di Luca, who is first of them in the GC, will take the pink jersey.

GC:
1 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) LPR Brakes - Farnese Vini
2 Tyler Farrar (USA) Garmin - Slipstream
3 Michael Rogers (Aus) Team Columbia - Highroad
4 Thomas Lövkvist (Swe) Team Columbia - Highroad
5 Lance Armstrong (USA) Astana
6 Danilo Di Luca (Ita) LPR Brakes - Farnese Vini
7 Yaroslav Popovych (Ukr) Astana
8 Levi Leipheimer (USA) Astana
9 Andriy Grivko (Ukr) ISD
10 Francesco Gavazzi (Ita) Lampre - N.G.C.
To get the pink jersey, Di Luca would need to win the stage AND get a gap of 2 seconds. Not easy.
Also, they'd have to make sure no breaks make it, which means tiring out their riders. It also means a fast stage.

I think you all take the finish to easy. Is not everybody on EPO anymore. This "easy" slope is going to make a differences. |

In the "golden age of EPO" the time differences were huge. As a general rule, the more doped up riders are, the bigger the time gaps are, and the more frequently riders crack big time and lose many minutes.

I agree with Guido. Armstrong's motivation to get in pink must be enormous. I hope for Rogers, though. |

I call rubbish:
Alessandro Petacchi claimed he did not know Mark Cavendish had crashed and insisted it was right that the lead group did not wait for the pink jersey in today's third stage of the 2009 Giro d'Italia.
“I've just found out now that he crashed. I knew there was a crash and but didn't know who was in it,” Petacchi said.
“With 10km to go and finish like that, when the race is on and on a circuit, it's different to when five or six riders are away together, like the day Armstrong crashed in the Tour and Ullrich waited for him.”
“I'm sorry if something happened but I didn't see Mark on the last lap and thought he was struggling. I didn't see his team mates and thought they were helping him.”
I really don't see the problem. 10k from the finish you can't wait for anyone who is caught in a crash. Not even the leader. The tempo is too high, and the peloton too hectic. In such a case it was Cavendish' own fault, that he got caught up in a crash.

To be honest i think soler might pull off the stage win as he has lost some time already i they might let him get a gap. Could be quite interesting as if he is on form he will be hard to catch if he gets a gap. |

Indeed..10km. beore the sprint..you don't wait rivals (specialy on flat) ..has they made example how Armstrong waited Ullrich..this was 50-50.
1. he has 2 more climbs to take..he did not want to do this alone.
2. When Beloki passed him..he followed Beloki. Kevin Livingston helped Ullrich back there..
Beloki was bastard on this stage..he keep it going when Ullrich crashed..and at the climb when Ulle raised he's arm to get water and slowed down.. Beloki atacked again.

Today's finish :
6.4 %, max. 10 %, that's not so hard
Best place to attack is at km 9, after the 10% slope
