A Tale of Two
Ian Butler
@JuanMotr: I'm glad you're proud of Eric, I hope Jurgen is, too Wink

@glpsace: What can I say? Thank you so much for that very, very kind post Smile I have to agree with sutty68, your English is almost flawless! I hope I'll keep on entertaining you with this story, I'll certainly try my best! Thanks again, I'm very honored that you spend your first (and hopefully not last) post on my story, it's truly amazing! Thank you.

Stage 17

This is the queen stage of Tour De France 2013!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1701.jpg

Recognize this?

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1704.jpg

I was off to a decent start, but in the descend of the Aubisque, I took quite a fall!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1705.jpg

I was lucky that Van De Walle was there to wait for me and bring me back. He'll truly be missed upon his retirement in October, he's the greatest helper you can imagine.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1706.jpg

On the next two climbs, Tourmalet and Aspin, it was up to us to make the pace, but the team is tired. So after a while, it was just Vanendert, me, Jurgen and De Greef, who was regaining some energy inside the small peloton.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1708.jpg

Frank took most of the KoM points and is on his way to become the King of the Mountains.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1709.jpg

We need time on Contador, so we have to take some risks. What we did next was definitely a risk, as it put Jurgen out in the open without any help with still more than 15km to go! I launched him and he was off on his own on the Peyresourde.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1711.jpg
i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1712.jpg

I lost touch once again.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1713.jpg

But everyone has a weak moment, and we were very unfortunate that today was Jurgen's. Contador caught him and went on to win the stage.

That was such a shame for Jurgen, being beaten on the line by Contador Wink

To finish 15th after your earlier fall and then launching VDB's attack, you need a massive pat on the back Wink

Totally agrees...You're doing a great work for Jurgen

Ian Butler
Thanks both Smile
Eric's really learning about his potential in this TDF, with his enormously hard work. I think there's no doubt he'll return as a leader one day.
The final mountain stage coming up!

Le Tour De France - Stage 18

Eric Lombaerts

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1801.jpg

Today I had a bad start, still a bit shook up from the fall. The entire team worked hard again today, it was our final chance to get more time between Jurgen and the other ones!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1802.jpg

And then, on the final climb, Jurgen showed us all what one motivated Belgian cyclist and his bike really can do.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1803.jpg

I was unable to help today. However, I did get better near the end of the race, and I found myself riding faster and faster on the Peyresourde, maybe I could go to the front and help Jurgen by watching Contador in some way.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1804.jpg

I never got to Contador, but it appeared that Jurgen didn't need any help today. In my opinion it's pretty obvious: this is the strongest rider in the peloton at the moment, you cannot tamper with this man: Jurgen Van Den Broeck!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1805.jpg
i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1806.jpg

And then it was waiting for the time differences.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1807.jpg
i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdfstage1808.jpg

I did extremely well at the end and finish 7th!

Le Tour De France - Stage 20

Eric Lombaerts

I had two goals today:
1. Try and get into the top 10
2. Beat De Gendt!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf01.jpg

I was off.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf02.jpg

I was extremely happy to see Gesink riding in front of me, near the end I even caught him!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf06.jpg

Froome was incredible and beat the best time!

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf09.jpg

Jurgen rode a decent time trial, but was it enough to keep Froome at the distance?

Le Tour De France - Stage 21

This was an incredible stage. Take a look at this picture, I vote "best picture of the year". This team was unbelievable. Lotto-Belisol is the only team who finishes with 9 riders, who wins the Team Classification, the strongest team in Tour De France 2013! I'm proud to be a part of it.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf11.jpg

Goss won the prestigious sprint on the Champs-Elysée.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/tdf20.jpg

And those were my last meters in the Tour, I'm going to miss it.

Tour de France review will follow.

Combativity Award

Congratulations to Cameron Meyer, who wins the Overall Combativity Award!

Review

Well, we couldn't be happier. The entire team is real ecstatic, everyone came down, Stijn is here too. Jurgen achieved his main goal in his career, he won Tour De France. It's even more beautiful that it's the 100th edition of it. More than 35 years, after Van Impe in 1976, but finally a Belgian Tour winner!

He's the first to admit ho couldn't have done it without the team. I'm very glad to hear that. And, of course, my top 10 place is extremely beautiful, I would have signed for that in advance! This Young Jersey is one to be very proud of. I believe I can come back here one day to battle for the win myself, I really learned much these past few weeks. Actually, now that I have had some time to think about it, there wasn't a day that I didn't wear a jersey, I was always in white and even a day in yellow!

And so we say goodbye to this adventure. We don't know what's the plan for next year yet. I heard Jurgen say he might want to try and win the Giro and the Vuelta as well, so he has all three GC's on his palmares. But it could well be that he rides the Tour again next year.

Thanks to all of you who were with us during this beautiful tour, and Stijn will be blogging when the Eneco Tour starts, bye!

Great overall win. Congrats also to your top10. Well done.
3 Belgiums in the top10 here. You don`t see this very often I guess.

Also nice to see you in the Young jersey, even if there was not the highest competition.

Mattias Frank was the rider of the race! (no offense)
Great for Jurgen. Great for Eric. Great for Lotto.
Big congratulations!

@roturn: Thanks Smile No, but with all those TT kilometers, De Gendt was destined to be in top 10. Jurgen is extremely good in the climbs and Lombaerts was also lucky that there were so many TT kilometers Smile
Young Jersey was probably Eric's the minute the start list was official Smile

@TheManxMissile: Frank rode an excellent Tour, I agree! Thanks Smile
