Yep - the wind has changed. I'm most definitefly not racing clean.
Was Alpe D'Huez the last time Cunego was anywhere on a moumtain stage? |

The Vuelta is long, though, and a lot of people that were great today are going to blow up completely in a week or so.

Why is Basso om the front?
Move over for Piti's sake.
Because a fast rhythm is great for him and stop-start is awful for him.
Cunego will win
He's not racing Contador though.
He's racing Valverde. same thing.
Are you sure about that?
Basso at his absolute 'best' could just about match Armstrong. Contador is not Armstrong, and Valverde is nowhere near either of those two on a climb, imo. Courchevel and the early move on Fuentes, not withstanding. |

So when finally Cunego is able to come into a grand tour with a great shape, you come up with the conclusion he's doped?
He is no better than he was at the Amstel Gold Race 2008, or both the Giro di Lombardia 2007 and 2008. He just screwed up preparation for Tour 2008 and Giro 2009. That's all. |

What does any of that have anything at all to do with stop-start climbing vs. fast steady climbing?

Armstrong was the guy with the best acceleration on a mountain in recent years. Basso gave him a test a number of times. Therefore, Basso is more than capable of stop-start against Valverede.
If he rides on the front he uses the most energy. Basso shouldn't lead Valverde and Evans up a mountain in Spain, imo. In Italy, yes, In Spain, no. |

yep he looks like Sella for me today..
Looks like Sella.....
He only attacked with about 2.5km to go... not as if he was off the front all day holding off the entire dopped up giro field
Oh and thank you Guido.. i suppose you know the stick i've been given for being a fan

How recent are we going because Pantani 98 would give him a run for his money

Yes, he just rode away from the hole doped up Vuelta field.
Good luck to him though - rode like Di Luca a couple of years back. |
