Big congrats to Portugal, very deserved win, unlike some people claim. To win the title without worlds best player against home team, that is something!

"Ronaldo told me I would score the winning goal for the team" "He gave me this strength, this energy and it was vital"
Ronaldo made a difference every time Portugal had need him most. In the group game he got them further towards Hungary, made a difference in the penalty shootout, making a difference in the semifinals and in final he made a difference off the field. Ronaldo is the best football player both on the field and off the field.
Ronaldo also missed the penalty against Austria. Otherwise Portugal would've faced England in the 2nd round, France in the Quarter Final and Germany in the Semi-Final. What a strategic miss
(Kidding but what a stat!)
Ronaldo has a very good statistics on penalties.
Messi has a very bad statistics on penalties.
Sometimes is it post out, even for the best. It is not because he shoots 2 meters beside as Messi makes.
But it has no importance anyway, when he got them further towards Hungary.
*Holds up sarcasm board*
And where did I mention Messi? Luis Suarez is the best player in the world right now
*Holds up sarcasm board again*
I wanted to write another long post, but I don't think that this discussion will lead anywhere. One last try to make my position clear:
I respect Ronaldo a lot. His career, his achievements, his skill.
I value Messi higher because I prefer his playing style and I think it requires a more diverse set of skills than Ronaldo's does. (subjective!)
I value Messi higher because I think his positive impact on a team, overall, is bigger than Ronaldo's. I don't think he is good because Barca is good, I think Barca is that good because of Messi. I feel like that's not as much the case with Ronaldo and Real. (again, subjective!)
I understand if people see that differently. I can see that Messi's national team career may taints his overall career, although I don't see it that way.
Of course there's a Barca bias for me. I tried to put that aside, and the results of my thoughts are the same.
What a boring world it would be if everyone had the same opinions. I'll try to leave it at that for now

Ah, Avin my old friend. Guess I have to write one more post after all
I really, REALLY, tried to make clear that I can see Ronaldo's greatness. That I value Messi higher doesn't take a way from that.
Also, I specifically said "certain titles". That was the point (arguably not the only one I tried to make, I'll give you that ). Arberg started saying CR is the best of all time now that he has won the EC. I disagreed because I don't think that title has that much value.
If you want to compare with players who won Super Bowls, NBA championships, Stanley Cups, why not take the CL title as a measurement? Who lead his team to more of those?
As for Pepe, there's more to fairness than cards. I value a lot of players as sportsmen who received tons of cards.
When the team is not playing fantastic is Messi not helpful. Messi is a level below CR7, Maradona and Pele, until he has proven that he can help the team when it not plays fantastic.

You know what, maybe you're right. After all, I thought Austria was going to be the surprise team of the tournament, so what the hell do I know about football
I probably care way more about this then I should anyway, so hopefully this time I'll actually leave it at this:
I'm happy for everyone in Portugal, you deserved it this year and you deserve it historically as a nation that has spawned so many fantastic players. Congrats
