Criterium Hainleite – Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/CriteriumHainleite_zps411019e9.jpg

The first HWP race is coming up; the Criterium Hainleite. The race is 184 kilometres and it’ll have a local circuit at the end, where we’ll ride five laps. But, who are the race favourites, and which riders from Hot Wheels – Porsche will start? Do they have any chance? Let’s take a look!

These four riders are our favourites for the race. We think that they have the biggest chance to win the race, and of course we’ll see them in the final part of it.

Our first favourite is the Frenchman Alexandre Pichot. Pichot moved during the winter from Europcar to Rabobank Development Team. It was an interesting move. Pichot is someone who can ride over cobbles and he has a decent sprint for the finish. There aren’t many good sprinters here so he’s one of the better. He can also ride decent over hills and that will be useable as well. His 12th place in Le Samyn shows that he’s in decent shape. The weakest point from Pichot is probably his team. The cyclists are very young and they don’t have a lot of experience and they may be not strong enough. But Pichot has a lot of experience so maybe he doesn’t need his team a lot. And he’s very motivated to race here: “It’s really nice to start in this new race. The course looks great. I don’t ride many races in Germany but I’m really looking forward to this one.”

Spoiler
i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Preview/Pichot_zps01dc6bf2.jpg

Our second favourite is the, with all the respect, old Nico Eeckhout, also known as Jerommeke (who is from the Belgian comic strip Suske & Wiske, who are Spike & Susie in English). Eeckhout is a cyclist with a lot of experience. His main skills are cobbles and sprinting. He’s also a decent hilly rider. But besides his sprint he has another useable skill: his attack. So he has to choose between sprinting and attacking. Looking to the start field his sprint would be a more logical choice, but you’ll never know. His fourth place in the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen shows he’s in great shape. He is enthusiastic about the new race as well: “It’s a shame that many races in Germany disappeared. It’s good for the cycling here that there are new races on the calendar. It’ll be fun!”

Spoiler
i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Preview/Eeckhout_zps5a974529.jpg

Our third favourite is the Belgian Roy Sentjes. Sentjes is also a good cobbler but in comparison with Pichot and Eeckhout his sprint isn’t as good as theirs. That’ll be the weakest point from Sentjes. It seems logical that he’ll attack during the final part of the race. The local course gives enough chances for that. So Pichot and Eeckhout are warned for an attack. Sentjes isn’t very enthusiastic as his two main opponents: “It’s nice to start in a race with cobbles, but I’ll just ride him as any other cobbled race. Although the race is new it doesn’t mean something special to me. But of course I’m looking forward to race.”

Spoiler
i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Preview/Sentjes_zps6a19f055.jpg

The fourth and last favourite for the victory is Koen Barbé. His skills are comparable with Sentjes’: a good cobbler but he’s missing a final sprint. So we can expect an attack from him as well. He’s currently in a very good shape and he has had a good season so far. He won the first stage in the Tour Méditerranéen, and he recently finished fifth in Le Samyn and eighth in the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen. He’s looking forward to it as well: “I’m in a very good shape at the moment. I’m looking forward to race here.”

These are the main favourite in our opinion. Of course it’d be great if a cyclist from Hot Wheels – Porsche wins here. But who from Hot Wheels – Porsche will start here? This will be their squad:
181. I.Watson
182. E.Byrne
183. L.Freire
184. P.Garcia Sánchez
185. J.Heckel
186. J.Remuzgo
187. T.Rodriguez
188. V.Rogers

The main leader will be Ian Watson. He’s in great shape at the moment and he recently won the Volta ao Algarve. He was also very good in Langkawi. When it comes to a sprint he’ll be the man, but he can also attack. But Hot Wheels – Porsche has some other riders in great shape as well. How about Vincent Rogers, who finished 7th in the Tour de Langkawi. He could attack on a hill on the final course. The same applies for José Remuzgo, who finished 9th in Langkawi. For a cyclist in the early break it’s likely to see Luis Freire, Tom Rodriguez or Pablo Garcia Sánchez. They all should have the chance to finish it when the breakaway will stand. Hot Wheels – Porsche has a very strong team here and it wouldn’t surprise us if they’ll take the victory.

With that start list Hot Wheels should get a decent result methinks. If you want to win make sure to keep right towards the front in the final as the finish will hit you before you realise it.

-- I think Hot Wheels can get on the podium but I would like to see the 'old guy' win! Pfft

The Rider: We have to be at the front of the peloton on time. The team is strong and the riders are in shape, so a good result should be possible. And we'll see what happens... Wink

Criterium Hainleite

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/CriteriumHainleite_zps411019e9.jpg

Welcome everyone to the first HWP race ever. We hope this is the first of many. Today there are 160 cyclists starting in Erfurt. Hopefully they’ll all finish without any injuries.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1084_zps38097dd1.jpg

And here we go! We’re starting for the 184 kilometres ahead of us. Immediately there are many attacks from cyclists.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1086_zps45536db5.jpg

Here is Luis Freire. It seemed likely that he should be the man in the breakaway and he was. But it took a lot of time. Especially Euphony and De Rijke were putting on a very high pace. They didn’t want to have a breakaway with too many riders.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1087_zps4d31f830.jpg

And in the breakaway is this cyclist as well. Do you remember him? It’s Frank Hill. He rode for Hot Wheels – Porsche last season but he didn’t get a new contract. He moved to 5-Hour Energy and now he’s racing here.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1088_zpsc801fb8a.jpg

Here is the breakaway with on the background the castle nearby Erfurt. The breakaway contains nine cyclists. Here are their names.
F. Hill – 5-Hour Energy
S. B. Park – Champion System
M. Ishibashi – Nippo
L. Freire – Hot Wheels
K. Fajt – Adria Mobil
E. Porter – Rapha Condor
W. Stephenson – Rapha Condor
C. Pfingsten – De Rijke

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1089_zpsb3ceefbd.jpg

But the peloton was closing the gap. Here you see them cycling on the local course in Erfurt. The peloton to the right, the breakaway in the background to the left.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1090_zpsc8929924.jpg

Luis Freire was by far the strongest rider in the breakaway, especially on the hills. He always took the lead there and pulled the breakaway uphill.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1091_zpscebbaf79.jpg

But there was for him a limit as well. When the gap was under one minute, he attacked after they came up the hill. While the others were catching one’s breath from the hill Freire increased his lead.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1092_zpsbd5bc046.jpg

But the peloton was too strong and caught him. After that, it was Garcia Sánchez who attacked. He got a gap and Barbé countered. Meanwhile we already passed the final three kilometres. Garcia Sánchez still had a gap but in the peloton it was Watson who was in a very good shape. Watson started sprinting, Brammeier followed him just like the others. Watson passed Barbé and after that, when we were at the slightly uphill finish, he passed Garcia Sánchez as well. Brammeier was still close behind him but Watson was faster. Can he win? Can Watson win the first Criterium Hainleite?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1093_zps9b8b2841.jpg

Yes he can! Ian Watson wins the first Criterium Hainleite. 2nd comes Matthew Brammeier and 3rd is Olivier Pardini. Garcia Sánchez finished 9th. It’s the third victory for Watson this season. He also managed to complete one of his goals: win a mass sprint. It’s great to see a cyclist from Hot Wheels – Porsche winning an HWP race, especially because it’s the first race.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1094_zps43229676.jpg

And here is Ian Watson on the podium after his great victory here. It was a great and successful event and we’re now already looking forward to the Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt, which is at the end of the season. The four cyclists who were the favourites for this race finished very well. Pichot (10th), Eeckhout (11th), Sentjes (6th) and Barbé (7th) all managed to finish within the Top-15. And Barbé did what we expected; attacking.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Criterium%20Hainleite/Race/PCM1095_zpsa365b7ec.jpg

And of course the newspaper from the next day. We’re very happy with the race and we’re happy with the result as well. It was great!

Today's Winner

Yay, Pressure produced a Great victory for Watson Grin

The Rider
Super! Banana The team didn't have it all their own way and still delivered.

MrUfo87
sutty68: We just didn't want to disappoint you. Wink

The Rider: The final part of the race was chaotic indeed, but Watson started his sprint right on time. We're happy he's in great shape because that's one of the most important aspects of this victory. But it's great to win in the first HWP race. Smile

Bikex
Great win for Watson! Smile

MrUfo87
Bikex: It's a great victory indeed! I didn't expect to win here though, but he did it! Smile

Settimana Coppi e Bartali – Stage 1

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage1_zps1ce01a69.jpg

Last year we were refused to race here, but this year the Ronde van Drenthe and the Critérium International refused us so we’re happy we can start here. This is the moment that the we’ll switch the cyclists who rode most of the races at the start of the season for fresh riders who’ll become in good shape soon. It’s not that we have two or three groups who ride different parts of the season, but we just want to switch it a bit.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%201/PCM1101_zps26223214.jpg

There was a breakaway with nine riders. And once again it was Freire who was in the breakaway. The stage was short with only 72 kilometres.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%201/PCM1102_zps48e0e5a3.jpg

There was one mountain sprint during the stage. Freire attacked and took all the points without any competition. Although it looked like the peloton would catch the breakaway they didn’t do it. In the end they just let them go so the breakaway could go for the stage.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%201/PCM1103_zpsb7582fbd.jpg

Freire is not a sprinter so he was chanceless. He finished ninth. Gène won the stage and is the first leader here. The most difficult part of this race is that there are two time-trials; one team-time-trial, tomorrow, and one individual time-trial, stage 5. That’s the main difficulty for us. But we’ll see how far we’ll come.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%201/PCM1104_zps192e9852.jpg

At least Freire is leading the mountain classification. Maybe it’s possible to win that classification.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%201/PCM1105_zpsb42cedc2.jpg

Apparently there were no other under 25 cyclists in the breakaway so Freire is also leading the young classification.

Today's Winner

A good day in the saddle for Freire Wink

sutty68: It was a good day indeed. Hopefully he can hold his position in the GC, because he has improved a lot this season. Wink

The second stage was our biggest fear; the team-time-trial. We knew we’d lost a lot of time, so we just wanted to take an awesome picture.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Settimana%20Coppi%20e%20Bartali/Stage%202/PCM1106_zps7f770cb3.jpg

And this is an awesome picture in my opinion. It’s great to see the team. Hopefully their speed will be better in the future. We finished one-before-last. But Movistar, who finished last, had only five cyclists. We were 1”06 behind the winning team FDJ. It’s quite funny that Freire moved up from 9th to 8th in the GC. But that’s because of the time the Movistar rider lost.

Freire is still leading the mountain classification and he will wear it the next two stages as well. Tomorrow there isn’t any sprint, not even an intermediate sprint. In stage 4 there are mountain sprints again so we’ll wear it until then.

Surprisingly Freire is also still leading the young classification. That’s great!

Today’s winner

That picture is awesome indeed, great work by the camera man. Smile
Great for Freire to be leading two classifications!
How did you not become last? Can you tell me the tricks of how to do a team time trial on PCM? Smile

MrUfo87
Bikex: Thanks! Smile The main reason we didn't finished last was that Movistar only has five riders here. They're the team with the less riders. We have eight riders so we were a lot faster. I actually always set their dot on 99 and let the best time-trialers ride the longest time on head of the team, and the bad time-trialers very short or even not riding on head.
