At the start of the season I had many long talks with Kritskiy. He was really insistent that he should concentrate less on time-trialing and more on the cobbled races.
Recognising his huge TT talent I managed to persuade him, for this season, to concentrate on time-trialing. The outcome is history, with three GT stage wins, the Russian TT title and world TT title to his list of accolades this season, I can say we choose the right strategy for our Russian rider.
Next season, will be different. I had a long talk with Tim recently and we both feel he has reached the peaks when it comes to time trials, next season he will focus on the classics (both cobbled and hilly).

A crazy start to the race meant we had no break as we hit the gruelling Passo de Valcava 70 kilometres into the race. Vuelta podium man, Stortoni and our Hungarian champion, Cziraki, were pulling back the numerous early breaks.
With 130 kilometres to go an array of quality riders attack. Nibali and TDF champion Ellisonde (both of Gazprom) initiate the attack, Piedra (ISS), Monier(Dyson), Barton(JDE) and Martin(KAT) also ride up to form a powerful group.
The break proves to be too strong. Holding a strong advantage from the ever decreasing peloton into the final.
We are on the descent of the final climb with under 10 kilometres to go and Nibali pulls away with Ellisonde....But Barton and Piedra make it back in time for the sprint...
The numbers game for Gazprom is worked perfectly, Nibali distracts the opposition while Ellisonde rides away for victory... surely solidifying his positon as rider of the season.
But what about us..... could we fulfil our objective?
WE sure could! Bakelants finished 8th ahead of his teammate for next season De Gendt, a great ride!

There we have it, I haven't done the calculations but I'm pretty sure we are mathematically certain of riding on the World Tour next season. With no team in contention for the second spot riding at the tour of Beijing it looks like we will be joined by Kenda.
Lately I've been spending a lot of time at home with Jelly-Sun, who recently celebrated his 1st birthday, there was a lot of cake, but not for the baby! I will summarise the key cycling stories:
- The continental tour will almost certainly expand in 2020, with more teams from more countries set to receive continental tour licenses.
- Giro D'Italia winner Cattaneo will miss the entire 2020 season having picked up a dreadful tendon ligament injury.
- World Champion Vanendert hasn't ruled out postponing his retirement if 'the right deal' comes on the table.
We have about ten days of racing left in the season, Yildiz will be our best chance of success, can he grab more victories before he departs the team? |

A whole host of top names are taking in this classic type race, it may not be the biggest named race but it has attracted some great riders.
Felline is favourite but he hasn't really been the same since winning Milan San Remo.
Our national champions were closing down many breaks early on in this eventful race. With 100 kilometres to go a 17 man break has 2:50 but would soon be gobbled up with 75 kilometre to go the 6 strongest of the break continue on.
The break is caught and with 7 kilometres to go Salomein attacks, Felline tried to go with him with his second attack of the day but can't...
he would be caught and we would have a sprint.
Rabobank does the double, Boasson Hagen the happier man taking the win, Yildiz didn't have it in the legs today and Bakelants sprinted too late despite finishing well, two men in the top ten for us ain't bad at all.

HISTORY IS MADE
For the first time ever a cyclist from the south pacific nation of Kiribati has been signed. We signed him up after producing great results up the mountains in China and Hong Kong, without our cycling centre in Hong Kong this would not have been possible.
Our former coach, Freire, has seen this guy in action as he owns a bar in the pacfic region and stated ' he has the ability to a be a top top top climber'.
Rarely have I been excited as I am now about this new addition to our clan.
@ MrUFO & Sutty - Win number five for him, I'm still gutted he won't be riding for us next season though, as If he keeps progressing I'm sure he could challenge for classics wins/ GT sprint wins.

My first pro season is over, at times I have wondered if all the suffering was worth it. But, I finish the season much stronger than when I started it, the coaches even tell me I'm one of the better time trialists in the team.
I will be riding the Alps a lot in the off season, bad weather or not as I am satisfied in the knowledge that I will be soaking up the Qatari sunshine at the beginning of next season. My former agent will realise soon he was wrong, so very wrong, that he decided to drop me.

Next season Qatar's cycling scene will be considerably different:
- The tour of Qatar will include a individual TT around 6 kilometres.
- There will be at least one one day race surfacing in Qatar.
- Qatar cyclists may well be competing in the world championships.
All of the above points pale compared to another announcement which is pending, which will really change the sport of cycling in Qatar. Good times are ahead. |

The second and final ultimatum, of the season, has been issued. It goes to our only remaining Ukrainian rider, Zadinskyi, he must not finish in the bottom 50 riders in GC at the Tour of Beijing or his contract will be cancelled with immediate effect.
Can he keep his place for next season? I hope so...
