Deutschland Tour Stage 5


The final climb would cause trouble to many people and the peloton would for sure increase the rhythm before. CSC had a good advantage and several riders to defend it.

With 8 km to go the peloton had reached the BOD and M. Ardila (11th, 5'05) attacked with D. Arroyo responding.

And with just 5 km to go CSC still had 4 men on the front but with many attacks it was hard to know which ones respond.

Marzano (6th, 2'58) got a gap and then Contador attacked! With Voigt, Vandevelde and LL Sanchez on their limits it was Plaza who had to respond.

The rhythm was intense with many people trying to win and inside the last km Contador again and Koldo Gil attacked while Voigt was not holding back there.

But the two were caught again and then Savoldelli was the strongest.

Voigt failed to arrive with the first group and he has lost yellow jersey to his team mate Plaza.

General Classification after Stage 5

With today results and only the time trial to cause changes on the GC, CSC has almost guaranteed a win here because Plaza is a very good time trialist.

Stage 6

On stage 6 Cuapio and Moos managed to escape and discuss the win between them. With none of them being dangerous CSC just had no problems today.

Gutierrez Palacios won the seventh stage in Germany again from a break. Hondo could have won another stage but his team just couldn't get the spanish back.

Stage 8

Sebastian Lang won the 30 km time trial with just 1 second on Savoldelli. Plaza was third and confirmed his win on this Tour, while three other CSC riders getting top 10 places, including LL Sanchez who moved to third place overall making CSC triplet perfect!!

After i raced the Tour on Extreme i lowered the difficulty to Hard and that might have given a hand. But also my guys fitness, a great TTT and having riders who can hold on hills/climb was also decisive. I was expecting a stronger Contador, he lost to much time on the ITT.

Eneco Tour of Benelux


Cancellara came to defend his title from last year. His condition is not the best, but so it wasn't last year.

Stage 1

The short prologue was the first challenge Spartacus would have and his main rival was his team mate Zabriskie. The duo got first and second and so an excellent start to CSC. Boonen, who came to win also did a very good prologue, losing just 12 seconds to the swiss.

Stage 2

On the second stage CSC swedish rider, Marcus Ljunqvist was involved in a crash and couldn't continue. With a fractured hip his season is now over. Joseba Beloki was also involved and fractured his hand and this might have been the last race on his career since he's retiring.

O'Grady tried to discuss the win but the best he did was 4th place. Boonen was superior to everybody and he was now just 2 seconds behind Cancellara on the GC.

Stage 4

On the stage that we had a bit of Fleche Wallonne, Bettini was the best with Cancellara, O'Grady and Boonen losing 1'10 to the italian. Hincapie was also very well placed to win this race.

After the first 4 stages Bettini got himself a nice advantage. With still two time trials to go, Cancellara can still get something out of this race. Boonen winning the sprints and of course, the stage where cobbles will show up also might get him back to the GC discussion.

Eneco Tour of Benelux


Stage 5

On the fifth stage we had a 15 km time trial with the final km made on cobbles. But the bad weather on a strange month of August made the race organization cancel it. Cancellara was very upset about that because it was just 15 km.

Actually i tried to simulate it and a bug gave everybody the same result.


Stage 6

With a better weather the peloton went really slow on the 6th stage, but still there were crashes and one abandon: Pettachi. At the end Boonen was again stronger than everybody and Bettini didn't get to the bonus seconds. O'Grady was 5th.

Stage 7

On a decisive day in Eneco Tour crashes continued to occur and 6 riders abandoned, including Flecha and Nuyens. Cancellara didn't got the strength he needed and he arrived with Bettini. O'Grady had the order to go but he didn't managed to get to Boonen who won both stage and the leader jersey.

Stage 7

On the final day the 17 km time trial was too short to give Cancellara a chance to fight back the 2'21 to Boonen. The belgian defended pretty well and only lost 5 seconds to the swiss who was third. Fortunately CSC had another great time trialist, Zabriskie who won the final stage in Genk.

Clasica de San Sebastian


The classics season is back and in the Basque Country a lot of riders wanted to win. CSC took Alejandro Valverde despite his condition is far from best. Frank Schleck was also a good card to be played and the spanish duo preparing for Vuelta, Plaza and LL Sanchez.

The very best specialists on this kind of races were there with Di Luca, Bettini, Cunego and Samuel Sanchez considered favorites. Last year winner Perdiguero, Kirchen, Celestino and Boogerd were among the outsiders. Caisse D'Epargne took a really strong team in support of Samuel Sanchez with Sastre, Rodriguez and Zaballa, all of them also possible winners.

With many attacks CSC tried to keep everybody in the peloton.

But on the final sprint Bettini was stronger!

Last year winner Perdiguero got the third place right on the line so Schleck was 4th. Valverde was 6th.
