... Sure hope he isn't injured. Bad stuff from Liquigas as well Good ride to return back to them, without the fall I think he could've gained time on that stage. |

It's very hard to keep calm while you attack |

Miguel98: It could've turned out differently, indeed!
TimoCycling: He'll be alright
Schleck96: Indeed, Mollema is a tough SoB
dev4ever: Definitely!
Daggen: Thanks
JuanMotr: It was a bad call from them, a bit like Valverde in the Vuelta irl.
francopell: I think so, too. He had a +4 daily form, so it was possible.
rogvi97: Thanks
Daggen: Well, your mind can keep calm |

Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 16
The breakaway of the day would make it to the finish, but this day is important for another reason...
Every rider has his darker moments. This stage was one of Roberto's. He didn't do anything specifically, nor did he say bad things, but it is one of the races that Roberto spoke of with regret in his later life.
The reason why is simple: that day he was riding to ridicule Nibali. He wasn't thinking about any classification or any other rider besides Nibali.
When Nibali attacked, Roberto noticed he was watching his right.
Roberto publicly ridiculed him by passing him at the left at an incredible speed.
But he waited, Roberto had no plans for a long attack, if he wanted to reach the end of this Giro, he needed to save his energy a bit. He constantly was at Nibali's wheel and when Nibali attacked again, Roberto stuck to his wheel, so smoothly.
...only to dominate him in the sprint so easily.

Roberto refrained from commentary that day, and neither did Nibali. It's obvious to see that Roberto didn't make himself popular in Italy, though. But fortunately for him, the people would forgive him eventually. They'd never love him like the Spanish people, though.
Roberto and Nibali had some contact later that day, as we know now. We listen to Roberto after his retirement, about that day
I really regret that day. It was a stupid thing to do, but I was still young and, at times, still immature. I know now that my fall wasn't Nibali's fault, and that he didn't order the Liquigas train to put me out of the race. But that day I only had a mind to Nibali. I'm ashamed of that day. I was very disrespectful, to Nibali, to the Pink Jersey, to everyone. But fortunately, if I remember it correctly, I had a nice chat with Nibali a bit later and we worked out our differences. The next day I could concentrate on the Giro again, and it was necessary, because I couldn't go to the final TT with only 4 seconds separating me and Mollema. |

I have to admit it was quite funny although disrespectful. It is a bit similar to the Nibali/Wiggins feud. At least he can easily stick to Nibali's wheel if needed. |

Roberto is just playing games with them. He'll be there when he needs to, be sure of that.
I'm confident that he'll win this race.

Only 4 seconds, in this Giro there will be a big fight for the leader jersey, though i'm sure Roberto will be the winner |

HaRe: Thanks a lot! Really
francopell: That's true he's still in a great shape.
Wild Dog: His great recuperation talent will give him the edge in the final stages
ste_18: We'll see what the final stages bring us!
JuanMotr: Mollema 68 and Roberto 66, but Roberto's recup stat is 4 more, so I think it'll be about the same |
