1. There's never going to be a course that suits all.
200+ riders and all need an equal chance of winning? Never going to happen!
Find a route that gives climbers, punchers, sprinters etc. an equal chance of winning and I'll by you a beer.
This year it suited the sprinters (as the race turned out), and that's just that.
(...)
What if we have a hundred 200 meters long climbs at 20% paved with cobbles, that end with a 1km flat?
Hah, nice try, but it's not going to win you that beer!
I think it's brilliant, so beer me up, Scotty!

Your idea might be good, but it doesn't fit the premise of the assignment since it only allows a few riders to actually have a chance at winning. I give you a D overall.

20% for Schleck and Contador, 200m hills for Sagan and Gilbert, cobbles for Cancellara and a little bit of flat for Cavendish |

Hmm...even if those you mentoin will be happy (and you know that Andy won't be...he'll find something to cry about), there's still the matter of the rest of the 200+ riders...the "average Joe's" won't like that course at all! |

I got a decent amount of money on Cavendish, so he better not disappoint.
I love you, Cavendish! |

Thta's why it will be 320km with a 20km flat to begin with. You know, for breakaways to form. |

320 km?!
I'm trying to imagine what it would be like for the guys in the breakaway that is going to last for 300km+...but my mental images keep ending with the legs falling off the riders before the finish line |

Well, it's the World Championship isn't it?
I think I'm really on to something here. Tell me, where do i find the phone number for the president of the UCI? His home number will be fine. |

And finally, back to normal "width" of the page!
Valkenburg next year should be nice, just like I think this year's Worlds were nice. |

Maybe we should have a PCM-ish WC once? Up Mt. Ventoux 4 times. |

And I added another reason to the ones I really dislike Voeckler too. One minute he's shaking his head in the late break saying he can't do any more - then the next he's the only one responding to Hoogerland and what do you know - he's then the one to have one last throw of the dice when the break is reeled in.
Anyway - well done, Cav!
Voeckler has pulled that move so many times no one is surprised anymore. I don't know how many times i've seen him feign tiredness before suddenly attacking. When your legs are burning, you feel you can't do anything more. When you see someone attacking, or an opportunity to attack yourself, then it's your head that decides, and the legs do what they can, for a short while. It's not like he feinted death before starting to ride faster than a whole peloton for dozens of kilometres...
To be fair to him, it was partly the way commentators here were talking him up so much when he made the last move that really got my goat.
Having said that, I think Voeckler is far more calculating than you would seem to give him 'credit' for... |
