HUSHOVD!!!!

Great race (without radio). Hushovd is a really nice world champion. Spain has failed, especially Freire. Perfect scenario, but he couldn't even finish top 3. Also remarkable was the really poor dutch squad on paper, who performed quite well. I hope Terpstra can show some more next year. Banana

the horror....... the horror........

Just finished watching the replay.
Now to prepare for an entire year where in every single race the commentators will every time they mention Thor refer to him as "the worlds best cyclist".

And in every single race that Hushovd does not win, the explanation will be: "It's okay, he lost because of the rainbow-curse, he'll win the Giro next year".

I understand well why the recorder playing the national song decided to take suicide. Pfft

In all seriousness though: I'm happy for Thor. He looked strong throughout the day and held along reasonably well in the hills. Besides, all the übernazionalistic posts by 12yo barely pubescent boys actually make quite fun reading.

Really good race that - course played out excellently.

Well done to Thor.

Pozzato is a poor excuse for a team leader. What the hell was he doing? Raising wheelsucking and not doing anything to an art form. What was he expecting - someone to hand the World's to him on a plate?

Pity Gilbert didn't ease off a bit and bring a few of the others with him. Would have given him more chance.

Thor Hushovd, world champ... such a perfect day! Smile

Fantastic ARASHIROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

He's a beast, this is just the training for him for next year's win. Don't say I didn't warn you! Pfft

Now seriously, great job for Hushovd, and great fuck up by Pozzatto and the whole Spanish team. And a shame for Gilbert, we'll need to wait for two years yo have a chance again, but the climbs were too far from the fiish.

Great ride from Hushovd, eventhough his ride was "expected," sitting there, and taking home the sprint when it became a sprint. None the less, I'm very happy. Smile

Pozzato was as expected. I think it was Lefèfvre who once said, after Pozzato had left for Katusha, that Pozzato physically was just as strong as Boonen in the cobbled classics. His mindset though, is just defensive. And after watching races after Lefevrè's "statement", I agree with Lefevrè, and I think today was another pretty good example. He tried to wheelsuck Gilbert, and couldn't even do that.

Shame for Gilbert and Belgium that he couldn't hold on, the headwind really killed him. But honestly, I won't complain.

I woke up at 17:00 Pfft

Anyway, great race, fantastic excitement from halfway the race till the end. I was suprised by the strength of the Dutch team since it was rather unexpected. Moerenhout, Terpstra, Poels all did an excellent job.

Gilbert the strongest rider in the race but he had the course against him. Really hoped he would win after he dropped everyone like a stone in the final lap. Unfortunately some Slovenians decided it would be nicer to let Hushovd win.

I'd rather say Kolobnev.
Are you kidding me, Kolobnev only started doing something in the final 2 laps.

Moerenhout was in nearly all moves from start to finish?

I also hoped that Evans and Martens can close the gap to Gilbert. But unfortunately the big pack came from behind.
These 3 could have done better against the wind than Gilbert alone.
Might be the 3 strongest today plus Terpstra and Moorenhout.

I understood "Rider of WCs' as someone who does well at WCs every year. Kolobnev is a fine example of that.

In this context it was pretty clear Tuco was talking about this years race.

One can only wonder what would've happened if the break had gone a slight bit harder at the start and gained an extra 50 seconds....they'd have lapped the field and we'd have Kvachuk or Tamayo or whoever as champion.

I think the strong teams would have ridden their asses out to drop them and then they would get the lap back Wink

I think the organisers would have done some exception and let the race continue with the whole peloton like in scratch or so Smile
