Today in the Carlton-Kirby-Is-Ridiculous update: [With 500 metres to go] "Is Tony Martin going to produce one of the most outstanding individual performances of any time in history?"
Like... it was a great ride from Martin but let's not overstate it. This wasn't Coppi in the 1946 Milan-San Remo or anything.
So that's the name of the guy? He litterarily never shuts up during a broadcast.

Sorry, but how would this not have been one for the history books?
I get that there are a lot of shit commentators out there, but atleast complain when there's something to complain about.

That was almost so unbelievably unpredictable and awesome. Such a shame for Tony Martin, I was wishing him home all the way. While Cancellara proved to be the best lead-out train ever for Morkov.

I assume he means in cycling, and if so I think he is right. You just don't do 150+ km solo rides and win in modern cycling.

Modern cycling never comes into it, we are comparing it to the last 110 years of cycling history. Tell me how this would be anywhere near as good as Coppi at the Milan - San Remo in 1946. It is great, but would we have remembered this day for the rest of our lives? Not really.

Modern cycling/competition has everything to do with how impressive a victory is.
I'm not saying it's the greatest victory of all time in cycling, but it definetly would have been mentioned and talked about for years to come.
Now I don't have to listen to Carlton/Kirby so maybe I don't know how horrible they are, but I don't get why you get angry about a statement made in the heat of the moment, that could actually be true depending on who you ask.

It is just one man, Carlton Kirby. He is always a truly terrible commentator.
I'm just annoyed slightly because he is consistently terrible and his overstating how important this victory is reduces the value of greater moments throughout the history of cycling. It is just that it is a rare thing to happen but, while it is impressive, it isn't seaosn-defining like the victory I mentioned earlier. I'm not angry by the way, I just think that the man is ridiculous and overstating this quite seriously.
EDIT: And I feel I should comment once again... this was a magnificent ride from Martin. Honestly, not many others could have come even that close to pulling it off. The above is solely directed at the commentary.
