I've seen Roberto close time gaps like that before but i think the ITT will be Nibalis victory

dienblad: Thanks! The next stages will be very important.

ventoux: Henao is way down (lost time in first week). Well, I didn't edit his stats so blame the database Wink

Jakstar22: Hopefully!

rogvi97: It won't be easy, but he won't give up either Wink all he needs is one excellent day.

sutty68: Definitely not, thanks Wink Roberto is a motivated soldier!

FreitasPCM: We'll see in a little while Wink

SSJ2Luigi: The Netherlands has some very good riders, but 2 leading the GC at the Giro, that I'd like to see happening Pfft

Schleck96: Thanks Wink

Jesleyh: Me, too!

Daggen: Definitely. But I hope Roberto won't lose too much time (he's got great recup, so that should be in his advantage)

Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 14

Definitely a stage Roberto had his mind on, he needed to do something if he wanted to win this Giro.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1401.jpg

The peloton started the climbing with Rabobank well in charge. A small breakaway of the day was ahead and Txurruka, Roberto's teammate, was between the two groups. We would soon learn why.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1402.jpg

In the first km of the first climb of the day, Roberto made the jump to Txurruka, who went full gas for several km, before dropping back and leaving Roberto alone.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1403.jpg

Roberto gained a minute quickly and the goal of his plan worked, the leader were drawn out to work themselves. Their teammates weren't strong enough to pull him back, so Nibali and Mollema went up front in the second part of the climb.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1404.jpg

It was obvious Roberto was heading to a stage win.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1405.jpg

Nibali was getting nervous and launched an attack, his first mistake.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1406.jpg

Mollema left him dying a km later. It was unexpected but this is the place where Nibali definitely lost this Giro. It wouldn't be for him in 2014.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1407.jpg

Roberto had one concurrent left. But that didn't matter that day, all that mattered was the sweet relief of victory and a plan well executed!

This was a very noticable day. Roberto Velásquez started out without any jersey, and at the end of the day, he had conquered every single jersey possible. And he wasn't planning to give any of those jerseys back up.

Vincenzo Nibali:
I made a mistake by getting nervous. That's something you can never let happen in cycling. Two minutes is not much, but I have to consider what I'm up against. Roberto is a major talent and he'll never allow anyone to take 2 minutes back. I'm afraid my Giro ends here. But at least I can try, can't I?

Mollema:
He's a strong climber, but he isn't without weaknesses. I will find his weakness and hopefully I'll find it in time. I believe I can do this. I have a lot of respect for him, he's young but wise, and he's the world champion. But my respect won't stand in my way, I will still try to overtake him here. I'm not talent-less myself. Four seconds is nothing.

Roberto Velásquez:
It was a good day. Very hard, though. Txurruka was a major help, I really have him to thank for this win. Nibali is at a comfortable distance, not impossible to bridge, though. I don't like those 4 seconds between me and Bauke. My next objective is increasing that gap. Those other jerseys are of a much lower priority.

Although it technically wasn't a lie of Roberto, he didn't really mean it. Roberto was a cannibal, and cannibal's always think big. He sure as hell would fight for every single one of those jerseys, even if it meant his potential downfall. That's just the rider he was, all or nothing. Luckily for him and for cycling history, he mostly got it all.

The cracks are beginning to show... Nibali collapsed.

I just hope he can recover from all these long range attacks. He might overextend himself if he isn't careful...

Thanks for the many replies, once again!!

Miguel98: Thanks Wink

dev4ever: Grin Back in business!

dienblad: Thanks a lot!

francopell: That's true. His tactical attacks are very demanding. Luckily he's still young and he can endure the pain for a long time Smile

fcancellara: Thanks Wink

TimoCycling: Thanks, against a team as Liquigas, you need some tactics!

Jakstar22: Definitely!

Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 15

A big mountain stage. This stage, however, would be known as one of the most exciting stages of 2014, and I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1501.jpg

The big surprise happened in a downhill section, at about 60-65km from the finish. Roberto hit the ground.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1502.jpg

The world held their breath as he didn't seem to move. Fortunately, he stood up 15 seconds later. The team had waited for him.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1503.jpg

But getting back to the peloton with 2 minutes behind would not be easy, as Liquigas saw this as a sign to turn up the pace a notch.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1504.jpg

Eventually, Roberto had only one helper left.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1505.jpg

And then... no one. He found the back of the peloton alone.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1506.jpg

Luckily he had about 5km to recuperate, and then Mollema (among many others) launched an attack. Roberto's tactic without any teammates was to stick with Mollema.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1507.jpg

Cataldo won the stage.

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh490/IanButlerPCM/giro1508.jpg

Roberto, Mollema and Nibali finished together, nothing had happened despite the crash.

Roberto Velásquez:
I'm pretty shook up, to be honest. That fall really hurt my back, I just went to see the doctor, he will tell what's what in about an hour. I hope I'm alright. I think what Liquigas did was a shitty thing. But I guess that's cycling.

Vincenzo Nibali:
I didn't tell my team to start riding, but the management did. I don't want to win the Giro by abusing people's misfortune, but I won't sit back and do nothing either. It's not easy to make the right decision all the time. It was no disrespect for Roberto, that's for sure.

Miguel98
Luck for Robert.

TimoCycling
Lucky he got back! Hope he's not too injured.

Schleck96
I hope he can increase that gap but it won't be easy.
