Cavendish beat Goss, simple. Its all about the finish line, get there first. Doesnt matter if youre not first a metre or two later. Goss was faster at the finish line, but he didnt get there first.
Greipel was finishing even faster than Goss but he didn't win either - you might as well say that someone who finished 20 minutes behind was faster. It's irrelevant.
Actually I don't think Goss was faster than Cavendish. First, Cav started the sprint behind Goss, then when going full speed he was in front, with Goss now in second place kinda protected by the Brit's splipstream. That allowed Goss to have a final kick on the finish line and made it look like he was faster than Cav. At least that's what I remember.

Nice victory for Cavendish and great race. I was bit disapointed that Hagen and Gilbert couldn´t really challenge for victory. |

Just saw the summary of the WC. The Brits did great and I think Cavendish deserved the win. Too bad Lars Boom couldn't hold his position in the last 500m. Better luck next year in Valkenburg, I think we'll see Gilbert winning there!

Im surprised it ended up being such a great race. I failed though, as i've said Cavendish wouldnt win. But congrats to him, i think its really really good for the sport that he wins now it became a sprinterrace. |

Cav´s secret for the win: a condom about his helmet
The British team was really strong, Cavendish had a good position and perfect timing in the end. Goss and Australia did a good job, too. I´m surprised Greipel finished 3rd with his positioning skills, but he had a great sprint.
And did i mention how happy i am that Gilbert didn´t win today?

Gilbert barely even took part. Top 20 finish, but I dont remember seeing him once.

Indeed. I at least thought he would try something, did he really think he could beat Cavendish, Goss, Greipel etc in a sprint...? I guess he did |

And I added another reason to the ones I really dislike Voeckler too. One minute he's shaking his head in the late break saying he can't do any more - then the next he's the only one responding to Hoogerland and what do you know - he's then the one to have one last throw of the dice when the break is reeled in.
Anyway - well done, Cav!
Voeckler has pulled that move so many times no one is surprised anymore. I don't know how many times i've seen him feign tiredness before suddenly attacking. When your legs are burning, you feel you can't do anything more. When you see someone attacking, or an opportunity to attack yourself, then it's your head that decides, and the legs do what they can, for a short while. It's not like he feinted death before starting to ride faster than a whole peloton for dozens of kilometres... |

I hate Mark cavendish so much. He is so conceded.I'm thinking about murdering him before the 2012 TDF |

I only have two things say about this discussion about today's race:
1. There's never going to be a course that suits all.
200+ riders and all need an equal chance of winning? Never going to happen!
Find a route that gives climbers, punchers, sprinters etc. an equal chance of winning and I'll by you a beer.
This year it suited the sprinters (as the race turned out), and that's just that.
2. Congratulations to Cavendish and Britain!
The entire British team worked their a**** off, and their effort was deserving of the vicory they got...even though I'd love to have seen us Danes standing a better chance than we ended up with |

What if we have a hundred 200 meters long climbs at 20% paved with cobbles, that end with a 1km flat? |

What the devil? You just said this here, this makes you the main suspect if so. |

For starters, I think it was terribly disrespectful of him not to celebrate like this today

I'm not sure you understood my post. Read it again. More importantly, read the other guy's post again
