Mendrisio ITT
In spring Italian cycling federation offer me national team coach duty and I was accept it..ot for ITT I choosed Basso, Bruseghin, Pinotti and Quinziato..
As Cancellara is totaly wasted after long season and Larsson misses that race..favorites will be american team members.
Basso..he still in great shape after Vuelta...not bad first man who is out of podium 4th. (+1'14)
Lang..Germans did not bring Bert Grabsch and Martin..Lang today 12. (+2'29)
Boom 11. (+2'19)
Gutierrez 8. (+2'07)
Armstrong 2nd. place..(+49 sec.)
Pinotti 6. (+1'44)
Bruseghin 5th. (+1'35)..so italian team 4-5..close..but no podium for us..
Evans..fastest man today..and new world chmap. there will be fun road race title battle between Basso and Evans..they both look still in great shape. Strong ride..now one even close.
Dekker 7th. (+1'58)
Leipheimer pronze..(+1'03)

Mendrisio
This is gonna be real intresting race..if look race lenght and profile..
we have 220 to go..and fresh ITT world 3rd. place winner..Leipherimer is crashed.. tempo is real high..he would not get back..one strong name is out of the game.
Has Italia has one of strongest team..why not to use it..Nocentini to the front..and tempo is starting to hurt..p.s. we have 175km. to go.. Grazy day. (Rider with best stamina will survive).
152. to go and Gesink decided to go..
Counter atack..Gutierrez, Lloyd, Klöden, Valjavec, Uran...Italia will sent Scarponi
After several atack wave..we have 4 riders left at the front..Gesink, Klöden, Valjavec and Scarponi..strong group.
G2..Uran, Gutierrez..
81km to go..Belgium team as caused split..we have Gilbert, ...Evans, Rogers, ...Basso, Di Luca.
Bad luck..after all this work Gilbert crashes (75 km. to go.)
Australia wont wait..Gilbert. Evans moves to the front and start working..
Rogers cant follow..just Basso , Di Luca and Meersman left...
63 km. to go..has I already expected..Evans atack..
But no..Di Luca helping Basso back..there.
57. to go..and again..
Di Luca has to tyred to repeat he's trick again..Basso atacked after Evans..and has caught him in descent.. (Vuelta battle will continue)..Klöden group is still out there..
47km to go..and again Evans atack..there is G2 guys Gutierrez and Uran. Basso follows.
Great race..
..has he droped?..No!
..Evans has used all trick's he knows to get riddle from Basso..did not worked out ..and then he starting to talk..lets work together!
Basso had he's lessons with that..He atacked before the hill top..and is clear to go alone.39. to go..
Basso has caught lead group..31 km. to go..
No time to waste..Evans is chasing..Scarponi looks tyred he is no able to help a lot..Basso moving to the front..only Gesink can respond.
But not for long..Basso is alone again..
Moment later Evans is in the same situation..
Same time at the back..Dekker and Armstrong catched Di Luca.. This can be 3rd. place battle.
Di Luca has escaped from Armstrong group..and is riding now in Klöden group..
Evans trying to get back..but gap stays in the same level.
4.8km. to go..and Di Luca atacking ..attempt to go after podium place..
Basso will take World champ. title..amazing year..
Evans 2nd. great worlds. for him..silver and gold.
Di Luca 3rd. ...Scarponi 5th....best team Italia.

Superb performance Guido, what a season for Basso and Evans both!
Lets see the team and individual rankings - it would be quiet interesting to see the wins and who got them from your team.
Fischer, Benetti and Basso seemed to be the main winners, but how about the likes of Nibili, Kreuzinger and Pellizotti? |
