The best thing about this euro so far is that, unlike previous ones, the referees can try all they can that they still won't be able to force the home team to win. They're that bad
Thank god for that. England 96 and Korea 02 still give me chills when I remember the forced homerism.

Why would Holland want to lose anyway. If I were a reserve squad player, I would ignore orders and still try to win.
It's not in Dutch nature to give away a match or to try sneaky tactics. We just want to play good football and win, this is why we never win a world championship |

I think Korea 02 was just incompetence of oth the refs and the italians, I don't think there was much actually match fixing. Also I'm sure some English people will complain about 96 but I am not old enough to remember it.

I don't agree at all. Revise Korea's match against my home country. That could not simply be a coincidence. |

I doubt they will. besides the semi-final where referee did everything except phisically kick the ball into the english goal, I remember the Spain-England match vividly despite the fact I was so very young.
Kiko scores. called off. why? no reason at all.
Kiko scores again. called off. why? no reason at all.
both of them would be the game-winning "golden goal".
As for Korea, only their group phase games were fair (I didn't see the 3rd/4th place game)

Well the 3rd 4th game was great, the ball flying from end too end. Turkey won, but it was the best game at the world cup.
Ok I have just lookad at highlights of the games and I agree that spain were done by the refs, I still think the Italians were just beaten by a more physical team.

Disaster for France. That could be expected to some extent, but still...
- the champions league finale was already late in the season, and prevented a good preparation
- the french cup finale was even later, the federation felt it was no need to set it earlier this season, despite the national team qualifying for the euro
- domenech didn't pick the best 23 but a starting 11 and 11+1 subs. that was a good thing, theoretically. problem : he was still hesitant about both his tactic and his starting 11 before the euro and changed tactics 3 times in 3 matchs. second problem : the atmosphere inside the group seems to have been a disaster : benzema has acted like an arrogant bitch and got flamed at least by henry and makelele, that's why gomis entered the pitch in his place against netherlands (not that it would have changed much).
- why take vieira when you say "if he can't play before the quarter finales i won't pick him!" ? there's been a wrong diagnostic about his thigh injury it seems
- domenech used to say that to be called in the national team you had to play with your club. that was true till "the ancient" came back late 2005 (Zidane, Thuram, Makélélé), to get a peaceful atmosphere in the group he granted them a place in the first team. that worked in 2006, in 2008 they were really too old and out of condition. that had to happen one day, hopefully after the euro.
- why can't we score frigging goals despite all the opportunities we get ? during the last 6 matchs (preparation + euro) we scored 3 goals, 2 in the first match thanks to gomis, and one almost offside by Henry against NL.
- sometimes in our history during the big competitions have we been lucky. in this euro we clearly were not, a bit like the 7 posts and bars in 2002. main players injured, a lot of realism by the nl, etc. the winners' luck clearly wasn't ours this time.

In my opinion France problem was simple. They waisted all their chances. If you don't take your chances, you lose, simple as that. By missing so many chances against Holland they were just waiting to be slaughtered |

They are being completely outclassed by Russia. There's nothing undeserved in this match. |

We did a bad game, there is not much to say.....we needed to be in the same class as against Spain to have a chance, and we weren't. Congrats to Russia, I like attacking playing teams |

I think this is much better for you, Russia have a worse defence then Sweden, and you have usually had problem facing Sweden before |
