Hot Wheels - Porsche | We're back!
The Rider
I meant:
-- To finish 25th with many strong riders in the race is a good result considering lack of form/ Hot wheels current stats/ TTT ranking.
-- I was thinking Watson couldn't win the intermediate sprints because of relative poor flat/ recovery stats.. maybe?

But forget that

I get the 20,000 view on this story! www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/dreadlocks.gif

The Rider: Okay, well I think I didn't do too bad in understanding it. Pfft 25th is indeed good, but that's mainly because of big crashes from others. Well, it's also good to see we can avoid them. Smile Already a while ago I did this, but I thought there were other sprinters in the breakaway who were better, or I just forgot the sprint and was too late to win it. Don't know it anymore. Embarassed But Watson is in great shape and I hope he can do well the next races.

Yay, 20.000 view. Grin That deserves a good result... Smile

I agree with The Rider, finishing in 25th place with all that talent in the race is still a pretty good performance and maybe next season the team will come back and challenge for the win, its all about learning Smile

sutty68: Thanks mate! Smile But now enough about the future, we have races to ride. Today's Volta ao Algarve coming up! I'll promise; it'll be better than Qatar. Much better... Wink

Volta ao Algarve – Stage 1

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage1_zps4a4dad44.jpg

Today starts the Volta ao Algarve, a race in Portugal. The sponsor goal is to finish in the Top-10. Although he’s Portuguese champion and one of our best riders, Rodrigues won’t start here. Our squad is almost the same as in the Tour of Qatar, because these cyclists are in better shape than the others.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0975_zps11c2063d.jpg

Vincent Rogers is our rider in the breakaway. He finished third at the first mountain sprint. This stage has some hills and mountain sprints, and Rogers is a cyclist who should’ve some opportunities here.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0976_zps58b061e1.jpg

The second mountain sprint was weird. Only Rogers attacked and the others just rode in his wheel. Rogers took the points, which is good for us.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0977_zps943cf30f.jpg

But the peloton didn’t really chase the breakaway. With ten kilometres to go, the breakaway still had more than three minutes. At this point, Rogers decided to attack. He could take the win, and the leader jersey!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0978_zps5d8f34da.jpg

Unfortunately the others chased too hard and passed him with two kilometres to go. Attacking was our only opportunity for the stage win, because Rogers is a very bad sprinter.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0979_zps845007cd.jpg

Eventually, it was Gilbert (Martin, not Philippe) who won the stage. Rogers finished tenth. He’s one of the better climbers of the ten who finished with a gap to the peloton, so we see opportunities in the GC!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0980_zps348ee903.jpg

Watson finished third in the sprint of the peloton, which is also good news for us.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%201/PCM0981_zpsd6d24dec.jpg

Rogers took the mountain jersey. Hopefully we can keep that, but our main target is of course the GC.

Today's Winner

Good stage of Rogers and the mountain jersey Smile
i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Graphicsbanner2_zpsecb3da47.png

The Rider
Had to give it a go with Rogers, given he is a terrible sprinter.

With the peloton over 3'00 down maybe he can move up in the GC. Wink

tmr96: It's a good start indeed. Hopefully we can hold this the next few days. The riders are in very good shape so it should be possible... Wink

The Rider: Yes, unfortunately we didn't have Watson in the breakaway. I think that he could've won here now, but it is how it is. We'll try to move up, but it still will be difficult. We have to take it in the two hilly stages which are stage two and three. Our biggest fear is stage five, which is a time-trial. That will be very difficult.

That was a Great effort from Rogers today Smile, hopefully a sign of things to come Wink

MrUfo87
sutty68: Yes, he did very well. I hope so, because the team is in great shape. I almost expect it, but I may not forget that this is only their first or second year in the peloton.

Volta ao Algarve – Stage 2

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage2_zps1f4206f9.jpg

The second stage was, just like the first one, a hilly one.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0984_zps4ca316dd.jpg

The start was chaotic, so Freire was leading alone. He took the first mountain sprint.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0985_zps3928a90e.jpg

The second mountain sprint was won by Chalapud and at that moment he was also leading the mountain classification. Freire was third this time.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0987_zps16783ceb.jpg

Nobody was interested in the first intermediate sprint, so Freire took it. Maybe the points or bonification seconds could be useful...

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0988_zps0dd44d8d.jpg

Chalapud didn’t sprint at the third mountain sprint while Freire was two points behind him. Freire saw his chance and took the second place there. Now he’s leading the mountain classification.

At the second intermediate sprint there were some other riders interested in the points and bonifications. Freire was third here and took some of them.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0990_zps93ee7b79.jpg

With ten kilometres to go, the breakaway had a gap just like yesterday. There was a short, uphill part on the road and Freire decided to attack. Maybe he could take the victory!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0991_zps83e81e5b.jpg

But no. Just like Rogers yesterday, Freire got caught within the last two kilometres.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0992_zps08dde008.jpg

It was a close sprint between Docker and Ljungblad, but it was the 35-year old Swede who took the stage. The gap between the breakaway and the peloton was almost the same as yesterday. Freire is now 7th in the GC, while Rogers is twelfth now.

Freire took over the lead in the mountain jersey from his teammate Rogers. We still have the jersey and of course we’ll try to keep it.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%202/PCM0994_zpsf9f4b825.jpg

Freire also took the lead in the young classification. This is great!

Luis Freire with another nice top ten for the team Smile and looking good on the GC too Wink

tmr96
After the first stage Rogers had one jersey
After the second stage Freire had two jerseys
How will this end? Pfft

Great stage of Freire Smile

sutty68: Yes, this is very good what we're doing. We even moved up in the GC. One hilly stage and one time-trial to go. Hopefully we can do something great in the last hilly stage. When we're looking to the first two hilly stages it should be possible... Wink

tmr96: Well, uhm, I think winning all four jerseys? Pfft Unfortunately there are five stages and only four jerseys. Pfft But Freire did great indeed and I'm happy with the result, although a stage win would be nice. I mean, two times we're in the breakaway which last till the finish. Maybe we have another chance tomorrow... Wink

Volta ao Algarve – Stage 3

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage3_zps9ba6434b.jpg

Today was the last hilly stage here. After this stage there are a flat stage and the time-trial. But first today.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM0995_zps345e043f.jpg

Of course we were in the breakaway. This time it was our sprinter Ian Watson. Maybe it was better if he was in the breakaway in the first or second stage, because the finishes were flat there. Today we’ll finish uphill and there are some riders in the breakaway who are better in climbing. But fortunately Watson is in very good shape.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM0996_zps4fd841de.jpg

And he showed that; he won the first mountain sprint today. One of many. But he can beat the better climbers in the breakaway.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM0997_zps80e5197b.jpg

But at the intermediate sprint the Cuban national champion Romero surprised him; Watson was second there.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM0998_zpsb32e2f89.jpg

But Watson was very strong uphill. Here he won another mountain sprint and once again he took some mountain points. If he’ll keep taking these points it’s likely he’ll take over the mountain jersey from Freire. And with only one mountain sprint after this stage then it’s also very likely he’ll win the jersey. But he doesn’t have it yet.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM0999_zpsf67313ac.jpg

But of course he kept taking these points. Here he won; again.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1000_zpsf129e73e.jpg

But here he didn’t won. It was very close, but he was second.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1001_zps12a500e6.jpg

And then, wow, only one kilometre to go and it looks like the breakaway would hold it. The gap to the peloton is once again three minutes. And it looks like Watson could follow the best riders of the breakaway. He’s a good sprinter, but can he go for the stage win... maybe?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1002_zpsdda56f74.jpg

YES HE CAN! What a great victory for our young sprinter! He just won a stage here. And it’s a very big surprise for us. He’s in great shape, but winning uphill from better climbers? We didn’t expect that! But it’s great!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1003_zpsdba60764.jpg

And here he is; Ian Watson, nineteen years old, took his third victory in his career. Last year he was our first rider who ever won a stage, and immediately after that he won the classification. Now he’s our first rider who won this season, and he can go for the classification as well! What a great result!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1004_zps695eab34.jpg

And here he is; in the leader jersey! With two stages to go and without a good time-trialist near his position he can go for the classification! Freire and Rogers hold their positions in the peloton and they’re now on a good 3rd and 9th position. Three riders in the top ten at the moment; two more than the sponsor wants.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1005_zps157aac13.jpg

Watson is also leading the points classification. With an expecting mass sprint tomorrow we’ll see after tomorrow if it’s possible to win this jersey. But we’ll see; it’s not our main target.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1006_zpsd7d9b18b.jpg

And, after winning all those mountain sprints, Watson is the leader and winner of this jersey! We already have one award here; can we go for another one, or maybe even more?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1007_zps30fd69b8.jpg

And of course Watson is also leading the young classification, immediately followed by Freire and Rogers.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1008_zps6ceeea98.jpg

Finally we’re also leading the team classification. With a few World Tour teams here and four former world champions it’s awesome to be first in all those classifications. Hopefully we can keep this!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20ao%20Algarve/Stage%203/PCM1009_zpsd488592c.jpg

And of course, the newspaper from the next morning. What a great finish shot!

Today's Winner

The Rider
Looks like tmr predicted it! Complete domination in the Algarve by Hot Wheels! www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/mexican.gif

It will be difficult to hold on though with the TT coming up, but who knows as Watson is in great form. Smile

The Rider: Yeah, his reply surprised me. Shock Pfft We're really strong here and it's nice that our hard work and great shape pays out. The TT will be very difficult indeed. But the other riders in the Top-10 aren't good in time-trials as well. In my opinion is Philippe Gilbert, 16th, our first opponent. But the question is if can he take 2"13 back on Watson.

Watson with a Great stage win and now holding the Leaders jersey Grin

The GC is looking good for the team, lets hope they can hold on to the Overall victory Wink
