Martin flatted with 20 km to go. He chased back alone, no help from his teammates. When he reached the back the pack was all strung out from the pace. Garmin should have helped him to the front there. They still had Hesjedal, Kreder, and Wegmann. He got no help. and got pretty close to the front by himself. He was in the 4th row on the base of the Mur.
He looked really good from a back shot we saw going up, but a bunch a domestiques were cracking in front of him and he was blocked in and too far away from responding. But you saw the force he had at the end. Almost pipped Betancur for the podium coming from like 10th place around the last bend. Amazingly strong.
Garmin should be all in for him on Sunday. And if he has the kind of day he had today, with no acidents and good positioning, he's my pick for Liege-Bastogne-Liege. |

You really weren't kidding when you said you were a Martin fanboy, bb!
I doubt he would've done much better even with better position, though. He said himself in an interview after the race that he probably could've taken 3rd, but probably not more than that. Regardless of how strong he looked, he was on the limit as well.
And I agree with you that he's looking great for LBL.

He was only judged as 3 seconds behind! Maybe he's just being modest.
I don't know. I have become a Martin fanboy indeed. But like you said, I like him for LBL. |

Poor result for OGE today, Albasini highest in 21st. Oh well. |

I don't get the surprise over Moreno, tbh

to the front and then out of the back
He was going to try, but then he remembered this isn't the Tour de France yet

Rise hands who thought about Moreno... in velogames I did
@ kumazan: your beloved Moreno... :S
I *thought* about him then checked his form and thought no way
I also thought about Nocentini but he's done nothing too until top 10 today...
Was very good in late February/early March actually. And was set to finish the Tirreno very high up on GC until he started that insane stage long break on the penultimate stage and exploded, lost like 20 mins in one stage or something

You could call Zbigniew Spruch's 2000 season quite impressive, though my knowledge only goes back to the late 90s.
Ryszard Szurkowski won the Peace Race 4 times, when it was the biggest race in Eastern Europe.
Zenon Jaskula did amazing things when he decided to try EPO before most people did, back in 93

Re: Nocentini, yes he did well in Oman. Which is why I even considered him so a bit unfair throw away comment on my part of he's "done nothing" |

That was disappointing from Vanendert. Clearly lacking a bit of Ibarguren.
He had to chase twice, first because of a fall, then because of a flat tire.
Also, last year he rode top ten results in all four hilly classics while Ibarguren was already at OPQ. |

Fell twice on the way and still finished 6th, pure class act.
