Short and hard today. Only 123km, but with 2 Cat1 climbs today, The GC is still all to play for. In other news, it's take 8 days to find it, but the sun is out! We've got beautiful weather of Nice this morning and temperatures of 21degrees, ideal riding weather!

Commentators Picks

David Harmon: Thomas Voeckler has a good chance today in my opinion. The stage looks built for an aggressive rider whose strong downhill. Add that to the fact that Voeckler is on home territory and has had a pretty lean race so far, I think he'll be keen to contest today.

Sean Kelly: I follow your reasoning, but for me it'll be Peter Sagan. I back him to get over those climbs, and he's got all to play for in the GC standings.

Magnus Backstedt: Urán/Henao. The colombian joint leaders have the ability to rip up the pack together on a stage like this. We've not seen much from the yet, but I think they might do some damage this afternoon.

Catching up with the Morning...

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0001_zpsfed04a4e.jpg
2men kicked off the morning of the final day with an early attack. Portugese champion José Cabreira was joined by Lars Bochman of Tulip Guinness as they tried to create this mornings breakaway

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0003_zps851a976d.jpg
With 107km to the line the duo were joined by a further 4 riders to create the days breakaway. The 4 were; B-J Lindeman(ING), J.Hivert(CCC), Danilo Di Luca(Fastweb) and G.Chadwick(PGR)

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0004_zpsd27573bf.jpg
None of the riders in the breakaway have any points in the KotM contest. Despite the possibility to take the lead through victory atop all of the days 4 climbs, none of the riders seemed interested in this mornings first sprint. Bochman was left to trundle across the line first

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0005_zps412697b3.jpg
With 2 men in the break stood at less than 2'30 behind the GC lead, the peloton seemed keen to keep tabs on the riders up the road. ITV and Allianz-BMW took on the brunt of the early pace setting.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0006_zps2ea54434.jpg
Bochman may not have shown any spirit to attack the climbs, but never the less he's accumulated max off the first 2, bringing his total to 17points after he crested the Col de la Porte, the final climb before the TV coverage began.

Live Coverage...

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0007_zps7934b04f.jpg
Hello and welcome to Live coverage of the final stage of the 2013 Paris-Nice. A 6 man breakaway leads by 3'15" as we join the riders at the base of La Turbie, the penultimate climb of the day, whose summit sits just 40km from the finish line in Nice.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0009_zps989c04d8.jpg
This time Bochman looks serious, he puts in a dig with 1km to the summit...

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0010_zps72aba16b.jpg
And duly leads over the summit once more. He now sits just 5points behind in that competition. The break are 3'41 ahead still and there has been no action from the peloton, who seem to be enjoying a lazy day now the sun has come out on the mediterranean coast.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0011_zpsbc49d3c1.jpg
33km to ride and now ITV are stepping the pace up. They've reduced the lead to 2'38 in just 6km, so clearly they've got full faith in leader Valverde(14th, 1'07"Wink

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0012_zpsffcc1469.jpg
With 28km to go the break make there first passage of Nice and our Finish line. They face the ascent of the Col D'Eze before a fast downhill run for the finish line and honours for our race winner.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0013_zps3a6bbf94.jpg
25km... As the riders begin the famous climb, 6 men go on the offencive. Led by Valverde(ITV), he's followed by; Martin.D(Barrys), Albasini(Motorex), Rodriguez(Allianz), Sagan(IoQ) and Kloden(SGM)

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0014_zps166a2d9c.jpg
23km... The Group of 6 continue to pull away and several of the favourites realise they've missed the move. Chavanel leads a bridging attempt along with Lierse's De Gendt, Voeckler and Schleck of ING, Pinot(Caterham), Monfort(Haiaer) and Rebellin(Tulip).

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0015_zpsd5e50568.jpg
21km... As the leading favourites pass the break SGLs Andreas Kloden goes on the offencive once more. Valverde attempts to counter as the chasing group of 7 closes the gap.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0015_zpsd5e50568.jpg
21km... As the leading favourites pass the break SGLs Andreas Kloden goes on the offensive once more. Valverde attempts to counter as the chasing group of 7 closes the gap.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0016_zps9f85fe3f.jpg
Kloden passes the 20km to go barrier with a lead of 30" to Albasini and Rodriguez. They're followed at 6" by the remnants of the group, and a further 33" back come the chasing 7.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0017_zps391090b2.jpg
18km... Kloden has reached the summit of the Col D'Eze with 46" to Purito! Behind come the chasers in collections of small packs, but considering the Germans ability to TT, will he be able to make this stick?! One last hurrah for the German veteran perhaps?

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0018_zpse2bee32a.jpg
15km... Kloden still out in front and the chasers are in tiny select groups. Closest to him is Purito, shortly followed by Albasini, Sagan and Valverde, who have another 30" on the closest chasers behind.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0019_zps23d0a415.jpg
5km... Kloden has begun the flat final 5km into Nice. Purito is giving chase and has reduced the gap to 30" Whilst Albasini has dropped his rivals who are 23" behind in a group of 7.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0020_zpsb7a7229c.jpg
4km... Purito can see his rival up ahead. He has 44" over Albasini and a Minute back to a 7man group; Sagan, Pinot, Chavanel, Rebellin, Voeckler, Valverde and Schleck.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0021_zpsf341e231.jpg
2700m... Rodriguez is closing now, and has the German Vet clearly in his sights. Will Kloden hang on against Purito? Either way we seem to be looking at the top2 off the podium here, as Albasini is a minute behind the Maillot Jaune

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0022_zpsadb2f4b9.jpg
1500/1700m... Kloden seems to have hit a brick wall and the Spaniard is closing fast, can he close the gap in the final kilometre?

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0023_zps93dca14c.jpg
Behind the front duo, Albasini has been caught by the chasing group of 7. Several big names have missed the group today, including both Lierse leaders, Dan Martin, Rigo Urán, Henao and Rolland. There will be a big shake up in top 10 today!

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0024_zpsb02dad45.jpg
Victory for Andreas Kloden! He just hangs on against Joaquim Rodriguez to take the Stage victory, though the final placings are undecided, has he got enough of a gap to take the GC?!

Rodriguez crosses the line just 7" behind the SGL-Magix leader, and is awarded the same time on the stage, meaning he will claim the overall victory.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0025_zpsc009f504.jpg
Its a french sprint for 3rd, and Chavanel does enough to hold off Voeckler to take the final podium place, 14" ahead of the next group...

Lead home by Thibaut Pinot to round out the top5. Now it's just about waiting for the remaining GC contenders to see who will finish where in the standings.

Now, TMM, show me the WT rankings and make me happy Pfft

And yeah, I'm very curious for MSR now!

And Baggie, amazing reports!
You 'sucked' me right into the race, I felt the excitement while reading Pfft

And Jesl was complaining his team wouldn't get enough points with this system

4th for Chavanel is good, but it should have been better, missing out on the two moves on the last two days. Also best of the French Smile

Great ride by Rodriguez to take the win.

MSR GODDAMNIT!!!!!!

+1 to both of these. Truly great reports all race long.

Now, bring on MSR!

edit: TMM, be happy with your 4th place, Pinot is 5th with the same time as Chava... Wink
