you guys are making too much out of this. the olympics has just turned into a race of breakaways. the best riders can never win. there's never a summit finish where there's nowhere to hide and the strong riders will show themselves. the lack of team-mates and amount of small teams mean the sprinters can never have their day. so the olympics is not a race to show who is actually the best rider, but just is for a chancer who gets a nice shiny medal

I think the best rider usually wins on the day and it would be boring if the favourites won all the time.

Why to race then. lets give it to "best" rider. They planned this gold for Cav. I am more then happy that they failed. |

Yeah no-one has a 'right' to victory, no matter their physical or mental capabilities.
The element of surprise is maybe the greatest beauty of sport. |

Just finished watching the race after downloading it. Could barely stand the guy commentating on BBC. He was horrible.
Can't argue with that Vino deserved the victory though. And while I don't really like him, he's always exciting to watch.

1. Vos won.
2. LL Sanchez, Valverde, Cancellara, Menchov, O'Grady, Chavanel, Glbert, Kreuziger, Gesink and Phinney were in the break away. You're absolutely right, the best riders can never win. *sarcasm* |

Also, 4 years ago Sanchez won the olympics = strongest rider won.
8 years ago Bettini won = strongest rider won
So jsh312's argument fails. And you can't really call Cavendish the strongest rider in the race because he did nothing (logical as sprinter, but the fact remains). |

Landis leads Vinokourov tributes
Former professional rider Floyd Landis was quick to make light of Vinokourov's Olympic win. While the Daily Mail called the race winner a 'nobody' and CBS ran with the headline "Ex-doper Vinokourov wins Olympic road race", Landis contacted Cyclingnews with the following:
"If Vino says 'it's a victory for clean cycling" he'd be my hero. Alternatively if he said 'f*** every single mother******* one of you,' that would work too."
If the whole thing is rubbish, i wish Vino had said "Fuck every single motherfucking one of you", would have caused the censors a problem on live tv

I like the "victory for clean cycling" idea though.

So the Olympic race, very nice race, entertaining all the way but there are two things that ruined it for me a bit.
First is that i have never seen worse broadcast from the important race than this one. The clowns behind the broadcast should be all fired. They have four years to get ready and still fail massively. Big shame...imagine how ordinary people that dont follow cycling could know what is happening in the race, they had to be clueless without the graphics (no gaps, no names...).
Second is that team is more than nation. I know how the cycling works and that modern sport is all about money in the first place, but the Astana riders not trying to win is a bit shame for olympic spirit. And Kreuziger is so stupid (great race for him, he was very active,but..), he should be denied to make a public statements because how stupid he is. He said to the czech press open minded that it would be stupid from him to chase the team collegue and now half of the nation starts to hate him and the sport thanks to that. Real stupidity from him. At least he is not the hypocrite, but he should learn about what can be said and what not...
In the end i am happy for Vino, i like him somewhat, even after what he did to cycling earlier, but i loled on Uran fail, as he was not watching his opponent in the most important situation before the sprint and than Vino was gone.
Also Sagan is a bit sad about how the race went, he said he felt very strong, but there were others like him (Cav, Goss, Greipel). And being alone in the race, he can just wait for the others to do the work...but he has many olympics in the future to get a medal i hope.

Ah yes. The road cycling races are broadcasted by Dutch crew and it sucked, BUT I heard the Dutch commentators saying that the broadcast had to follow the Olympic Games regulations, meaning that they weren't allowed to show time differences, or names in the screen. They only thing that had to be on screen besides the race, was the olympic games logo.
So it's not really their fault.

Cancellara is in the TT
But BBC failed, they pronounced it Fay-bi-an Can-cell-er-a and instead of being on the start line for the race he will be on the finish line |

Wiggins to win the time trial easily, with Cadel pulling out and Cancellara 50/50, i cant really see anyone else with a chance |
