I think there wasn't enough Strade Bianchi in the last kms, it most of the riders aiming for the GC came back on the flat road it didn't have enough impact on the race like last year.
I think the main difference between last year and this year was not the placement of the strade bianchi but the weather. The wet conditions caused favourites like Basso and Nibali to crash last year. This year, despite the chaos, the big guys managed to stay out of trouble.
Great to see Kennaugh having a good ride! |

Surprised at Spilak. He wasn't a big favourite. But I thought he had a chance going for Top 15. He lost 10 minutes today.
He cracked Garzelli at the top of the first kickup.
Garzelli managed to hold on and finished 15 though.
A few more names:
Pozzovivo 25"
Sastre/Seeldraeyers/Tschopp 28"
Gadret 58"
Machado 3'03"
Visconti 5'16" (doesn't seem to have the form)
Popo 5'31" (bye bye)
Porte came 18'28 minutes down with Cavendish/Renshaw group. Nice achievemnt by him *claps*
According to Danish Television, Porte crashed two times during the race. That might explain some of the lost time ;-) |

Good news, I'm gonna hold my breath each time a rider stays on the floor now... People seemed to have forgotten how dangerous a sport cycling is.
It seems they're getting conscious now. Hopefully this will result in safer routes, so much for the show, but physical integrity goes first in my opinion. |

It is the first death on the road since cyclists have to wear a helmet, it is of course a dangerous sport but it's not like it often happens

Just because there hasnt been any deaths, doesnt mean there havent been other very serious injuries - Horrillo and Reus to name but two

Yeah, I'm not saying that they should really be racing on turbo trainers and not letting their heart rate get above 120 but rider safety should always be paramount.

Eye socket? How can you break an eye socket? Never heard of that before.

I think it's the piece of the skull next to the eye that is broken in such a case, but I am not sure |

I think boxers (or other fighters who wear no helmet) get that once in while, or people who're caught in car crashes, etc. |

True enough, it does happen. Danish television just said that Slagter broke his jaw, not the eye socket, however,
Which bit of information is true, I don't know. |

Happens in rugby as well. Still don't know exactly how it works.

Normally, with a cycling helmet, if you wear it properly, and unless the fall is extremely violent, you shouldn't break your eye socket. To set your helmet properly, you should be able to see the edge of it, which means it comes about 1 cm above the eye sockets. Breaking a cheek bone or a jaw is much more likely indeed. |

I've just finished to watch the stage. What a ride by Weening! He dropped Gadret without attacking didn't he? And nice to see Löfkvist doing well too, I hope he can keep it up for the 3 weeks. |

He did a bit of TT to leave Gadret and Kohler. I think he was going to be overtaken in the finish but he managed to keep his advantage. Great stuff for Rabobank who had a really moved day, badly closed by Slagter fall. |
