I really don't know how can a goalkeeper like this be the first choice to any national squad...
it's actually a bit common that this happens:
a certain goalkeeper has an enormous reputation and rarely makes mistakes. so people start hating him because he's "too good". if you do everything right and win all the time, people will hate you.
that certain goalkeeper was replaced by Ricardo. and people felt the need to justify that fact with Ricardo being good. which he isn't, but the alternative would be admiting that the previous guy was in fact extremely good, which is something a lot of people would never admit.
there's a reason the previous guy is so highly regarded internationally. he really was that good.
but Ricardo had the dumb luck to be his replacement...and that is the only reason.
I don't think I put my point across clearly enough, and I apologise for that, but I can't really think of a better way of describing it right now.
Well, if youu were talking about Baia, i don't think he was so good keeper, but he was better than this crap...
2 goals because of it...with a superb defense but a crap keeper...
I don't think he is the better portuguese keeper for now, I just think that Scolari is making with Quim what he have done with Baia...

he's considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time throughout the world for a reason. he really is that good.
he was starting for the national team at age 18. he is the man with the most trophies in the history of professional football and the only player to have ever won every competition he took part in at least once.
but it's normal that you'll think that. ask a Milan fan and they'll say Buffon is crap.

he's persisting with Ricardo because after all he's done he feels that he'll look bad if he turns back on his own decision. his ego is preventing him from making decent decisions......yet again.
BaÃa's case was different. back at the World Cup 2002, the FPF's vice-president pushed Oliveira down the stairs, then told the press "Oliveira fell when coming out of the shower. that's how he broke his leg."
Most players shut up about it because they were afraid of what might happen to them.
the only ones who dared to tell the truth were João Pinto, Jorge Costa, VÃtor BaÃa, Sérgio Conceição and Pedro Barbosa (I have a feeling I'm forgetting someone)
none of them were ever called up again.

nope, Sousa retired after that world cup. same as Costa, who in the following two years proceeded to play brilliantly.

yes, he seems smart, and tactically he makes a lot of sense. what remains to be seens is if he can motivate players. if he's able to, he might be a great manager.

Portugal 1-0 Serbia.
no matter how crap Simão has been playing, you simply cannot give him a freekick in that position. no matter how good your goalkeeper is (and Stojkovic is top class), it's suicide.

Portugal 1-1 Serbia, final score. both teams were the usual crap they've been for the last few years.
the game ended with some shameful scenes...
[Sarcasm]
Serbian athletes involved in provoking and assaulting others? surely not!!!

Denmark finally won in the EQ. We need to win the rest of the games to qualify, and yesterday the first step was taken with a 4-0 win over Lichtenstein (spelling ..). Doesn't matter much, though -- we will lose to Spain and Northern Ireland anyway. |

Well, Northern Ireland lost away at Iceland and Spain should be a fifty-fifty encounter as we somehow always play our best matches when we face the top sides. And the Spanish really have to play their chances and can't live with a draw. On paper, I actually see the match in Belfast as a more difficult task than the one in Aarhus (vs. Spain).
The two last matches should be strolls as the Liechtenstein win. It seems very optimistic to hope for EQ, but I still believe there's a chance! |

we need to beat Azerbeijan, Kazakhstan, Armenia and draw with Finland.
not difficult on paper, but nothing is below a team coached by Scolari.
France on the other hand, don't look like qualifying...which is funny.

Is the Finland match home or away?
I had really seen them beat Poland home, but... money lost!
Scotland is really the evil spirits of the French players and fans...

Armenia and Finland at Home.
Azerbaijan and whoever else, away

the fact that anyone will actually qualify from this group proves that the qualifying format simply does not work

motivationally he's a genious. tactically I've never seen anyone be as bad. it's absolutely unbelievable.
Most options by pretty much everyone are debatable. not these. these are just plain idiotic.
not to mention a manager that plays favorites with players and clubs is never going to be liked by me...
