Jakstar22
Hey sorry guys! Been really busy but I am back and still continuing this story!!!

Paris – Nice

The Day the Drugs Won

A lot of people don’t realise what drugs do to you. They basically take over your mind and just play with it till there is nothing left inside. Sometimes people have to find this out the hard way. Take Alejandro Valverde for instance. A very successful rider, he won the Vuelta and then got caught for taking drugs. He is now back, clean and better than ever but this does not always happen. Cyclists revert to drugs for 2 reasons. 1 – It helps them win in one of the hardest sports in the world...2 – It is what they need to do to ride for that specific team. Drugs are what destroy lives and in the world of a cyclist it is the only thing you should not do...EVER!!!!

Paris – Nice continues with a flat stage for the 2nd day. 186km in length including 2 sprint points and a KOM sprint.

JJ Rojas is one of the strongest sprinters in the world and is looking for a victory or 2 here. Let’s get #1 today.

The Race

The 3 man break of the day includes Proni, De Kort and Terpstra.

Terpstra won the 1st IS ahead of De Kort.

I am leading our sprint train with 5km to go. Cantwell is on my wheel and Rojas Gil on his. Ahead of us is Garmin and BMC.

1km to go and Haussler is leading with Demare on his wheel. Rojas Gil is coming up the right hand side.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%204_zps512h7wap.jpg

Demare takes the win ahead of Haussler and Nizzolo. Rojas Gil had a lot of speed but got boxed in by the FDJ rider Dumoulin. Could’ve been a great finish ended up being a 9th place.

Well Rojas Gil had great sprint speed but got boxed in by FDJ. He is not happy but he still has at least 1 more chance to get a victory. I am happy with the guys today. They did well getting Rojas Gil into position for the sprint. Great job guys!

Seeya tomorrow

Paris – Nice

Not long to go...

Only two more chapters of my book remain and it has been the most amazing experience writing this book. Looking at the extraordinary life of Nairo Quintana has opened up my eyes in many ways. Nairo Quintana wasn’t a special kid...Sure he was great on a bike but he didn’t grow up with a lot. He had a passion and wanted to follow it. Nobody knew that he would end up being the greatest cyclist the world has ever seen!! I choose to report on Nairo because there is so much more than meets the eye. He was a great person, rider and father. There will never be another rider like Nairo Quintana. He will always be a legend not only in the cycling world but in the entire world!

Another flat stage today and another chance for Rojas Gil.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsh6vjsrnk.jpg

Well the plan is the same as yesterday. Rojas was sprinting well so we will try and set him up the same way.

The Race

The leadout train with 10km to go. It was Intxausti-Me-Rojas Gil.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%201_zpsuwaeuhgn.jpg

1km to go and Rojas Gil has speed and is close to the front. Can he beat Sagan and Goss?

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%202_zpszzyyaknw.jpg

NOOO!!! He gets boxed in for the 2nd day in a row!!!!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%203_zpsvjr3hvvz.jpg

Sagan wins, Goss 2nd, EBH 3rd and the Rojas Gil who would’ve had another shot at winning a stage!!

Paris – Nice

The Final Chapter

The final chapter of my book really doesn’t relate to cycling but this book isn’t just about cycling. Nairo Quintana really was an inspiration to people worldwide! The year Nairo won the Giro has be arguably the best Giro to date! He won with class, style and just brute strength! The stage where Nairo and Ryder Hesjedal were together in the finale and Ryder didn’t let go till 1km to go on the climb. That was the stage where Nairo took control. Nairo is a fantastic Ryder and will forever and ever be remembered by the entire world and the cycling community!

Into the hills, the real race begins now.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsqkgy0zgp.jpg

I want to try to get the win but if Rojas Gil is with us in the end we will lead him out.

The Race

Le Mevel is the leader of the race. 59 seconds ahead of S.Porte and 4’06 ahead of the peloton.

The team on the front with 50km to go. We have just started the last climb.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%202_zpshn4o6stl.jpg

I was on the front leading out Rojas Gil. 5km to go and we are in a great position!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%203_zpsh7h62vk6.jpg

1km to go! I am leading. Rojas Gil has just come out of my slipstream. EBH has also started his sprint.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%204_zps96rlll5a.jpg

The overall leader EBH took the victory ahead of Rojas Gil and Goss takes 3rd.

A good finish for us. 2nd place for Rojas Gil and I finished in 7th. I’m happy with today but I didn’t gain any time on any of the favourites.

Nairo

jandal7
Nairo is a fantastic Ryder

Just like Hesjedal, no? Pfft
Solid stage from Nairo though
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

It is a kind of surprise that Nairo could finish 7th in a sprint Smile

Nairo should be feeling happier now that the mountains are here Smile

Jakstar22
Paris – Nice

The hills continue today, a lot harder then yesterday.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsbjemiibf.jpg

Today is harder then yesterday with 2 hard hills at the finish. I am hoping to get an advantage on the others today.

The Race

Pajaron is the first rider to attack today.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%201_zpsok7egcfi.jpg

Pajaron got caught with 40km to go. He goes straight on the front of the peloton to finish the catch of the breakaway.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%202_zps41yq5vnu.jpg

The 4 leaders with 5 km to go. Visconti, De Gendt, Van Garderen and Hoogerland.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%203_zpshtts9xzi.jpg

Van Garderen wins ahead of Visconti and Dumoulin.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/PN%204_zpsrx9mcllr.jpg

I am further back but still in the favourites group.

Even though I wasn’t my best I stayed with the favourites group and I’m only 4 seconds behind Froome who is my main competitor. 1 spot below me is Rojas Gil who also stayed with the favourites which was a big surprise!

Seeya tomorrow for more hills.

Paris – Nice

The last 3 days have been hell!!! Paris Nice is now finished and I’m sorry I couldn’t get you a day by day report or any pictures but it has been crazy busy! Firstly my fitness is horrible so I have been out riding trying to get it up while I’m still in France. Secondly, and this one really hurts, Chris Froome was caught doping today and has received a 2 year ban effective immediately! This is insane!!! Chris Froome doping! How??? I thought he actually cared about cycling and the image of it...I guess not. Chris keeps all of his previous titles but will now not be present in the next 2 Tour de France’s which is good for me. It gives me time to improve before he comes back and tries to challenge me again. Anyway below are the GC Rankings from the remainder of the Paris Nice. Froome is on this list but this result does not count!

I got the game working again Smile I will be continuing this story for a while into the future. Well at least to the end of this season! I hope you are all still around to follow this story!!

I would also like to thank you all for the votes and nominations for my story in the One-Rider Story of the Year award. I didn't win but I hope that next year I will have another shot at winning that title! Thank you all again for voting, nominating and of course following my story!

Milan – San Remo

The Italian monument is finally upon us. As a squad we usually do quite well in this race. Valverde won this race 2 years ago with a late attack and Rojas Gil sprinted to 2nd. Then last year, without Valverde, Rojas Gil still managed a great finish coming home in 3rd place! This year we hope to continue our fantastic run here. Valverde might be able to take another win or maybe Rojas Gil will finally get his chance for glory! Let’s wait and see!

Tour de Romandie

Coming here this year to try and get back to back victories in the Tour de Romandie. With Chris Froome not here it should be a little easier than last year but it will still be a huge challenge. I am the top favourite no doubt and I expect to where the number 1 with pride and make sure the winner of this race has to work for it, even if it is myself.

Tour de Romandie in Review

So the week of racing went pretty well. It started off with the small prologue to decide the early GC leader. Tony Martin took out the stage by 3 seconds to Luke Durbridge and a further 1 second to Alex Dowsett. I came 38th 22 seconds down which is a fairly good start! The 2nd stage brought us into a flat race which we hoped to set up Rojas Gil for the victory. However with him not in the top form we had a backup plan ready to go as well. Plan A worked to perfection and our sprinter Rojas Gil takes a fantastic victory!! Degonkolb had an early lead but was no match for the speed of Rojas Gil!

After our first victory in that flat stage it was time for me to make my move. Michael Rogers just wasn’t feeling great over the past few days and he abandons the race today after about 40km. With 91km to go in the stage we created a split going up the hill. 16 riders were in this very select group. The overall leader Tony Martin, Frank Schleck, Contador and I, Gesink and Rolland. There was 1 minute between us and the peloton.

My first move of the Tour de Romandie. Not feeling the greatest at the moment but I’m trying.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%203_zps0whfzn29.jpg

Roche took the win on stage 3. Contador sprinted too 3rd and I finished in the front group. 2 mountain stages in the next two days which is great for me! Contador and I attacking to try and counter some big moves with 50km to go in Stage 4.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%204_zpsgx6rmqyu.jpg

I missed out on the stage 4 victory by a matter of centimetres! Sanchez takes the stage and moves into the overall lead. I move into second not too far behind! We had a small lead on Rolland and Sicard and then a large gap to the rest of the riders.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%205_zpsupdq61ll.jpg

The 5th stage is the hardest. An uphill finish should sort out the top form climbers from the rest of the pack. So far it is a battle for the GC between Sanchez and I. I am only 20 seconds behind on GC and with the ITT tomorrow I want to have the GC lead tonight. I won this stage last year so I’m excited to see if I can do it again this year.

Rolland manages to out sprint me in the finale of stage 5 but only by 10 seconds. I take 2nd and have about 30 seconds on Sanchez.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%206_zpsth9tzaxu.jpg

He even managed to get a 6 second jump on me. I have to get 6 seconds back on Rolland but keep 40 seconds on Sanchez in the TT. Should be interesting...

By the time I left the start gates Thomas was coming 3rd. Tony Martin was leading ahead of Durbridge. I didn’t care about the win though. I wanted the yellow jersey.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%207_zpspziwxktx.jpg

At the first time check I was only 1 second behind Sanchez and 21 in front of Rolland. I am the leader on the road at the moment!

At the second time check still only 1 second to separate myself and Sanchez!

At the finish Sanchez kept consistent however I went too hard to early and crossed the finish line 3 minutes down on the winner Tony Martin. I feel like I won’t be taking home that yellow jersey.

Well I was right. Sanchez takes the GC win, Rolland takes 2nd 22 seconds behind and I take 3rd 1’02 behind. Not the best TT for me. Not very happy with my result but it is still a podium. The Giro starts soon and that is a big goal for me so I can’t let this bring me down.

See you all in a few days!

Giro d’Italia

The big Italian Grand Tour is here and this race is what a lot of fans call the most beautiful race in the world of cycling! I won this race 2 years ago by over 10 minutes and this year I am back to take the beautiful pink jersey once again. With the support of my best helper, Benat Intxausti, I am sure I will have plenty of back up going into the high mountains. Leigh Ridenton is here this year as our main sprinter with his right hand man, Manfred Reeker. We have young Spanish talent, Aritz Pajaron here but he is not in the best form. Hopefully he can pick some up on the way through the race. Let’s take a look at the rest of the team.

The race will definitely be a highly contested one. This is only my 4th race this season and I it is a Grand Tour. I have never done something like this before so it will be interesting how it works out. The full start list of the Giro d’Italia is below.

Now let’s get straight into stage 1.

Giro Stage 1

So the last time I was here, Rojas Gil managed to win the stage today. Hopefully Ridenton can do the same!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsjpx3els7.jpg

A hilly circuit but we won last time so the same tactics will be used and hopefully they work again!

The Race

Ridenton fell with only 25km to go! He is still in the peloton but how much energy has he lost?

With Ridenton unable to make it back up to the front Intxausti thought quickly and pushed hard! He made a gap between the peloton and Ulissi, Intxausti and I.

With 1.5km to go I was passed by Cavendish, Fernandez and Demare.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/GI%202_zpsal2jjxyl.jpg

Demare got an easy win ahead of Cavendish and Fernandez. I came in a great 6th place after I tried my first move and going into the TTT tomorrow I think I could have the pink jersey by tomorrow night!

A rather okay start to the Giro, we were hoping to set Ridenton up for the sprint and if he was up with us he would have had a great chance at taking the victory with the leadout by Intxausti! I am happy with 6th place today and I’m looking forward to the TTT tomorrow.
