EPIC - Season 1 Part 3
Ollfardh
Unlucky to miss the podium there Sad

Great report, but you might be mocking Novo Nordisk a bit too much Wink
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Well, at least we know who the luckiest EPIC participant is now. Did LLS sell his soul to the devil? Shock

The UCI can't beat us Grin
A truly fantastic ride from the mighty Miguel Rubiano and although it wasn't particularly smart it was at least nice to see Pellizotti attack and he finished 8th which is good.
Man I am on a roll at the moment Cool

Nice report there. Gratz to Androni, LLS is really on fire. Shock

Stage 2

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-21_zps59ea95af.jpg
This should be a very decisive day for the GC with the first uphill finish, though the punchers should be able to hang on. Today is about being ready and awake.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-22_zps54068d4b.jpg
First over the mountain is: Valencia (COL) ahead of Nys (CRE) and Jørgensen (TST). That puts the Colombian in the mountain jersey for tomorrow.

100 km to go and the gap from the front trio to the peloton is 2’50
Many teams are working together but BMC and Garmin – Sharp is pulling the heaviest load.

75 km and 3’55

50 km and 3’00
Karpets is the first to move in the peloton with 30 km to go. He is followed by Schleck (RLT), Parisien (ARG) and Jacobs (TSV).

20 km and the original break has 37 seconds to the four chasers who have 49 seconds to the peloton.

Garmin – Sharp brings things together with 5 km to go.

Jacobs, Karpets and Parisien have another go at it with 2,5 km to the top.

Garmin and BMC just keeps on pulling and the Russian is quickly reeled back in.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-27_zps091a4841.jpg
Jacobs and Parisien are first into the final km with a 30 second gap.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/EP-USA-28_zpse8d8ba73.jpg
Garmin just keeps on driving the train full throttle.

Parisien takes the stage while Garmin gets a lot of points for all their work.

hopefully the Vuelta finishes quickly and I can go back to reading the reports of others. I was wasn't even sure if Europcar was actually at the race

Yannick Eijssen scoring some points. That's another rider better than Steve Morabito.

Good to see the team holding things together for Jeremy Powers. J-Man himself beating the great Maxime Oget there.

@TreValli: 12th from Kakhi is not really bad considering his low MO stat, but we did kinda hope for a Top10.

@USAPCC: Waiting for a stage to shape up the GC... We'll see what Jamel can do.

This season part so far belongs to me.
Mitchell Birt finishes 6th in the GC of Osterreich Rundfahrt.
Mitchell Birt wins two stages of the Vuelta and we are only half way.
Androni has had one race being Varesine which was a Hard Win Goal and a domestique in Miguel Rubiano wins it solo from the breakaway. Breakaway seem to be the way to go at the moment.
All much needed points for the budget and the upgrades at the end of the season for both Birt and the Androni Team

Not much hassle in USA today, so good that the boys saved their legs a bit. Hoping for one or two breakaways in the coming stages then, when the chances are more solid.

Vuelta a Burgos - Stage 2 [Roa de Duero - Clunia]
i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgosstage02_zps83fa15a4.jpg

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0201_zpsecb92630.jpg

The first move of the day initiated by Adrian Kurek (CCC) was already the successful one at forming the break. The Pole was followed by Jens Debusschere (Lotto), Paolo Longo Borghini (Cannondale) and Michael Rodriguez (Colombia) who is at this time still a little further behind on the road.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0202_zps342e21bd.jpg

By the time of the first Intermediate sprint Rodriguez already reached the break and is even able to sprint to second place there, only beat by Debusschere.

Intermediate Sprint
Jens DebusschereLotto6-6"
Michael RodriguezColombia4-4"
Adrian KurekCCC2-2"

Meanwhile Longo Borghini, who didn't keep up at the sprint decided to drop back in the peloton.
Also on the second timecheck, only 4 kilometres later, Debusschere is the strongest, but this time ahead of Kurek.

Intermediate Sprint
Jens DebusschereLotto6-6"
Adrian KurekCCC4-4"
Michael RodriguezColombia2-2"

95 kilometres to go and only one intermediate sprint in the way to go and the break is 4'31'' ahead.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0203_zps28e45506.jpg

50 kilometres later it's again Debusschere taking full points on the last intermediate sprint. This time it's way closer, though than on the two occasions before. Michael Rodriguez is second.

Intermediate Sprint
Jens Debusschere Lotto 6 -6"
Michael Rodriguez Colombia 4 -4"
Adrian Kurek CCC 2 -2"

Like Hofland yesterday it's again one rider taking maximum points on every intermediate sprint.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0204_zpsa2c54b81.jpg

The break is now 2'44" ahead and the peloton is pacing hard behind. Today also Androni is included, hoping for a good result from Franco Pellizotti on the steep finish into Clunia today, that should suit him.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0205_zps2d84f146.jpg

With just above 10 kilometres to go Debusschere is reeled in as the last member of the break, after he rode away from his companions just shortly before.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0206_zps9126bd79.jpg

With 3 kilometres to go Belkin is on the front, with Van Winden preparing Mollema's final dig for the stage win today. On his wheel we see the top favourite for the overall Alejandro Valverde. Androni are leading their leader Franco Pellizotti to the front with Francesco Reda and Miguel Rubiano. Also strongly represented the team of the race leader John Degenkolb, Argos - Shimano. Indian champ Rajesh Kakhi is just behind him. Movistar's second horse Rui Costa is also looking for a good result today.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0207_zps2ebdf49f.jpg

1200 metres to go and it's Androni at the front now, after Van Winden had to pay for all the work he has done today already. Degenkolb also seems to be in a good position for his second consecutive stage win. Costa grabbed Valverde's wheel. The two riders of Europcar are Peeters and Rolland. Also yesterday's second Daniele Ratto is in contention now. After the riders in the picture there's a gap evolving, so the winner will come from them. Notably, no Euskaltel in the mix.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0208_zpscba9cfe4.jpg

After hitting the steep Degenkolb is about to overtake Pellizotti, who was the first to enter the wall of up to 10 %.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0209_zps204179fe.jpg

200 metres to go and Degenkolb can already think about a celebration to perform today. Pellizotti still in second, but Peeters and Valverde are hitting the front now. Also still in the mix several of Degenkolb's helpers.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0210_zpsae5051df.jpg

Win in the yello jersey for John Degenkolb. Pellizotti gains bonus seconds for the overall as second. Thomas Peeters comes third. Valverde misses the podium once again very close. Fifth and Sixth go to two of the helpers of todays winner Oreste Ghita and Simon Geschke.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/Epicburgos/Burgos0211_zpsc235de10.jpg

After the 14th Miguel Rubiano and the 15th Domenico Pozzovivo there is a gap of 13 seconds. Which means the riders of the second group lost 32 seconds today, which can be deciding concerning the final outcome of the race.

Interesting gap there, might be useful later on!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

mvhoogdalem
Damn.. bad positioning from Ratto in that group. Smile

nacho63
Great leadout, and easy finish for Degenkolb Cool

Luis Leon Sanchez
Great work from Epllizotti to get a second amd also gaining bonus seconds on the other GC riders. Looking pretty good for a Top 5 GC at the moment.
