Hmmm, nothing from Gilbert and De Gendt all day, a bit disappointing.
Maybe because the mo/hill ratio ....
Phil is going to have a very hard time in the next stages then, 7km more climbing in both next days, with Col d'Eze multiple times in the last stage, I think.

Albasini is best of the rest, again
By the way, does a team get points for wearing mountain/points jerseys? If so, that would really come handy to Motorex, we are in almost every breakaway

That means, for every stage you lead the classification you get points?

That explains why Motorex is in the middle of the rankings and not on the bottom

A difficult day today, 31km of climbing, with slopes of up to 16% on occasion. The stage will be hard fought, and the weather doesn't look set to be the riders friend here, very cold, and very very wet.
David Harmon: These conditions will make the day well suited to a hard man, My choice is Sylvain Chavanel whose focus has always been more on the cobbled classics. He will be there or thereabout at the finish in my opinion.
Sean Kelly: Todays stage needs a strong climber with a kick to finish. For that reason I'm going with Peter Sagan for the stage win.
Magnus Backstedt: I can't see the riders wanting to push it too hard today, the conditions and difficulties enroute will lend themselves to a breakaway in my opinion, though it's a hardy rider that goes out in a break today.
Pietropolli had one intention this morning, Attack. With less than 40m of the stage gone, the Italian took benefit from his starting position to dive into a breakaway.
The day looked likely to be decisive for the KotM contest, with 9 categorised climbs. The breakaway consisted of 9 riders; Pietropolli(ING), Medina(AGT), Schierlinx(CCC), Phinney(PGR), J.Moreno(Caterham), Carllstromm(ITV), Westra(TAP), Bakelants(Lierse) and Traksel(Haiaer), Later to be joined by Angel Madrazo of Motorex.
Only Pietropolli and Westra showed interest in the intermediate sprint this morning, and of the two, its was the ING rider who was quickest.
This morning saw a succession of 4 cat2 climbs, the first was taken by Javi Moreno of Caterham, just ahead of Bakelants and Westra.
At the second just 7km later, Pietropolli was in no mood to take prisoners. He jumped away to take a convincing victory on the climb as the lead stretched to 8'40 with 110km to ride.
Allianz wasted no time getting riders to the front of the pack this morning, picking up the tempo with over a 100km to ride.
The points continued to be shared amongst the break as they got to number 3 of the 4Cat2's. This time Bakelants was fastest, with Moreno having to settle for second, giving the Caterham riders the provisional mountain ranking, with 5climbs left on the stage.
3 new players atop the next of the summits, Medina of AGT decided he wanted to get involved ahead of the days hardest climb, beating Charteu(Motorex) and Schierlinx(CCC)
The constant climbs began to take there toll on the riders as we got into the final 80km, the break began to desintegrate with both Moreno and Traksel getting dropped on the climb, won by Pietropolli once again. Now it's time to turn attention towards the live footage, you join us on the Col De Bourrigaille(1).
Bonjour et Bienvenue á Le course au Soleil! Sadly we're still without sun and the riders are making there way along a horrendously cold wet day. The temperature in Brignoles this morning was just 2degrees centigrade, and we've had rain since the very first pedalled was pushed today. 97men remain in the peloton 5minutes behind our 10man breakaway, and as you can see, it's Rodriguez' Allianz-BMW team who are doing the work at the moment.
Pietropolli does it again! He's been climbing well this afternoon despite the horrendous conditions, and has moved into the provisional KotM as a result. Just 2more climbs on offer today, the break sit 4'40 ahead with 59km to ride
Several teams have joined in the chase with 43km to ride. The break hold 3'43 over the 86men who remain. The peloton are still enjoying a pretty relaxed day, and despite the amount of climbing so far already, we've not seen a pedal pushed in anger by the favourites.
Attack by Alejandro Valverde! The Spaniard sees the gap to the break not reducing and clearly wants to take advantage of the slow pace in the peloton. The question is has he overestimated his skills, going with 30km still to ride?
24km... With Valverde managing to slowly open a gap, Lierse decide to send one of there duo-leaders to try and bridge to him. De Gendt is the next man to attempt a breakaway.
22km... The favourites are off in chase. A 7man group is forming lead by GC leader Purito. Included are: Albasini, Sagan, Martin.T, Schleck, Pinot, and Féderigo.
Chavanel realises he's missed a big move and is the next to try and get across. Behind him comes Rebellin whilst GC 3rd; Kloden, still sits in the peloton hoping it will come back together.
A desperate chase from the peloton is shedding riders all over the place, and some big names are being caught out, Most notably Sergio Henao of CCC, and Po-Ding Kim of AGT
20km to the line... The breakaway, along with De Gendt and Valverde have reached the summit of the days last climb. 59" back follows Group Rodriguez, whilst the peloton with at 1'48".
15km... Médina of AGT is trying to get away from his companions in the break on the descent. The breaks lead has reduced to just 35" over Purito's Group, but the peloton it still 1'30 behind. led by Martin.D and Kloden
12km.. The breaks have joined and 21men sit infront of the peloton, who've reduced it to a minute. The question now is to whether the engines in the break are willing to work up front.
10km... Still 50" remain of the lead with just 10km to ride. Sagan and Rodriguez are setting pace in the break, and now we see several more riders trying to get across solo, most recently A.Vinokourov
6500m... Attack by Tony Martin. With 48" remaining it's looking good for this 20man group, Can Martin dive away and then put his TT skills to use against the pack?
3900m... Der Panzerwagon has opened a gap behind him, despite the best efforts of Schleck and Albasini who are trying to join him out in front. Behind the groups seem to be coalescing once more, will the effort of there attack be wasted?
1500m... The peloton are 14" behind the leading collection, but it's all about Tony Martin at the moment! He still holds almost 20", has he kept enough in the tank to finish the job?
600m... They're closing fast, can he hang on... Sagan and Pinot are chasing from behind and the German looks empty
There's a mistake with the Startline! Despair for Martin who must have thought he'd done enough, only to find the actual finish about 100m further back! Sagan has passed him in a cruel cruel twist!
And Sagan takes it in a highly confused finish. The chasing pack are awarded the same time as the leading group despite a 10" gap at the finish line, meaning Sagan won't take over the leadership this evening.

Pietropolli, you are a hero!
Nice to see Voeckler & Schleck still doing great. 8 + 9th in the GC, well, that's not awesome or something, but those are points!

Great effort from De Gendt & Bakelants, while Gilbert manages to keep his top 10, so I'm happy
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Still waiting for Sylvain to make his move...
Great stage though, full of drama over the final third! Also the Race to the Sun isn't getting any sunnier
