I don't get why people do always assume that a rider is stupidly mistaken when he celebrates but isn't winning. Specially because nowadays it is almost impossible not to know there are riders who haven't been caught yet and, additionally, the bunch was pretty close to Bertogliati. Hondo could have been happy for getting a place in the podium.

Well Hondo said in an interview afterwards, that he didn`t know there were still 2 in front. He thought that the group around Tschopp was the leading group.
So because of the fact that the were able to see Bertogliati it is quite strange that he didn`t know. |

If that is the case, I stand corrected. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm so happy for Matt Lloyd. He just sat too much in the shadow last years. He fully deserved it. |

We'll need to change his PCM stats then.

Weening could be the surprise of this giro. He has looked really strong so far. Go Weening and go Mollema |

Just checking out the GC after this stage, very interesting weekend ahead:
1 Nibali
2 Basso a 13
4 Vino a 33
5 Karpets a 39
9 Gerdemann a 1.04
11 Weening a 1.15
12 Rohregger a 1.16
16 Evans a 1.59
17 Pinotti a 2.01
20 Sastre a 2.13
21 Scarponi a 2.35
23 Garzelli a 2.49
25 Arroyo a 3.34
26 Cunego a 3.45
31 Wiggins a 4.36
32 Cioni a 4.49
Looking at tomorrows stage a sense an attack from Pozzato - but maybe Evans (ex mountain biker) may have a go?
I agree about Weening - I recall his attack on a stage in the Basque country - always thinking this guy is possible grand tour top 10 contendor. |

If you mention Weening you might as wel mention Mollema (22) he is Rabo's team leader actually.
I do think Weening is going to fail in the high mountains, like he always does. Good guy, but no GT top 10 material

If he really thought he won, he must be stupid. They had Bertogliati like 100m in front of them.
He later told the press he thought there were no riders in front of the peloton...

Apparently Petacchi's spent the last few weeks on antibiotics for bronchitis.
In other words, Farrar and Henderson are the only decent sprinters who are actually healthy.
So it should come as no surprise that Farrar is well on his way to a points' jersey

Well seeing how little points the sprinters gather I wouldn't be surprised to see Basso or whoever turns out to be the stronger rider in the mountains winning it. Vino perhaps.

Given the original startlist, this is very, very disappointing

From Cadel Evans:
The main attack was made by Bertogliatti, just as Nibali in the pink jersey stopped for a call to nature - certainly not a well accepted act.

Well we shall see about the sprinters, after this weekend I would say 4 out of the 5 midweek stages (probably not wednesday) look like ones for a sprint at the end.
It depends really on how confident Garmin/Sky/Columbia/Lampre are on chasing the breaks down.
I note its bye bye Bruseghin and Capecchi not really surprising given that both were clearly suffering. More may be gone after today any rain around? |

I`m quite interested to see Uran in the mountains. If he fails there, it would be a disappointing Giro for Caisse |

Arroyo is still within 4 minutes isn't he? He is surely the captain.
