Xavi Hernández, 27, is line to make his 250th league appearance for FC Barcelona this weekend, a milestone that only few players reach

Barça and Atlético have come to an agreement for the transfer of Motta to the ‘Mattress makers’. Barça will make 1 million € for the federative rights to the Italian-Brazilian and will receive 2 more if the player stays it the following season.

ouch.

could be worse. you could have to win your next two home games to go through. or you could have a horrible goalkeeper that once cost you, among other things, the final of a European Championship (I wonder who I'm talking about Pfft)

I really don't know how can a goalkeeper like this be the first choice to any national squad...

it's actually a bit common that this happens:

a certain goalkeeper has an enormous reputation and rarely makes mistakes. so people start hating him because he's "too good". if you do everything right and win all the time, people will hate you.

that certain goalkeeper was replaced by Ricardo. and people felt the need to justify that fact with Ricardo being good. which he isn't, but the alternative would be admiting that the previous guy was in fact extremely good, which is something a lot of people would never admit.
there's a reason the previous guy is so highly regarded internationally. he really was that good.

but Ricardo had the dumb luck to be his replacement...and that is the only reason.

I don't think I put my point across clearly enough, and I apologise for that, but I can't really think of a better way of describing it right now.
