it's actually a bit common that this happens:
a certain goalkeeper has an enormous reputation and rarely makes mistakes. so people start hating him because he's "too good". if you do everything right and win all the time, people will hate you.
that certain goalkeeper was replaced by Ricardo. and people felt the need to justify that fact with Ricardo being good. which he isn't, but the alternative would be admiting that the previous guy was in fact extremely good, which is something a lot of people would never admit.
there's a reason the previous guy is so highly regarded internationally. he really was that good.
but Ricardo had the dumb luck to be his replacement...and that is the only reason.
I don't think I put my point across clearly enough, and I apologise for that, but I can't really think of a better way of describing it right now.
