Tour de France - Stage 10
This is a brutal mountainstage, we're hoping to take some time on the likes of Schleck and Fothen who are our immediate competition. Sanchez has to be at his best today! I'll admit i botched his training a little bit as he's still not peaking(96) but it should be enough. If he fels good today, we could do really good!
93km out and Rabobank/Silence Lotto are in control. We're coming close to the Tourmalet now! A few breakaways are out in front of the peleton. At the very front are Hejsedal, Rodriguez and Marzano.
12km to the top for the breakaway. At 8.4%, 12km to go, and then the Hautacam these guys must be wondering if this was such a good idea by now.
3,9km to the top. Rabobank are setting the pace, it's not very high yet, and the finish will probably end up being very tough!
The top of the Tourmalet! It's that man Moreau again, he must be out of his mind!
The pack has upped the pace and we're suffering a bit now.
We're into the downhill. The pack is still relatively large as the pace wasn't that high untill the end of the climb. Galparsoro will be able to bring us the last bottle of water before Hautacam.
Bottom of the descent and the trio in front has the last climb in sight.
Pereiro, Soler and Moreau attack on the flat before the climb. Rabobank and Lotto still have 4 strong riders to work in the peleton!
Bottom of the Hautacam, Fothen is attacking early! Sanchez contemplates going with him for a few seconds but a quick glance at the Rabobank riders up front changes his mind.
12.4km to the top. Leipheimer goes on the attack! Sanchez chugs down some energy gel and puts himself behind Evans.. This will be tough!
Sanchez attacks! Menchov goes with him but comes up a little short. Sanchez makes it to the wheel of Leipheimer but he's feeling it now! With 7.2km to go it doesn't look good!
Sanchez has to let go of Leipheimer as the pace was just too high. Menchov attacks again and from out of nowhere comes Evans. And he just keeps on going! He looks very strong!
3,3km to go for Leipheimer, Evans and Menchov. Behind them are Soler and Sanchez trailing by 30 seconds roughly.
Sanchez has to limit his effort as he is really hurting now. The favorites have really hit him hard today. Schleck and Klöden are about 20 seconds behind Sanchez but he's keeping them at bay, they're not gaining on him.
At the front Evans attacks again! That's his 3rd attack on the Hautacam, the man is a freak! Leipheimer is close behind and after him, Menchov by a few lengths.
And it's Evans! What a ride by the Australian! He's is certainly living up to his status as a favorite. So are Leipheimer and Menchov for that matter. They were too strong for us today and well lose a fair amount of time to them.
Sanchez crosses the line in 5th and takes a little time on Andy Schleck. Markus Fothen is even further behind and we'll come within seconds of him today! Top5 is almost a reality!
Reaction
Mixed feelings today i'd say. We're coming really close to our goal, and i think Sanchez did fantastic today. However we had hoped we'd be able to sit with the top favorites to the top. Sanchez tells me he's gonna get even better before we get to the alps, so we're hoping for a bit better results in the mountains there.
Now, it's a rest day and then 4 relatively flat stages. Where we can relax a bit and save our stregth for the alps.

Hehe, you guys are awesome. All the positive response is really making it worthwhile posting this stuff. The reason i post fast when i do is because i simply can't wait for the next big thing you know. So when people ask for upddates it just makes me smile, it's like a pad on the back
And no need to thank me at all. You guys may be enjoying the read, but i'm having more fun playing it than you guys are reading it for sure |

great story Mads!!!
And those pics from stages are simply increadible, too.
Sanchez is looking good at this point, but like you said he's still not in his best shape. I think we can count on his great ride in the third week of the race. He has got big chances for podium.
Contador is a big surprise for me. I thought that he would fight with Evans for a win in the Tour, but so far he is weak, and we don't see him fighting in the mountains. Astana has different plans for him, i guess |

Tour de France - Stage 11
Someone categorized this stage as flat but there's actually a decent climb towards the end of it. If the situation allows it, Sanchez could try one of his trademark downhill attacks in the last few km.
A group of 9 broke away today. Most notably Karsten Krron and Fabian Wegmann. At 84km they hold a 8'46 advantage over the peleton. This one could make it! The peleton have upped the pace a little, but are still not going really fast.
43km. The peleton has upped the pace now, and we're coming onto the hill.. which is more like a small mountain. Contador, Bettini and a few others have broken away just before the climb.
5,5km to the top and it's really starting to hurt. Popovych and Dekker are giving it everything they've got and noone can attack at this pace!
At the top of the climb we can breathe a little again. 30km of downhilling down to the line. Kroon and Wegmann are alone in front now, but the gap is small.
14.1km to go and only Kroon and Wegmann are left out front. Sanchez is feeling good and will definately make an attempt at something here!
While Sanchez is like a fish in water on the downhill Rubiera seems to have gotten in an argument with his bike and the road, and he's not winning at the moment.
8,9km to go, If Sanchez is to try something this is the time! He chugs down his gel and goes to the front.
And he's off! With 3100m to the line noone could hang on to the daredevil as he raced down the last bit of slope. Wegmann and Kroon couldn't believe it as they're passed so close to the line!
Sanchez! Second stagewin for the downhill maestro! Pereiro is attempting an attack in the last stretch also and might get in front of the escapees. More importantly, that looks like a gap big enough for a time difference!
Pereiro edges out Kroon for 2nd spot. But Sanchez will gain a bit of time on everyone today. This will put him in 5th in the GC!

I don't think he's in shape for the tour. Either that or he's just been demoted to helping Leipheimer. He's not been very visible at all.. i'm gonna have my hands full with him in the Vuelta i bet |

I know that a top 5 finish in Le Tour is your main goal for the whole season; however, don't pass up the opportunity to win both the Green and Polka Dot Jerseys. |
