Nairo Quintana - 2016
Jakstar22
Thankyou guys!!!Thanks for your continual following!!! Updates have slowed done as you have noticed. This is because I am up to date and have to race whenever I update my story. I will be continuing this so don't be alarmed when I don't update!!

Tour de San Luis

The 4th stage of the Tour de San Luis is a TT. I am 3rd overall only 12 seconds behind but I am not the strongest TT rider. Froome is here and is a lot stronger in this discipline then I am. I’m expecting him to gain time on me today.

Let’s limit my losses.

Now 9th overall 1 minute behind Froome. I definitely had a better ride today. The problem is Froome is very hard to get time back on, especially in only 2 or 3 stages. It will be a very hard finally to the race!

Seeya
Nairo

Tamijo
May be hard to win, down with a minute, but aiming for a podium may be possible.

Its only a minute, anything is possible Wink

Thanks guys!! Next stage should be up later today hopefully but will have to see

Tour de San Luis

We enter the 5th stage of the Tour de San Luis. The first and only mountain stage today here in Argentina. I am 9th overall 1 minute behind Froome and I need something special today to close that gap.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsyjtpyzmg.jpg

Today I need to attack hard. Froome doesn’t what’s coming to him!

The Race

Amador and I move to the front of the peloton at the start of the final climb. Only 23km left in the race!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%201_zps5muaexsq.jpg

20 km to go and I am with Froome and Krueziger. We are 1’07 behind Uran. Only 1.6km of the climb left.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%202_zpsvlgqxlwk.jpg

I attacked and got 40 seconds on Froome but he is riding hard! I caught up to Uran with Krueziger with me.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%203_zpslo3nvkmp.jpg

3km to go and I have given up for today. I am just going to try sprint for victory.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%204_zpsrl5t0h50.jpg

I open my sprint with 1km to go.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%205_zpselmmersl.jpg

Well I held on for victory ahead of Froome. I gained some time in time bonuses today.

I have moved up to 5th overall 52 seconds behind with 2 stages remaining. I still have a very good chance of winning this race. Especially considering that it is a hill stage tomorrow and I am a lot stronger at hills then Froome.

Seeya then

Tour de San Luis

Froome and Quintana – The Rivalry

So as some of you may know the whole Froome and Quintana rivalry wasn’t always there. Nairo Quintana and Chris Froome were actually very good friends at one point. The year of 2015 was the year they decided that peace is needed. They put their differences aside and they just rode their bikes as 2 people who loved one sport. That was the year that the passion that goes into cycling changed. Cycling isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life. Froome and Quintana knew this and they started a campaign. This campaign changed the face of cycling. New sponsors came and old sponsors went. Some people didn’t agree with this campaign but a lot of people did. Froome and Quintana became very good friends after this. Their campaign spread quickly and grew bigger! However, not all good things last. This image is from the Tour de San Luis 2016. It has stayed with us all these years as one of the best photographs ever taken in the history of cycling. This photo tells a story. A story that you might get told one day if you stick around.

The final hill stage and the final stage that actually matters in this race. I need 52 seconds on Froome which will be a hard task but it can be done.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpspjsczcfs.jpg

I need to get around 40 seconds on Froome and then make sure he doesn’t finish in the podium. If I get 40 seconds plus win that is enough time to steal the yellow jersey right off his back!

The Race

Ridenton is the first rider to attack today. He is going for the points.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%201_zpsq8pjlvhx.jpg

The breakaway includes Ridenton, Sprick, Cousin, Baldieri and Locatelli.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%202_zps92uyhv6o.jpg

Ridenton takes both of the Intermediate Sprint points.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%203_zpsu2xqp33h.jpg

Its the breakaway that stays away. Locatelli takes the victory.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%204_zpsa6ntfj4z.jpg

I have been caught a bit behind Froome today. I tried hard to catch up but I feel I lost a bit of time.

Nairo Quintana – His Hero

Everybody has a hero, somebody you look up to, somebody that you can go up to whenever you want and get advice. Nairo Quintana had a hero just like everybody else. You’d think it would be his father, mother, maybe even coach or his best friend. However, it was actually his younger brother Dayer Quintana. When interviewed on this topic Nairo said “When Dayer was little he was a fighter. When something went wrong in his life or he got hurt he’d get straight back up and keep his eyes on where he wanted to be, not where he just was.” It turns out that one day Dayer got in a fight and Nairo was there to witness it. Dayer got hit so many times that he broke 4 of his bones (left arm, left collarbone and 2 ribs). However, this didn’t stop Dayer at all, Nairo said that straight after the fight Dayer got up and walked all the way home only to collapse at the door at his mother’s feet. Dayer really is a fighter and still is today. Remember that stage of the Tour de Suisse he won from the breakaway by keeping distance between him and Spartacus? Well that is the best example I have for you. Dayer Quintana is Nairo Quintana’s hero!

This is the final day of the Tour de San Luis. It is a flat stage for the sprinters like Trentin and Ridenton. Today we would like to get Ridenton’s first victory of the season and get him a successful start. I am in 3rd overall 1’08 behind. I might try to get some time bonuses and move up to 2nd.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsynaxxm4w.jpg

Get the win for Ridenton is the plan today.

The Race

The break of the day included Sprick, Commeyne, Hermans, Baldieri and Moinard. They have 6’52 with 124.8km left to go.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%201_zpsubgy8jkd.jpg

A lead out train by us is leading at the moment. Amador-Castroviejo-Me-Ridenton. The breakaway still has just over 2 minutes. Only 12km to go.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/SL%202_zpsen888thg.jpg

Sprick takes the win! Great victory for Europcar!

Ridenton is running out of energy and dropping back.

Colbrelli beat Trentin in the sprint for 6th. Ridenton came outside the top 10.

Well we didn’t get Ridenton the win or the green jersey. I finish 3rd overall though which is a great effort!! The team did well for the season opening race for most of us. Let’s hope I can continue my form like this. I am doing all 3 Grand Tours this season so it will be very hard!

Paris - Nice

Paris – Nice is here once again. This 8 day stage race is one of the biggest and most exciting races on the calendar. A very strong bunch or riders always show up here to fight for the yellow jersey. The next 8 days will be very exciting!!

Stage 1 of Paris – Nice is a 4.6km flat prologue.

Rohan Dennis is one of the best TT riders here so could do well. I just don’t want to lose much time on the other GC riders.

27 seconds is not too bad, I can come back from that in the hills. Wiggins won the stage so he will be a strong and hard rider to beat.
