What an awesome day for Katusha!
Well done by Rodriguez and Spilak in fifth! Moreno in 15th could have been better but I think that's still okay
Disappointing race for Kakhi though.. |

Fantastic race report Selwink. And what a race for Katusha.

Great to see Hermans (23rd) was the first to attack on the stage.
The tactic of bringing Cancellara here .... didn't pay off.
After Voigt crashed .....
We can only hope the road isn't too damaged! |

Vuelta a Pais Vasco Stage 6
The final stage of the Vuelta a Pais Vasco features the deciding individual time trial, and it will not be nice to the specialists. There are a couple of tough hills, and the favorite to come out with the overall win is Alberto Contador, but Costa could surprise.
The Race
The best early time was set by Czech Time Trial Champion Jan Barta, who came in with a time of 36 18.
The Cezch stayed on top for a while, but he was beaten by Mic Rogers, who finished with a time of 35 25. This was a time that would certainly be tough to beat.
The Australian was only beaten by two riders in the stage, and one of them was Pole Michal Kwiatkowski. The points competition leader rode a blistering time of 35 17.
One of these three men will almost certainly win the Vuelta a Pais Vasco, most say that Contador will take the prize, but the other two have surprised all week. The GC battle comes down to simply who can ride the 24 km course the fastest.
Shonak predicated a good ride Koing today after yesterday's top 5, but he will certainly disappointed with this performance.
At the check, Contador is 30 seconds up on Kiserlovski, and 28 seconds up on Moreno. However, Costa has made up 24 seconds of his 51 gap to Contador, and Moreno and Kiserlovski are in danger of missing out on the podium!
Rui Costa has put in a great performance today, finishing with a new best time at 35'07. The others must finish at 35 58 to keep a spot on the podium.
Robert Kiserlovski has most likely lost his podium spot, as he comes in 1 28 back of Rui Costa.
As Contador hits the line, the clock stops at 35 38! Which will be enough to win the Vuelta a Pais Vasco barring an amazing comeback from Moreno over the second leg of the course.
Moreno hits the line with a time of 36 33, which puts him on the podium by only two seconds over Kiserlovski, and Alberto Contador takes the Vuelta a Pais Vasco.

13th Overall for Franco :/ He didn't do enough attacking...
Shalunov with a solid performance in the time trial to finish 35th in the GC which is pretty decent considering his bad day yesterday.

Uuuuhhh, 10s short of stage and TOP10. We were very unlucky with that crash, because Kwiatek obviously had legs for GC.
Die hard fan of Tom Boonen and Quickstep since 2004.

Thanks for the nice reports, Welker! Are you still good to do Fleche?
GC was very disappointing for me, 12th and 14th aren't good enough.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Updated rider ranking. Sagan remains in the lead, but a bad Roubaix sees Boonen coming close. Vanmarcke gets into the top 3 after a great classic season, but his season is pretty much over now. Purito is 6th already, with 2 Ardennes classics to come.

Patience, young one. Or I'll dock OPQS 500 points to make things more interesting again
Quick Step still holds a comfortable lead. Despite 750 points in Paris-Roubaix alone, Belkin can't come closer. Sky is even further back. BMC keeps climbing, while RadioShack drops a bit after some disappointing classics. Contador gives Saxo a boost and Katusha is solidly scoring as well. Down below, NetApp continues its revival, how far can they get this season?

Amstel was really devastating for us... And in País Vasco the only thing we had was a 2nd in the KOM.
We're really looking forward to the coming events since we must get some results now! |
