Next on my calendar was Volta Ciclista a Catalunya (WT).
With no flat stages there, I gave my sprinters some rest. Here's my startlist for this tour.
Coca-Cola
Chris Barton
Maciej Bodnar
Josep Cardo
Jonathan Castroviejo
Jonathan Monsalve
Arkadiusz Olszewski
Pierre Roland
Alen Sterbal
My strategy for this race was KoM for Chris Barton, and highest possible place in GC for Pierre Rolland.
Barton did his part on day 1, winning first categorized climb, and being second on the second one.
With 21 km to go one of the race leaders - Alberto Contador attacked, but I took over the peloton pace, and ruined his chances for a win.
It ended up with a mass sprint finish, and for a moment I thought I'm gonna win it with Rolland, but I celebrated to fast, as he was overtook by Enrico Battaglin from Katusha Team.
Anyway 2nd place is still a good start for the team, and Pierre Rolland.

It makes me sad that CCC is no longer Polish, and no longer has Polish squad majority...

NTTHRASH - well it's not CCC anymore, it's not Polish anymore, so there's no need to have Polish majority, or any Polish riders for that matter, and missing them is bit like missing carriages - life goes on, and you need fast cars instead to win some races nowadays, plus I still keep few of them, and search for new Polish talents, because of the fondness for my team origin, plus I'm Polish myself, so kind of feel obligated to sign them. |

Yeah, I know it isn't CCC, but to me, it always is a thing of mine to keep true to the team's roots.

And that's what im trying. In fact team is American now, but there's only 1 more American than Polish... however that's mainly because I don't really care that much about keeping my squad American. |

Day 2 in Catalunya.
Barton got only 6 out of 24 mountain points, but that was enough to give him lead in KoM ranking - 10 points ahead of Alberto Contador.
With 11 km to go Contador and Guibelalde were holding 36" lead to 6-man E2, where Cardo and Rolland were. They were caught 4,5 km before the finish line, and stage win was to decide between 8 best puncheurs. Rolland did pretty average, finishing 5th, while Cardo came last in that group.
Win went to Rui Costa who was just above Nibali and Mollema.
So after 2 days Barton has some lead in climbers classification, and Rollan is 4th with only 4 sec loss to Costa.

A day for climbers in Catalunya.
Also a day for KoMs, and it has to be said Chris Barton took all advantage of it, snatching massive 57 out of 62 points, and practically securing the red jersey.
On last 8 km - Vicenzo Nibali launched the attack. 500 m later Mollema and Contador responded. They were counter attacked by Pierre Rolland, but Italian was to strong for them. He won with solid lead, Rolland came 2nd, Contador 3rd, and Mollema 4th.
That good performance from Rolland gave him 2nd place in GC with 40" lead to Mollema and Contador.

Stage 4 - nearly 200 km long trip from Tremp to Asco.
Wasn't really bothered with collecting mountain points, but I felt bit tempted when peloton was reaching second climb, and breakaway group was holding 4' lead. I caught up with them, Barton joined E1, but he was too tired to win it.
On second one he did even worst, so he ended up with no points, but with 3 stages to go, he still holds 48 points lead to Contador.
El Pistolero himself attacked first - on final climb, 27 km before the finish line, but 5 km later he was back in peloton.
On the peak Mollema launched attack, and he was countered by Contador, but they were also caught. After that I decided to make a move. Again it was my Spanish - French duet.
Castroviejo took all the wind, and just when he was tired out Rolland launched the attack, while Cardo stayed in peloton. My climber also wasn't strong enough to win with peloton, and was eventually absorbed, but Cardo, who stayed in peloton for all those attakcs, and saved some energy did quite well, as he came 3rd. Win went to Nibali, who was in great form.
Rolland finished 15th, and kept his 2nd in general.
