In my story Joker Merida was given a wildcard to Tour Down Under with Simon Clarke as the only reason I could find as to why, so I wouldn't rule it out quite yet

You need a proper leader or two if you want to get promoted I think CQ-ranking sums up the score of your 7 best highest scoring riders, so if you have 7 riders capable of winnings tours and one day races and spread them out over the course of the season, focusing on the races you have a chance of winning, you'll get promoted easily. I.e. Chainel might be able to get a top 20 in Paris-Roubaix, but if he's fit a top 5 in Dwaars von Vlaanderen or Omloop het Niewblad is conceivable and will give you more points, and the same goes for say Vuelta vs Usa Pro Cycling Challange.
I'm not expert but that how I did it with my custom team and I got back to back promotions
I know most of this, but I'm not aiming for promotion yet. I'm just letting my talents develop atm, and settling halfway the CQ ranking(if you only look at the PCT teams).
Groenewegen will be a proper sprint leader later on, Olivier has the potential to be able to Top 10(maybe Top 5) a GT later on, and De Bie can maybe even win a big cobbled race later.
I've made my team with that in mind, I've selected some big talents at the start on purpose
And a certain Dutch young stage-racer from Amersfoort with definitely a huge lot of potential has a contract running-out at the end of the season. Guess who's at the top of my short-list?
Spoiler
Kelderman
@Atlantius Hope you're right. Joker Merida

Kelderman was 2nd in Catalunya (+1 behind Kwiat )
Uran and Henao 7th and 9th in Vasco
Sagan 3rd in E3 and GW, 5th in RVV and finally 2nd in PR... grrr
Various other .HC and .1 wins aswell in a nicely rolling season.
Also OPQ is soooooooooooooooooooo good....
Cancellara AVG80, Boonen AVG80, Kittel AVG80, Kwiatkowski AVG79, Costa AVG78, Van Avermaet AVG78, Terpstra AVG77 is just the flaming start!!!
8th April they have already clocked up 29wins!!!!!!
I can be a bit too methodical at times. Your way seems enjoyable though!
I had a surprise in my 2nd season with Lampre-Merida. Luca Wackermann was developing like crazy and I decided to try and go for the KOM jersey with him in Ciclista Catalunya. I sent him out on 2 breakaways and in the last one I had him race up all the hills and caught the peleton out. Look what happened

Just finished Dauphne with Cannondale and I have never been so happy and so frustrated.
Sponsors wanted a win so Basso was on top form but he fell on the first stage. So he took it easy to lose time and won a stage from breakaway and took Kom jersey. Then he won 2nd to last stage from a breakaway and rised to 2nd in general (Contador crushed everyone and was leading Basso with 4 min) with last hilly stage to go.
So imagine my disapointment when on the last hill, Basso just started going backwards in the bunch and fell out of top10. Gerdeman won me the stage from the breakaway but what a frustrating failure
Very quick catch up on Vodafone and our battle with OPQS...
3 Stage wins in the Giro, with Henao and Aru in the Top10. Lost the KoM on the final mountain stage though which sucked... Vastly outscored OPQS to close the gap
Great Dauphine with 4 stage wins, Point and Youth with 3rd for Kelderman... closing us further into OPQS
Suisse was alright, 2 stage wins and a Top10 from Cataldo... Costa won so opened the gap back up a bit
5 ITT NC's and 1 RR NC with a lot of 2nds and 3rds...
Stage 4 of the Tour (2013 route), 2 stage wins... One of which came from the TTT, lead over the line by none other than Chelyakov (i cannot explain how he does it! it makes no sense, the guy is a magnet for GT success)
Already signed 3 U23 riders. 2 Punchers and a Fighter... all ok nothing special
Losing Cataldo, Henao, Kiriyenka and Sutton
And just signed Van Garderen and Grivell-Mellor as well
Started a carreer with Saxo-Tinkoff Bank the other day and is going pretty well. First TDU, where CA Sorensen won, with 3 stage wins, KOM and points jersey. Then in Tirreno-Adriatico, Contador with a breakway would win it.
Lately, in MSR, i got 2nd with Bennati. Shame i didn't won (Avermaet was stronger), but he was blocked when started his sprint, so... now in Catalunya, i have to make top 3. First two stages i got nothing better than top 10.
But in the only mountain stage, i got my leader, Roche, in a +5 day and he just blew everyone. Won the stage + general classification, with 13' over Horner. Still 3/4 stages, but hilly. Hope i can win it.
So, just started my first custom team career in PCM12 in April(with pcmdaily database). 0,5 develop, hard. Didn't knew it would be so overpowered, but well well..
Holland/Colombia/Scandinavian-based team.
Leaders:
Quintana, Henao, Betancur, Duarte, LP Nordhaug, Kristoff, Boom and Terpstra, W Pouls.
Domestiques: Rujano, B Markus, S. Lander, J. Ahlstrand, M Frank, Slagter.

2 top 10's in Paris-Roubix and Vlaanderen for Boom
4 Stage wins in Giro: Kristoff, LP Nordhaug, Boom & Henao. 6th place overall for Henao.
3 stage wins in the Vuelta: Poels(x2), Bak
Dominated the pro conti ranking with over 3k points(1st Kristoff).
Bak retired after the first season, but brought in Van Emden, Gallopin and 3 u23 riders.
Remarkable results so far(I am at CdD now).
4th overall TdU: Kristoff
2nd overall Paris-Nice: Boom
Stage win Paris-Nice: Betancur
1 stage win Tirreno: Kristoff
1st Milan-Sanremo: Betancur
3rd Haralbeke: Terpstra (developed into 80COB this year).

10th Fleche Wallonne: Henao
9th Liege: Henao
1 stage win Tour de Romandie: S. Lander
3rd GC Giro d' Italia: Rujano(with TTT, 30KM IT and MTT). 78MO 68TT.
Contador, Nibali, VdB, Pozzovivo, Mollema, Scarponi, Froome, D. Martin, Van Garderen, Anton etc participated.. 1st: VdB, 2nd: Mollema.
Henao should be the leader and Rujano domestique, but Henao got injured at Tour de Romandie.
2 stage wins Giro d' Italia: S. Lander and Rujano.
KOM Giro d' Italia: K. Kemp(under 23 rider with 74hill and 66MO with good recovery and stamina so far..).
Stage win CdD with Poels. Not done with the race yet.
Bunch of other top 10's and wins in 1/2.HC races.
Next goal: Green jersey TdF with Kristoff and podium GC with Quintana in Vuelta.
Don't enjoy playing with 80+ stat riders, so I am going to get rid of those asap. Only Terpstra yet, with 80 in COB.
Hadn't played PCM12 until this save, so didn't knew my team was about to get so overpowered...

That's indeed a very strong team...
NL + Scandinavia + Colombia is a bit weird though, IMO
Team is getting grea results, keep up the good work
Have to agree on both..
In my defence, I don't have any top tier riders in any races(yet..).
.Sca because I am Scandinavian myself and Colombia because they are my favorite riders. Problem was that I really enjoy cobbled classics and wanted to be competative in them. Thats why i choose NL aswell. Learned from my mistake now, but I find it kind of hard just focusing on either classics, sprints or GC because of the sponsor goals.

Started career with HTC - Highroad. (ProTour division)
Team is pretty much the same as the one in 2011 but few changes
(OUT - Cavendish,Goss,Howard...IN - Froome, Degenkolb (Wanted to make a little balance. With Goss and Cav , it would be too overpowered. It is overpowered now,but i love winning! ))
Won first race, Australian Championships from breakaway, with Lachlan Norris, and almost won NZL one with Roulston.
Awful start in TDU , with finishing on 15th place with Renshaw (had -5 that day) at 1st stage (competition is really strong in TDU).

@admir Really strong team! Top 3on CQ ranking should be a realistic goal
ING - Shell
Update about the first 2 months in 2014, just ran the Belgian opening weekend.
Before that weekend, no big things happened. Only 2 things stood out a bit. Furthermore, no big GC results and Groenewegen & Van der Sande(my 2 sprinters) weren't there for the flat stage either.
Then, the cobbled weekend(Omloop + Kuurne + Samyn(Yes I count it)).
Chainel & De Bie peaked for it. That was a good decision.
In Omloop, it turned out to be a small sprint. Chainel, a good sprinter, wheelsucked, switching to the best wheel constantly. A nice 4th place was the result.
In KBK, Boonen escaped with a late attack, nobody seemed to get close. Chainel won the bunch sprint. For 2nd place. Still, great achievement!
Then, La Samyn was raced. Naturally has a weaker startlist, but still, guys like Leukemans, Phinney & Stannard made it a challenge, especially since those guys are better uphill(Race ends slightly uphill)
De Bie was an amazing helper for Chainel. Kept a high pace on the last section, with De Bie protecting Chainel.
Group thinned out to 10 riders or so. Sinkeldam attacked. Never had a big gap, and looked empty, so no need to chase him hard, he'll be reeled in in the sprint. De Bie went wheelsucking instead this time, with Chainel in his wheel. It was a good idea to save Chainel's energy like this. Sinkeldam wasn't sprinting and had a slow pace, so he would be reeled in. After 1km, when everyone was empty, Chainel was rocketing out of the group, he had quite a bit left.
Then, when it looked like Chainel was going to overtake Sinkeldam, at 500m to go, Sinkeldam suddenly started his sprint. Then this:
Meh
Still, great points achieved. 19th in the CQ ranking now, but that will change fast, I guess.
Team got their Roubaix & Amstel wildcards, but no RvV.
Looking forward to those races, but also to the small 2.HC races, with a TT, later on. Talking about 5 Jours, Bayern & Luxembourg. They are amazing for Dumoulin(74TT, 75PRL), Top 5 GC should be possible.
Hi guys, I want to tell you my 1st story with the 2013 db (The db before april update). I always catch Movistar (in pcm 2010 alwais Caisse d´Epargne, in 2005, Illes Balears). I always play in Extreme difficult, and i always play (not simulate) all the UCI classics, and GT stages. I also play all not flat stages in uci stage-races. The main goals of the season were:
1. Valverde: won uci race as Catalunya, PV, ardennes classics, Giro, Vuelta, WC, and Lombardia.
2. Rui Costa: paris niza, and suport Valverde in every races.
3. TdF: Won stages and be KoM
4: Win all mountain and some points, teams standings.
5. Win WT standings and CQ ranking with Valverde and Movistar.
At first, the clue of have good performance for all the time is NOT trainning at level 6 NEVER, until the end of the season with the leaders, chage the trainning program to custom when you won´t race for a long time, and spend all your money in trainnings, concentration (mountain, hills, recovery, TT...) and good trainners; and racing only UCI races (because each day you race over 60th day, 1 point less of form, I do that with the leardes, that´s why in Sept and October they are very strong). Movistar doesn´t have good riders in cobble races, so I send the worst riders to them, and I focus in stage races and hilly classics
January:
The first important race is Down Under. I won a stage with Lastras and finish in 2 place in the overall standing.
February:
Some winning in continental race with 'Bad riders´and Rojas in the top of his form (trainning for MSR).
March:
I finish in 2 place in Paris Nice with Rui Costa.
In Tirreno-Adriatico I won a stage with Valverde and finish in 7 place in the overall.
In MSR, I attack with valverde at poggio, but he hadn´t good fitness. I finished 7 with Rojas.
In Volta I won 2 stages with Valverde, and overall, mountain and points. I also won a stage with Cobo and another one with Capecchi (both in breakaway).
April:
PV: I won 2 stages with Valverde, and finish 2 pace in overall standing and points, and 1 in KoM with Lastras.
Amstel Gold Race: 3 with Valverde
Fleche Wallonia: 1 Valverde, 2 Rui Costa.
LBL: 2 with Valverde (Gilbert didn´t run these 3 races for being injuried).
Romandia: KoM with Nairo Quintana and 8 in Overall.
May
Giro: 1 stage with Valverde, points, and 2 in Overall (behind Sanchez, before Hesjedal) 1 stage and KoM with Intxausti, 1 stage Cobo, 10 in overall Rui Costa.
July:
TdF: 2 stage with Quintana, and KoM. 1 Stage with Capecchi, and other one with Smyd.
ToP: 3 in overall with Lastras
August:
Classic of San Sebastian: 7 with Nairo Quintana
Eneco Tour: 2nd in Overall with Lastras, KoM with Gutierrez.
GP Plouay: 4 with Visconti
Septiembre:
Vuelta: 1st Overral, Mountain and points with Valverde, and by Teams. Also win 2 stages with Valverde, 1 with Intxausti, 1 Moreno, 1 team TT stage.
GP Quebec: 7 with Amador.
GP Montreal: 3 With Amador
WCTT: 1st with Castroviejo
WC: 18 with J.Rodriguez (VAlverde refuse to race)
Lombardia: 1st with Valverde
October:
ToB: 1st with Valverde, with 1 stage
End of the Season: 2 In Velo d´Or (1st was Contador, winner of TdF).
WT ranking: 1st with Valverde , 1st by teams.
CQ ranking: 1st with Valverde, 1st by teams.
Most victories: Valverde, 17.
Now with the new db I´m playing a new story, but without concentration to upgrade stats (only preseason, recovery, team TT and GT stages), and it´s much more difficult. When I finished the 1st season, I´ll tell you. Hope you enjoy¡¡
