Stage 9
Vielha e Mijaran > Sabiñánigo
we hope to get Bennati over Puerto de Serrablo.and get few sprint points..
But no way..Caisse and Astana at the front working hard..Bennati is cracked..
When sprinters are out of the game..different race has started..when climber start to atack against each other in the flat..at first Devolder and Pereiro..
Pereiro was not just after climber points..he is going for solo..
Gerdemann and Efimkin atack..
Windy day..favorites need to be careful do not make any mistakes there with bad positioning..
Contador atack..18 km. to go..
Evans and Basso counters...
Pereiro still leading..Evans with Basso follows.. Evans realy trying to drop Basso..
wow..Sastre has come from now where..Monfort atack..Basso saw oportunity..this is chanche to get away from Evans..11 sec. between them is not secure lead..
Just before sprint..Basso launched another atack ..this is not about stage win..this is about time..
..stage win (first one for Basso ..second for Liquigas)..this was weird stage for climber like Basso to win..GC table looks a little better now..
Sanchez taking point jersey lead..he had KOM jersey already

Stage 10
Sabiñánigo > Zaragoza
...
Windy say in Spain..split...Liquigas controlling a situation..and they managed to keep Basso at the first group..
..strong wind and sharp city turns..Bennati looks like he just cant find himself a train to follow..
..and when sprint start..3 guys has small advantage...Chavanel is leading..Galdos and Vazguez..
Chavanel is starting to fade..Steegmans ..de Larrea..
we have surprise winner...Manuel Vázquez. Great day for continental team Contentpolis - Ampo.
Clearly fastest man in final 500m. was Bennati..he was passing several racer and managed to finish 4th. Good to know that he has speed left after hard mountain stages..
Freire managed to take points jersey back..

Suddenly I don't like Benna's chances in the points comp. Freire is always going to be there in the sprints and if Sanchez keeps going for them he is surely going to outscore Benna.
Your going to have to use all your skills here Guido! |

season is close to be over..I belive most of the raiders running inside red now..
Canecellara 5th. was also surprise..in sprint he has won it with 2 minutes..
Sprint..yes it will be hard to get sprinter jersey at first we have Freire..this is small problem compared to Sanchez..if Samuel keep collecting mountain stages points with this tempo.. |

Stage 12
Burgos - Suances
...this should be the day ..when I send my sprinter in the breakaway...then maybe he passes that last hill top before the leaders ..
..and here is Bennati..collecting points..
30,5 km to go..Efimkin atack..
Bruseghin and Contador counters..
Sanchez follows..
..Sastre..Basso still waiting and looking Evans..when Evans will react he follows..no Evans just sitting there..and moment later Sastre is already caught..
..at the front Minard is just left from breakaway..Bennati was craked at the climb he is till out there ..between Minard and main group..
..Contador and Sanchez refuses to give up..they atacked again..hard and long one it is..
Minard just managed to keep the lead..before the line. Sanchez was so close to collect another stage win...Bennati takes 4th. place today.
Good news for Liquigas...Bennati collected today 22. points and has a point jersey competion lead...(tomorrow he will probably lost is again).
Bad new for Liquigas... Basso has giving away 1.23 to Sanchez and almost a minut to Contador.

good to see that Bennati is back in the points jersey, but I think that Sanchez is a bigger rival than Freire as he will get points in the mountain stages too.

Stage 13
San Vicente - Alto de L'Angliru
The main attraction is the special-category Alto de El Angliru at the finish, which made its fourth appearance in the Vuelta and first since 2002. This brutal climb featured gradients as high as 23% near the summit.
Cold and rainy day..
Lets start with dessert..Alto de El Angliru. Rodriquez go's first...
Bruseghin follows...
..Lövkvist..Gerdemann..
5km to go..lead group is formed..Gedemann, Lövkvist, Bruseghin and Rodriquez..
...Rodriquez cant follow..totaly wasted rider with french champ. jersey is Jérôme Pineau..who was in breakaway. Menchov and Sastre atack..and other favorite counters Basso, Evans, Contador..Pereiro..
3.9 km. to go..Basso takes the lead..Contador is coming back..this is chanche to get away..
..not that easy ..3.3 km to go and group comes back together..(every km. feels longer then usually)..Contador..Evans..Basso..Cobo..Efimkin..Sastre, Menchov, Bruseghin, Lövkvist and Pereiro. Vuelta 2009 elite group..
2.3 km to go and Contador at the front start to pull fast has possible...who can keep up and want to keep he's podium place alive..should follow now..
Group has been destroyed..G1 Contador, Evans and Basso..G2 Sanchez, Sastre and Menchov..G3 Cobo and Pereiro..
..wow what was that..Pereiro stop's ..he was doing ok..quite good is even closer. What was happening there. I did not see him crashed..he's tour is over. Sad ..he had a great run.
Inside final km..Contador atacking again..Evans follows..Basso dont have any energy left to respond..
Sanchez and Sastre as left Menchov behind..
Contador takes stage win..deserved one. Basso is so lucky that he has survived there..
He should start to afraid Contador..tomorrow again mountain stage.
Sanchez 4th. ..this is enough to take points jersey back..

Guido can we start a petition to keep you doing this story for another season?
No thanks....when I started this story goal was to finish it before new game is coming out.
Then we have enough fuzz around this event..
..and transfer rally still to scary for me..
..never say never ofcorse.. |

64. edition
Stage 14
Oviedo > Fuentes de Invierno
This stage went from hilly to mountainous. There were six categorized climbs on this course, three first-category and three third-category. The three third-category hills were all in the first 35 kilometers, leaving the riders to tackle three first-category climbs over the remainder of the stage, ending nearly as high in elevation as they did the previous day at Angliru when they headed up to the ski resort Fuentes de Invierno
Last serious mountain stage..
23km. to go..Brjakovic..Basso and Brjakovic atack..pain has started..
15km. to go..Contador has tried to drop Basso.. now he trying to talk him over..to help him out.
Basso taking the lead..and start to pull. Contador in trouble?..no he comes back..
8.8km to go ..this bastard ..so much about working together..Contador has launched atack..Basso trying to keep up..damn he is fast
Oh now..6.8km to go Basso first time in 2009 Vuelta has cracked..he is no able to keep up with Contador..
Sanchez is coming at behind..Basso is greatful for this help..
at behind Sastre and Evans trying to catch Basso-Sanchez duo..
..and Contador celebrating..he has a reason..first time he has droped all the riders at the climb..second stage win on the row..
totaly empty Basso coming with Sanchez (this guy is just amazing)..they have small advantage over Evans..
Time..
..we have draw situation after 14 stage..Basso and Contador are inside same second..
Contador must think now..I probably started celebration ritual to early..
