Just ... Great ride from Adrian , but it wasn't enough for a win, our EPIC captains will have good support from him next season

Is it me or is every non-WT one-day flat race won by a break?
Also, why on earth are my two lead sprinters in the back of the pack, while they're supposed to actually sprint?
And why on earth are my riders only trying to join a break when it's already settled?

Yeah, was expecting Guido more at the front as well..
Thanks for the report by the way, I may have to agree with you PCM13 AI isn't ideal for reporting classics.

I'll send him a PM to ask if he's out for good. He's still active in the story games section and he did send in his wildcard applications, so yeah, more of a case of too lazy to make startlists I think.

Vuelta a Burgos - Stage 1 [Burgos - Burgos]
Long into the race until an attak initiated by Moreno Hofland (Belkin) is succesful. Wilson Marentes (Colombia), David Veilleux (Europcar) and Jonathan McEvoy (NetApp) follow to build the break of the day, just before the first mountain sprint.
The Canadian is the first up the hill and takes full points on the first mountain sprint ahead of Hofland and Marentes.
Mountain Sprint
David Veilleux | Europcar | 6 | Moreno Hofland | Belkin | 4 | Wilson Marentes | Colombia | 2 |
Afterwards three Intermediate sprints within 20 kilometres follow in which Moreno Hofland shows that he is the strongest sprinter of the break members.
Intermediate Sprint
Moreno Hofland | Belkin | 6 | -6" | Wilson Marentes | Colombia | 4 | -4" | David Veilleux | Europcar | 2 | -2" |
Intermediate Sprint
Moreno Hofland | Belkin | 6 | -6" | David Veilleux | Europcar | 4 | -4" | Wilson Marentes | Colombia | 2 | -2" |
Intermediate Sprint
Moreno Hofland | Belkin | 6 | -6" | David Veilleux | Europcar | 4 | -4" | Wilson Marentes | Colombia | 2 | -2" |
18 bonus seconds, means that Hofland is at least second in the GC after this stage, when the break is caught and he manages to stay with the peloton.
On the other hand Jonathan McEvoy scored nothing at the Intermediate sprints. After he left the Mountain sprint already with empty hands he stays unlucky.
A success of the breakaway is very unlikely, as behind Cannondale, Argos, Champion Systems and Euskaltel teamed up to narrow the gap. At the last intermediate sprint with 60 kilometres to go, the break is 3'40'' ahead.
A big street leading into Burgos decrease the chances of the break. At the 20 kilometres banner the cyclists in the peloton already have the four escapees in sight. It looks like they are already caught before the last mountain sprint, 8 kilometres before the finish. Just above 1 minute is the gap at the moment.
Exactly under the 10 kilometres banner the break is reeled in and the last mountain sprint will be contested by the entire peloton. This means that probably something from there will get the mountain jersey for tomorrow, considering that at the finish more mountain points are awarded.
The first time the riders made it up the finishing climb. Pello Bilbao leads the peloton through and gets the maximum points.
Mountain Sprint
Pello Bilbao | Euskaltel | 6 | Ryota Nishizono | Champion Systems | 4 | Garikoitz Bravo | Euskaltel | 2 |
With 2.5 kilometres to go the trains are formed. Rajesh Kakhi seems to be in a great position with still two leadouts ahead of him. Right on his wheel is Gregory Henderson. Also Degenkolb is strongly leadout by Simon Geschke. His wheel was taken by Leigh Howard. On the far left we see Samuel Sanchez with an early move. Lobato seems a little alone, all by himself. Daniele Ratto is Cannondale's man for today, he is closely followed by Valverde.
A sharp corner messed everything a little bit up, with leadouts boxing faster men coming from behind in. Christophe Riblon smelled his chance at this situation and is the first to rocket through the red kite.
500 metres to go and Degenkolb has made his way through the mess. Only Riblon ahead of him now. The riders on the inside taking the faster way and passing those on the right. Lobato also has a go now and Kakhi hasn't found a way around Gorka Izagirre, who doesn't want to move his fat ass out of the way.
Degenkolb seems like the certain winner now, also Ratto and Lobato going past Riblon.
Great win for the German, finally ending his run of 2nd places. Next to the win he also takes over all jerseys, expect for the mountain jersey, where a randomizer decided to give it David Veilleux. Ratto is second and Lobato just passes Riblon. Valverde showing he is fresh and well prepared for the race and gets 5th. Kakhi with a strong comeback in 6th. Rolland 7th, Henderson 8th. Degenkolb's and Kakhi's leadout, Oreste Ghita and Matthias Friedemann respectively round off the top 10.

Come on, Gorka, move your fat ass!
Though the result isn't that good, that has been the first time we dominated as leadout. Well done guys, really promising!

Good to see McEvoy in the break but he clearly was empty when the race ended, looking at his gap. Great report Bikex. Nacho's DegenStache with two victories in such a short time, someone's on a roll.

Argos' insistence on using GC guys as leadouts is really rather funny.

Kakhi not even mentioned as a favourite? Guys, you will regret underestimating him.
Though I'd be really interested to know the MO/HI-ratio of that race..
