Dean Downing is the new British National Criterium Champion...
He was off the front for the majority of the day and just managed to hold off the onrushing pack, just pipping Rob Hayles to the line.
btw, Russ Downing only lost because he crashed and his bike snapped in 2

An awesome performance by Cummings, he is unlucky to have been 2nd in both the stage and now the GC! Looking good for the Olympics though (Even if the field may be a tad stronger in Beijing!)

Matti lost out again this year and he will have hard time winning this race with the kind of tt abilities he has. But very nice job by Fuglsang. He's preparing for a career on the road instead of mountain biking and I think he will sign a pro-contract already before next season.

Cummings did great, he could manage a top 50 in the road race (if there is a pile-up of around 20 riders) and maybe a top 40 in the TT

A danish rider that isnt from CSC winning the Tour of Denmark. And then Fuglsang who i really like. This is going to be the (read: mine) cycling highlight of 2008! Except if he goes on to take olympic MTB gold

And if we are lucky, it may result in us getting more riders at the World Championship |

I see one of the peloton's most underrated riders sitting in the top 10.
Also:
*Random sarcastic comment about the winner of the mountains jersey at such a flat and irrelevant race*

Some random stage of a random Belgian junior race:
1 Mats Boeve (Ned) Turkish National Team 2.14.00 (17.976 km/h)
2 Julien Rousseau (Bel) Cycling Team Crabbé-Performa 0.41
3 Tim Wellens (Bel) Denmark National Team
4 Arnaud Maquet (Bel) Union Cycliste de Seraing
5 Anthony Savo (Bel) Bodysol - Lotto - CT Menen
Look at the nationalities of the guys 1st and 3rd, then look at their teams.

*aditional sarcasm referring to the fact that such mountains are also found in 4 and 5 day portuguese stage races*

There are mountain stages and steep climbs in the Volta.. Not that it matters much though, both tours are irrelevant. |
