Yes! Once you are connected, all your activities will be uploaded automatically as soon as they are uploaded to Garmin Connect. Your activities from the past won't be uploaded automatically though, so if you want previous activities to appear you are going to have to upload them manually.

Ah okay, cool.

Wont join the group for now but i can give a small update from me in this thread. Nearly exactly half a year ago i lastly wrote here about my running. Back then I still suffered from an injury that destroyed my whole 2015 season.

The injury still caused some small breaks in october and november so i decided to more or less skip the indoor season and focus on endurance and build a foundation for the new year instead.

I only participated in two indoor events:
In December I used our club's indoor meeting to set a new personal best: 3000m in 9:38 and in February i used local champs on my "home track" to run 1500m: 4:23. Again new PB.

In March I participated in the German Cross Country Champs but suffered completely due to an illness that prevented me from training for a week, the rather long distance (8,x km) and the difficult surface.

Later in March, I started in 2 5k road races. The first one I finished in 16:58 (New PB). The km splits tell me that there was a lot more possible: 3:29-3:27-3:26-3:22-3:11. Exactly one week later I missed the opportunity to improve it (17:14) but at least i finished top 20 of 2500+ finishers Pfft

Last week i peaked with endurance training with a 118 km week in a training camp near Albufeira (Portugal). It was awesome. Great weather and great landscape made for a nice extra motivation Grin
Especially cool was to train on the 2010 Cross European Championships parcour! I wish we could have a similar parcour for German Cross Champs instead of the mud field above. Running on / 150m next to the beach is obviously also cool Pfft

What's next? Well, my focus now is completely on 800m. Minimum goal is a sub-2:00 but i'm more aiming for a 1:57. New PBs on 400m and 1500m should come as well though.

After an entire day of university I went for a run and cracked my 5k and 10k best time on strava. I am now at 20:53 for 5k. There's still plenty of room to improve tho especially since I ran the first two 2k rather slow. Smile

EDIT i was also at the sidelines of Vienna City Marathon. I did not want to spend 100 bucks on running a marathon but it was fun to see my gf sweat it out on half the distance. Ofc I also watched some great kenyan and ethiopan athletes, unbelieveable how fast those guys are when they ran past you.

I took part in a quarter marathon today. The weather conditions were great, 10 ºC and cloudy is ideal for me as I'm easily overheated. The race went well and the official time was 41:55 on a rather hilly course. I also managed to beat my dad for the first time in a "fair" way (I beat him in a 10k race last year but he had completed an Ironman one week before that race and were pretty tired). Pfft

Meh today is race day and it rains a lot. So a new best time on 5k will be difficult but I give my best. Unfortunately the race is very late, 7pm. So I need to watch out that I accidently don't eat too much during the day. Grin

Results are in. 5k in 19:15 (19:26 is on the file tho for now) is the verdict, 48th of the men, 50th in total. Happy to made the goal of being below 20 minutes although we had some heavy rain and I ran with an open shoelace for about 4 kilometers. 7th fastest runner of my university too, however apparently they didn't include me in the calcucation which sucks.

I started pretty fast to get forward and had some good runners next to me most of the time who were doing a good pace too. Not many people caught me while I got quite some. Around kilometer 3 I had to fight and slowed a bit to have more reserves, the last kilometer was okay from difficulty. It's tough to feel empty after 5k but it's also so hard to go faster and I was afraid that I'd miscalcutate my effort and power.

So overall beating the 20 minutes goal, I'm good and happy and I'll definitely do some 5k races in the future again. It motivates me to train more the power since I'm fond of the longer runs anyway.

I haven't run in a while now and I feel I'm going to have a hard time next run Pfft
Though with summer coming, it's going to become harder for me to run well, I get hot easily. 10° is perfect for running for me.
I run better through rain, as well. Motivates me.

I can imagine your struggles around kilometer 3. Imo by far the hardest point of a 5k race.

Yes indeed, I feel like this is really something special since it meant I was under a 4 min per k avg, which is pretty sweet. It also turns out I was 11 seconds faster than on the sheet file for now, so I clocked at 19:15 actually. No excuses, I definitely want to get under 19 minutes this summer. Smile

I love the 5k distance, it's probably my favourite one actually. I tend to struggle in longer races than 10k. I suspect it's partly because of my age but I also believe my body is more structured for shorter distances.

@Ian: I'm like you, I hate hot weather when running. It obviously makes me run slower and, maybe more importantly, it also makes me suffer significantly more during races compared to cool weather. Frown

My biggest goal of this season is coming up! Göteborgsvarvet half marathon takes place on 21 May, and I'm praying for cool and cloudy weather. Last year it was 13 °C and sunny, I got overheated and suffered a lot during the second half of the race.

Just saw that in my hometome there's a 10k run this weekend and since I'm going there for a short visit at my parent's place I might do that race too while I'm at it. Smile

Yeah, know the feeling.
My perfect running weather is like 6-7°C to start out with. Then 1-2 km into the run it starts to rain.
Whenever rain happens, I go off-road and just run straight through fields or woods. Cross-country and all. Always gives me a sense of being very much alive Pfft

5k is probably my favorite distance, too. Though I never actually measure or time my measures. Only rarely I do, to check my progress compared to a few months ago.

Yesterday I ran a small 10k race in the evening. I have not been running as much as usual last months, so I was aiming for 35min. Because of the hills on this course I usually run about 40s. slower on this course than on the easier courses.
I finished in 35:20 with 17:35 halfway. Next month I will race on a faster course and hoping to beat my PB 34:33.
The 10k races are starting to feel way to short. I really want to race more half marathons this year and later a marathon.

So today was Göteborgvarvet Half Marathon. The weather forecast ahead of the race said around 15 degrees and cloudy, but the sun shone most part of the race.

I had one goal: to finish in less than 90 minutes, and my legs felt pretty good in the beginning of the race. I passed 10 km with a time of 42:41. During the second part of the race, I started to realize that maybe I didn't run fast enough to reach my goal. I tried to speed up at the end, and the last couple of kilometres went pretty fast.

My Garmin showed 1:30:14 when I crossed the finish line. I doubt I have ever been more disappointed.

The official time was 1:30:12, which means that just over half a second faster per kilometer would have been enough for 1:29:59. In the end I think I just wasn't trained enough for this race. My minor knee injury prevented me from training like I would have wanted to during the winter, and I didn't run too many long runs before this race.

This was the biggest goal of the season and I feel not only disappointment but also sadness for not having achieved my obvious goal.

I guess there will be more chances.

As written earlier my focus this summer is on 800m again.

My minimum goal was to get a sub-2:00 time and I already achieved it on Thursday.
I profitted from perfect conditions: no wind, 18°C (which imo is just perfect for 800m) and a great starting field.

I finished in 1:58:93 Grin
With that time i was the slowest in my heat with the others' times between 1:55 and 1:58 and they pulled me with a very steady pace (split times: 28 - 58 - 1:28) towards my new personal best. Smile

I was (and still am) super exited about that time especially as I was rather sceptical after my 800m season opener 2 weeks ago was disappointing with a time of 2:06.

Now I'll (ofc) try to improve that time further!

My next race was a 400m track event on friday. I improved my personal best to 52,63. And possibly even more important: I beat my (younger) teammate who loves to brag about how he's the fastest of our trainings group on short distances Pfft

I'm very happy with how my times developed. New PBs on 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m since December.

Next up are two more attempts on 800m this month before I take a short break for exams.

Well, as some people might have already seen, I finally decided to give running a 2nd chance.

A friend was taking part at a 10km run in Görlitz, so I decided(without training) to join and see how I go.

It took me 1:09h to finish. I was completely dead afterwards and I still can't properly walk, 4 days after the event.

My Heart rate Monitor, which I had with me told the story.

Avg HR: 179
Max HR: 199

I was pretty dead, but I want to start there next year again, because it was kinda fun. maybe I will prepare for it the next time. Somehow I hoped that cycling can work as a preparation.

But there's one good site to it. I still have my punch to the line. Normally I try to go as hard as I can for the last 100m, but some girl overtook me 150-200m to the line and I didn't want that to happen, so I had to go early. Happy to say that I beat her. Not happy to say, that I couldn't walk for 20 minutes and that she was maybe 10 or 11 years old...
