Extra bonus on ESPN right now, Bonnie Ford, ESPN's cycling commentator, just mispronounced Contador's name.
Reilly isn't a cycling comentator... he's just a general sports columnist (and a bit of an arrogant jerk when you see him on TV).
Him commenting on cycling is like some of the people on here who view "football" as only a game played with a round ball commenting on the Dallas Cowboys. It's based solely on stuff that 99% of the population knows... and in the US that's pretty much just Lance.
Most general sports fans in the US couldn't tell yo who won the tour last year and have no idea who Greg Lemond is.
I know that, but I still think its a good representative of how American commentators feel about Lance and the 09 Tour
American commentators who don't know anything about cycling... yes.
But honestly... if someone doesn't know anything about what they are talking about... who really cares what they have to say?
I present to you, this man:

Saxo Bank upping the pace while Gesink is behind. They won't be popular. |

Ligget and Sherwen just had another flash of brilliance. When Gesink went down Gerard Porte's car stopped on the side of the road, and Porte got out to make sure he was okay. Ligget and Sherwen, who I am from now on calling Bert and Ernie, were apparently surprised that the car was able to get on the closed road............they didn't realize it was the doctors car, despite Porte running back and forth from it. |

I seriously don't see your point. You know they probably know more about cycling then you give them credit for. Plus cycling commentators mispronounce names all the time. I thought the Rick Reily article was pretty good.

Oh i missed that. Oh well. What do you have against commentators. You are always the first to pounce when they make a mistake.

Bonnie Ford is a tennis correspondent who was given cycling because ESPN needed a cycling commentator. Rick Reily is an idiot who was funny when he was writing for SI but has never really known that much about sport in general. And I can understand John Anderson mispronouncing Cancellara's name in the segment, but Bonnie Ford mispronouncing Contador? Seriously, Contador, its a really easy name to pronounce. |

I'm really starting to get tired of Ligget and Sherwen, and how everyone I know thinks they are fantastic. I just want them to shut up. |

The interesting thing is you rarely hear anyone speak positively about cycling comentators. Sherwin and Liggett make some mistakes... but overall they're decent. Compared to what some of the people say about other commentators... decent isn't that bad. |

again if you dont like it stop listening. I know they make mistake but they are very knowledgeable on cycling. It seems as though you demand perfection. If everyone know thinks their fantastic and your the only one who doesn't. Hmmmmm.

The argument that they are knowledgeable about cycling and make mistakes is the one I used to make. At this point though I just don't think they know anything. They all think that the tactics are like those from the 70's and 80's and the abilities of the riders are the same as they were in 2003. I'm really starting to get annoyed. |

I've just started to see today's stage and I'm afraid I'm lost. This is quite hectic. What the hell is going on?

Thanks, Deadpool. Are all the GC contenders in the first group?

probably, although most of the Silence guys were way back, so maybe Evans missed it.
Boonen and Gesink, Gesink because of a crash and Boonen because of a flat are not in the front group |
