Absolutly fantastic bad timing for a Vuelta. Especially since everyone who rides the Ardennes will go for the Tour, then, and the sprinters wont prior it.

Wanna bet that Vuelta will be stacked ?

All the non italian classic riders will be there and a lot of lietanants will go hard in vuelta for GC and help the captain in TdFWink

I think that vuelta will surface up new GC riders or remake the ones who where riders with big potential but never make it Smile

The jetlag will also be to near the TdF. In February wont it make that big difference.

I think your over estimating the influence of jet lag here by some margin. It only takes 1-3 days to get over a long trip/change in clock. Bear in mind that Armstrong will be returning to the U.S in JUNE to prepare for the Tour after the Giro!

Nah. It's far enough from the Tour that you can do both the Tour and the Vuelta at full strength, which doesn't happen right now Smile

April this year:

5 Ronde van Vlaanderen / Tour des Flandres
6 - 11 Vuelta Ciclista al País Vasco
8 Gent - Wevelgem
12 Paris - Roubaix
19 Amstel Gold Race
22 La Flèche Wallonne
26 Liège - Bastogne - Liège
28 - 3 Tour de Romandie

A Vuelta i April would be between 28th March and 19th April, in my though, and would collide with the Cobblestone Classics, AGR and Vuelta Pais Vasco.

The Tour of California organisers have suddenly decided that killing the race would be a great idea.

To achieve this, they asked the UCI to change the race from mid-february where it's the biggest race and gets awesome participation to mid-may, at the same time as two much bigger races.

Unless the Volta a Catalunya organisers get their wish for their race to be moved to a different calendar spot, the Tour of California has just commited suicide.

i dont know what they are thinking.

They don't seem to know much at all about cycling.

From their statements it seems they think the only competition in may will be the giro. Which is....well....completely wrong.

they must be riding to the top of the Passo Lanciano then. Half the distance, but still decently hard.

Lets not forget though, it's only a 79km stage, the climb would be a large part of it.
