Paris Roubaix
Hell of the North! Maybe my favourite cobble race, but as you know, I suck on cobbles so nothing for me to race.
The same story as in all of the other classics, the pack stayed together for a long time. But when the favourites upped the pace, it was just about 15 riders left. As always, Matti, Stuey and Fabian left from SaxoBank.
Paris Roubaix was almost the same as Ronde van Vlaanderen, one favourite (2 in RvV) who got a big gap, this time, Stijn Devolder!
But this time Cancellara stayed cool a little longer and the he attacked! Together with Flecha, he created a chasing group.
Devolder was still leading with more than a minute and Fabian started to feel pressure.. So he decided to give it a last try, and what a last try!
Cancellara caught Devolder just a few kms before the velodrome and when they entered it, he was on Stijns wheel. Perfect position!
Devolder was really tired and he didn't have much left in the tank, but did Cancellara have the power to beat him?
Yes he had the power, an unbelieveable win from Fabian Cancellara! Amazing!
This was the win we wanted to have, an amzing ride from Fabian, and what a start on the season he have had!

Great result in Roubaix! Has Cancellara progressed to unbeatable levels yet? I think in my FDJ game file he was 85fl 85tt 85cob, plus really good values for hills, fighter and sprint (won the sprints classication at Vuelta 2010!). Unbeatable when anywhere near form! |

Amstel Gold Race
End of the cobble classics, time for the hilly classics. Our man in those is of course the older one of the Schleck brothers, Fränk.
Nothing interesting did really happen in this race. With some hills left, just tha favourites was left and then the attacks came. Fränk was there but Dekker, Popovych and Nocentini made the strongest attacks and they was ahead of the others when the sprint started.
Fränk sprinted good and he almost caught Nocentini who finished 3rd. It was a hard fight between Dekker and Popovych, but the younger of them got the win.
4th by Schleck is a pretty good start in the classics, but looking at the riders ahead of him, we should be pretty dissapointed.

Yes, he is great, but I think he's got 85 Flat, 84 Cob, 85 TT or something like that. 75 in sprint and 76 in hill. But he can progress more so expect him to be a monster soon

Not one of my favourite races.. It's just a semi-classic and Larsson is not in it. Sorry if I dissapointed you, but when Gustav is in the race, the reports will be with much pictures, and pretty big. Then I've decided to report on the bigger races and the races that I want to report. But those reports won't be to big and with maybe just 1 or 2 pictures..

I think its a good decision to do it this way. After all, it is a story about Gustav but I like what you've done with a short report for the big races. |

La Fleche Wallone
The second of the three hilly classics and Schleck wants revenge here from Amstel Gold Race.
Same story again, and this time it was a big group who fought for the win, Fränk didn't have the legs to fight for the win, but he took the last spot on the podium and that is pretty good.
A surprise winner today, Yaroslav Popovych!

Liege Bastogne Liege
The action started with two hills to go, and it was Fränk who attacked! Almost every favourite countered and this created a large front group.
After the last hill, on the downhill, Schleck tried to get away. Kirchen and Evans countered.
Fränk was leading in the beginning of the sprint, but the didn't have the legs today. Both Kirchen and Evans rode past him and Cadel Evans was the fastest today.
Another podium for Schleck, which is pretty good.

Tour de Romandie
Stage 1
I'm back after the break, and it feels great to be back in action! My legs aren't the best right now but I think that I will be in great form in the Giro.
This stage race will start with a short prologue and I'm hoping for a win here, that would be awesome.
Stef Clement was one of the early leaders and sat a pretty good time.
But Ignatiev beat his time, and now he was the race leader!
Magnus Bäckstedt was really dissapointing today..
Marcel Sieberg then took the lead from Ignatiev. But then I started, and directly, I felt that this was my day!
I crushed the others times, and I took the lead, amazing! This was looking good.
But left were Bodrogi and Wiggins, but they couldn't match me today!
I was totally crazy after the race, amazing! My first Pro Tour win!

Tour de Romandie
Stage 2
It was an amazing feeling to stand at the starting line with the yellow jersey, it's not every day it happens for me. I also knew that it would be hard to keep it for another day, so I enjoyed the stage as much as I could.
Todays break, most threatening rider was Murilo Fischer.
With a long way to the line, Ginanni and others tried something.
But of course they were caught.
When the action started on the steep hill with about 20 km to go, the break was still in front. I countered Di Luca.
With 10 km to go, this was the situation:
E1: Colom and Mazzanti
E2: Fischer
E3: Group Di Luca
E4: Group Siutsou and Rohregger
E5: Me and Iglinskiy
I felt that I had to do something, so I attacked!
In front, the roles were changed and Johann Tschopp was leading with just 1 km to go!
and he took the win!
It was very tight for the 2nd spot, but Albasini got it and it was a 1-2 for Suisse!
I crossed the line, 1,39 after Tschopp, an okey result I have to say. I was pretty statisfied even if I lost the yellow jersey.

Tour de Romandie
Stage 3
Sprint stage today, and probably a rest day for me, and I think that I need it before tomorrows TT.
The break got caught and it came down to a sprint. Alex Rasmussen is there for SaxoBank the commentator said, No wait! That's GUSTAV LARSSON! Incredible!
I knew that every sprinter was tired, so I tried something surprising. But I couldn't beat Alessandro Petacchi who took the win today.
But I did end 2nd, a great tactic from me and I earned some bonus seconds.
Maybe it was bad by me and maybe I will get tired later in the race, but I liked to surprise there, and I'm now in the top 10 again!

Tour de Romandie
Stage 4
A 19km long TimeTrial today, and another chance for me to collect Pro Tour points, and maybe a second win. That would be great, and I'm the favourite here, together with Bradley Wiggins.
Wiggins was one of the first real TimeTrialers who started, and he didn't dissapoint anyone, he took the lead easiely.
Next up of the favourites was Stef Clement, who did a good ride and went 18 seconds slower than Wiggins, taking 2nd when he crossed the line.
Right after the dutch, it was time for Ignatiev. He didn't ride well today, crossing the line 30 seconds late to Wiggins.
Then it was finally time for me, and I felt good at the start, this was going to be my day!
And it became my day, I crushed all the times at the first check and then held the lead to the finish. 25 seconds faster than Wiggins. That time is going to be hard to beat.
Colom went 1 second slower than his team mate Ignatiev and I climbed past him in the GC.
Van de Walle did a good ride and finished in the top 10 today, but that was not enough to keep me behind in the GC.
Di Luca showed that he's got skills in TT too, taking 3rd of the day. Anyway, I went past him in the GC with just 4 seconds. It will be tough to keep him behind me in the GC in the last stages.
Tschopp rode good and he's keeping the yellow yersey for at least one more day.
A second win for me, amazing! Now I'm starting to feel that I can make a top 10 in Giro d'Italia.
