Juan Pedro López was in a 2nd breakaway group, but sadly they got caught before they reached the first group. In the first breakaway group, KoM leader Clément Champoussin from AG2R took another 34 points, further extending his lead.
The breakaway was caught and the stage was to be decides between the best climbers. Today Jack Haig had the best legs, taking the stage win in front of Jonas Vingegaard. Vincenzo Nibali finished 14th losing 17 seconds. Bauke Mollema lost 59”.
Very good result from Quick Step's Mikkel Frølich Honoré.

Kenny Elissonde is our man in the morning breakaway, but he struggles with it today, does not get anything from the effort and was the first to be dropped.
The breakaway was caught. Vincenzo Nibali attacks over the final climb, with a fast downhill he manages to hold a small gab all the way to the finish line. The Sicilian Shark takes his first victory since his stage win in Tour de France 27th of July 2019.
Spoiler Pretty good legs:

Most of the squad had rather bad legs today, maybe due to the harsh weather. Especially Stuyven was quite weak considering he was a race favourite. He lost contact with the leading riders with more than 20 km left and never came back. Mads Pedersen a little better, losing 27” as part of the 2nd group.

7 riders formed the early breakaway, with strong climbers like Louis Meintjes and Geoffrey Bouchard, but as you might expect, the final climb was too hard for the group and it came to a fight between the race favourites.
The stage was won by Ben O'Connor. Vincenzo Nibali 12th and Bauke Mollema 17th both lost 25”. The race is still lead by Jonas Vingegaard. Vincenzo Nibali is 16th in GC at 3’38. Bauke Mollema 20th at 4’30.

Antonio Tiberi is part is today’s breakaway, not the strongest riders, but it is quite large. Antonio takes 15 KoM points, moving up to third in the classification.
Vincenzo Nibali attacks from the peloton over the final climb, but this time he gets caught. The stage was won by Mark Donovan from the breakaway, Antonio Tiberi finish 7th in the same time. There is no time gab, between the race leaders.

The team does a brilliant job today, keeping Mads Pedersen and Jasper Stuyven out of trouble on the difficult route at Flanders windy flatland and on Heuvelland’s steep hills. Its Charlie Quarterman 2nd appearance of the season and the young rider from Oxfordshire does very well, delivering supply to the front, very glad to be present in an important race like this. 26 riders are left in the favourite group approaching the sprint. Italian Champion Giacomo Nizzolo beat Mads Pedersen and Sam Bennett in a tight finish.

Just catching up now - really strong results in the stage races with those three stage wins but also Pedersen's GC performance. Great to see the Nibali win in particular! And then 2nd place in Strade Bianche for Ciccone is a standout result, too. Pedersen follows that up with second in GW, feels like that big classics win is right around the corner ...

Thanks for reply.
Yes, the last one was really close and Mads had a bit left in the end so just a matter of seconds starting earlier and he might have made it.

The morning breakaway did not stand a chance, on the short high-speed stage. They were caught with more than 60 km left. The elimination came gradually, with more and more riders falling out of the back of the peloton for every hill passed. It came down to a reduced sprint between 17 riders. 30 years old Jesús Herrada from Castilla–La Mancha in central Spain, won the last stage in front of Lorenzo Rota and Bauke Mollema.

@cunego59
Was Mollema in Strade Bianche, sadly Ciccone was injured earlier, still not fit to race.

A large morning breakaway formed, most notably INEOS Grenadiers’ Gianni Moscon.
With about 80 km left, the original breakaway was caught and although a few more optimistic attempts were made, from here it was the top favourites setting the pace. With 40 km left the decisive move came from Mathieu van der Poel, creating a group with Wout van Aert, Sonny Colbrelli and Jasper Stuyven.
Wout van Aert won the race in front of Mathieu van der Poel at 55”, Colbrelli 3rd lost 1’22 and Jasper Stuyven came 4th in the same time, Lampaert rounding of top 5 at 1’34. A nice result from our Belgian cobble specialist in one of the toughest and most important races of the season.

The opening ITT favoured the climbers rather than the specialist, due to the opening 2.5 km climb up to Santo Domingo at avg. 7.4% and the final about 0.5 km steep ramp up to Parque Etxebarria, at avg. 9.8%. The stage was won by Primož Roglic in front of teammate Jonas Vingegaard and EF Education’s veteran Rigoberto Urán. Best from Trek – Segafredo was Bauke Mollema, 21th at 35”
