That's not what I meant. It obviously can and should happen from time to time, but here we have more than a minute between Talansky and Warbasse. Which I personally can only explain with a big difference in daily form. And in my opinion, the range -5 to +5 is just too big.
Btw, I repeated several times that Glanbia might have been underestimated concerning their climbing strength, so I'm not at all surprised to see Talansky win here. But I don't like seeing some riders do as bad as they did. Well, at least there's plenty of time to turn that around, which hopefully means we'll have some action-loaded stages upcoming

Would just note that I would guess this is TT randomness/large gaps speaking more than daily form? Otherwise we could also say that up a 23km mountain, 1 minute is actually a tiny gap if they were really +5 and -5

Talansky took a nice victory! Vasyliv did excellent today. Limiting losses and now 2nd on GC on 11 seconds behind Talansky. He is in an excellent position heading into the last stages and seems to be on great form!
Some interesting losses though which is definitely the TT randomness. Still makes it interesting heading into the final stages with some of the stronger climbers now needing to make up time…
Thanks for the reports! Really exciting for the final stages!

Probably a combination of form and randomness. Have to say from ICL the TT randomness was way worse in PCM15.
Unfortunate that the only guy to have a poor day for us was Warbasse. The big gap on S3 shows here as the other 3 still a long way down in GC despite great rides. Given Boswell's ride in HKC I can't complain too much here. Schlegel is making Warbasse's ride look like magic.
Next stage is the big one to me, that stage is really hard and the gaps can be big, Need a good day from Warbasse as his advantage in the MTs against Talansky and Vasyliv is pretty marginal.
Congrats to Caja and Glanbia on some great performances. Warbasse better not lose to Talansky too much or he is going to owe the extra 300k he cost .

Nice win for Talansky
I wouldn't quite write off the season for the other top guys!
Hoping now for a top 3

Talansky continues to impress, that's still a pretty nice gap he has there. Ablenado is looking great as well, and given his solid TT he might actually be the better bet for Caja anyway.
I guess the next stage will be pretty decisive, with so many climbs awaiting. I'd like to see McCormick finally making something out of their team strength. It looked good today with Kuss setting a high pace, but apparently he was just tiring his own leader instead of the competition ^^
Good to see that Schlegel at least tried, but it wasn't a really smart move from 20km out. Hopefully Tryg will have better luck next time - or still get a couple of good stage results here.
Thanks to red for the nice reports

Not great, not terrible. Tomorrow is the key day I was thinking about, that is the one where Warbasse needs to be at his best. Kuss up to 17th so maybe he can make up more ground.

Really happy to see Vasyliv still doing excellent!! Top 3 is a great position to be and less then a minute back with the super decisive mountain stage to go! Good to see Ablenado doing well too considering last season!

Abelenado the surprise here for me with how well he’s doing. If he can keep this kind of form up for the entire season, he and Alarcon are going to be a forge to be reckoned with. Kind of disappointed with Iturria so far, thought he would have been doing a lot better but still tomorrow to come.

Vasyliv is still in an excellent position with the huge mountain finish left and a time trial! Talansky is obviously the strongest overall but it will be an excellent finish to the race if something happens in terms of daily form or Talansky cracking. Hopefully Vasyliv can keep this form going for 2 more stages!

I admit that I didn't see him doing as well as he does - and I also admit that I don't like him due to his lack of punch - but that's where we are. I guess his Res/Rec advantage over the others paid off big time today.
It's still a shame that McCormick just couldn't turn their team strength into a sizeable time gain, but I guess Warbasse just didn't have the legs so far.
What surprises me as well is that Caja are dominating the team standings, despite Alarcon having a huge stinker today - while I did have some doubts about his overall skillset, I definitely didn't see him down to 20th in the GC. Looks like a great team setup here, that could be a lot of fun for their manager all season long!

Decent day out from Kipkemboi, shame he joined the KoM fight so late and would need an incredible ride to win the MTF tomorrow to try and fight for higher places

Oh so close for Hindley and his new team! Death, taxes and another random Sauber climber winning a stage. Nothing new
Congrats on the lead so far Ignacio, crazy first stage race so far for a new team. Good to see Vasilyiv and Schultz doing so well for BNZ, an awesome combo!

Thanks red for the reports, as much as the results have frustrated me their presentation has remained enjoyable.
Alexander Krieger entered the race as the favourite for the sprints - he ended up 9th best across four stages.
Michael Schlegel entered the race as the favourite for the overall. He's raced like he's an outsider at best. Attacking early on the first hilly stage, when he was easily capable of outsprinting most of his competitors on the uphill, then finishing 18th (!) on what should have been his best stage.
The MTT *might* be capable of being put down to TT randomness, but a 2 minute loss is still massive.
On our first mountainous road stage, Schlegel again goes for the early attack. I understand the temptation given his massive GC deficit, but really? If he was riding at full strength I would've expected him to ride tempo with the favourites before fighting for the stage win as - again - he ought to be the #1 pick for an uphill sprint. Instead we lost another 1½ minutes.
Nearly five minutes down by this point, you'd think that Schlegel might take the opportunity to search for something in the breakaway. Instead, he is dropped early on and finishes four minutes down...
All this with the duo of Tobias Halland Johannessen and Georg Zimmermann. They might not be the best domestique duo, but given the latter has better stats then half the favourites list I had expected better. Zimmermann ought to be dominating the white jersey standings. Instead he is 7th, two minutes behind THJ - a clearly inferior rider.
If it's true that the newer PCMs allow us to eliminate daily form then I'm all for it. Some randomness is to be expected, but this? Clearly Schlegel wasn't trained sufficiently to seperate him from the mass of good climbers.

Jai definitely exceeded my expectations. I have to say in general my team performed a bit better than I hoped. Though it wasnt a win I am very happy about the great performance and P2. Also Bauhaus overall does a really good job.
Thanks for the reports and i look forward to see what happens next.

Like all Irish sports teams we are relieved when we are no longer leading , the mentality doesn't suit us.
Caja really set to be a challenge in these Stage Races I can tell
Still very happy with Talanksy so far. Looking at those behind them it will be tough to hold on to a top 3 but not impossible. Good to see Mannion hopefully beef up the points haul too.
Looking forward to the final 2 stages and thanks for the reports so far.

Well, I don't know what to do with these last stages.
TT wasn't that bad, 7th was probably a disappointment, but despite the bad result, stage 8 had our three top riders going up in the GC.
I'm not quite sure what the PCM strategy is, with Armirail going in the breaks and with Rochas, but ultimatly I guess it's bad planning from my side, with not enough support for Itturia. Still, I'd be happy with the GC as it stands, with some depth points and the early Guerao good results.
Thanks a lot for the reports, for long race, and congrats to the winners ! |

Woo! Four riders getting into the break on one of the toughest stages so far. Really helps boost our breakaway average after a couple of quiet days.
When you don't carry any expectations this game is significantly more fun
